  1. Matt Pace is an excellent coach, what he said is dead on. Lumberton had three boys playing with the Flu: one starter #1, the sixth man #4, and a freshman that was moved up for depth. But plain and simple Silsbee came to play and beat them.
  2. Congratulations Coach Rideaux!!! You made a big impact in Lumberton last year and this year you led your own team to a playoff spot. I hope they recognize you with coach of the year.
  3. I’ve posted when they win too, look at the Bridge City Lumberton Game at Bridge City. There was nothing to post here. Lumberton blew them out, what other info is there. A game like this needs no info or description. Thanks for think of me though lol. BTW...I won’t be doing a breakdown of the Lumberton - Silsbee game tonight for the same reasons. Blow outs are Blow outs no comments needed.
  4. No both those seniors played, one started and the other came off the bench
  5. My apologizes, you are correct. In high school head coaches are restricted from using the coaching box following any technical. In college coaching box limitation are based on the type of technical. It now makes sense why the Lumberton AD came over by the bench to remind the coach to stay seated once. Personally I think the dunk technical is outdated and don’t like the fact he lost the box because of it.
  6. No, He was given the warning in game for coming to far out onto the floor. Coach only has to sit if he or the bench is given a warning or a tech. Not when a player receives one on the floor.
  7. That makes the most sense, I didn’t think that was an ejection technical. I like to see a coach enforcing rules. The refs were tech happy that night. Lumberton Coach got a warning and had to sit most of the game, the BC coach got a tech, one BC player got a tech, and including the dunker 3 Lumberton boys got techs.
  8. Did the kid who dunked get ejected too? He went to the locker room after the tech, then reappeared later sitting behind the team wearing street clothes?
  9. Thats about right. The shooter off the bench was the kid from Evadale they lost him and the point guard was the kid from HJ starter they lost him. The senior post that started and the post off the bench were lost. Plus a senior bench player that rarely played. #4 who was the shooter off the bench is now a starter/6th man. So like said they lost 4 seniors and you are correct they lost another post. But they returned 3 starters, replaced the HJ kid with #4, replaced the starting center with a new senior, replaced their bench center with a freshman, replaced the Evadale boy with Bridgers, and have two seniors on the bench to make up for #4 moving to the starting line up and the 4th senior they lost last year. Overall the 3 returning starters are better this year, especially McClure. #4 is better than than the HJ move in. Bridgers is the leaps and bounds better than anyone they lost. The two new centers are different players than what they lost but they bring the same amount of value to the team. Then the two bench seniors offset #4 to the starting line up and the 4th senior they lost. The team last year was good, Rideaux was influential to their success(this is not meant as a negative shot at Mitchell). But this year’s team is better, yes they only suit up 9. But last year they only played 7 to 8 and suited up 14. This year they only play 7 to 8, the biggest difference is the the talent difference between the 4 primary starters to the bench is greater. But this is because the starters are better than last year’s starters not because the bench isn’t as deep as last year. Again watched every game this year and last, but only my opinion.
  10. I’m assuming this is sarcasm. But seriously coaches care what’s written in some local chat forum enough to troll it?
  11. Did Lumberton really lose a lot from last year? I thought they only lost 4 seniors. One of which rarely played, one played as a 6th/7th man. The other two were starters but were regularly subbed in and out by Rideaux. This year’s group returned 3 starters, plus the Bridger kid returned to the team, he was a starter at the beginning of last year. The the 5th starter is #4 or a center. #4 played a 7th man role last year but yes the starting center is new and the back up center is only a freshman. But the other two other bench kids were on Varsity last year, one of them was a starter at the beginning of this season prior to Koch(4 year varsity player) coming in after football season. Personally I see a better starting five than last year, now no one on the bench is equal to one of the four primary starters but I do see them being as serviceable as last year’s bench. In my opinion I do think the bench could be utilized differently and optimized. But that said my opinion plus a $1.07 will get you a 99 cent burger from McDonald’s.
  12. Isn’t just the case that Lumberton played very well last night. I read comments that the refs were bad, I’ve never watched a game where the refs are perfect. Terrell Hines is one of the best referees in the area. Didn’t see where the coaches did anything extraordinary nor did the coaches do anything wrong. Both teams played hard, as predicted Silsbee won Lumberton gave them a better game than most people expected. I’ve watched a lot of Lumberton basketball, they haven’t been playing well as of late. But last night they had one of if not the best game of their season, they looked like a different team than I’ve seen all year. If anyone wants to point to the reason Lumberton played well, Brock McClure played one of his best games.
  13. I’ve watched them a lot this year they have the ability to go 7 even 8 deep which is basically what they had last year. Their 7th man hasn’t played in the last two games not sure why, he had been playing and contributing prior.
  14. It was a combination of poor shooting and poor shot selection. But yes even as poorly as they played they could have won.
  15. Great game by WOS Players and their coaching staff tonight. They had the boys working hard. WOS ruled the boards, Lumberton struggled mightily rebounding. WOS played quicker, faster, and stronger. WOS biggest weakness is turnovers. At times the Lumberton had glimpses of good play and other times player appeared to just not care. In over time Lumberton was down by 5, and one of their players on the floor was laughing/joking with a WOS player. I sat behind the Lumberton bench tonight(it was a first), I’ve never noticed a team that just doesn’t pay attention to their coaches. On every huddle both players and assistant coaches were laughing/smirking at what I can only assume is at what was being said(gives the appearance of a lack of respect). One kid went into the game for the wrong player twice, they’d talk about plays and the boys would just kinda do whatever when they went back on the floor. Their offensive sets were not crisp, they attempt screens but rarely was contact made with a defender. I’ve never seen a coach have to do so much coaching of basic fundamentals. Mitchell had to tell his team to block out on basically every possession, yet they still didn’t. Lumberton has talent, hence why they kept it close. The one thing that confused me was the lack of substituting. If your players on the floor aren’t doing what they are told, causing you to get beat you’d think they’d try another player. Lumberton only played 6 of their 9 players. Lumberton has a tough road ahead of them if they want to make playoffs, there are definitely issues there that need to be resolved ASAP. In short WOS did an excellent job controlling the boards, their defense forced numerous poor shots attempts by Lumberton. Multiple turnovers by WOS and the raw talent of Lumberton kept the game tight. But in overtime WOS took advantage of Lumberton turnovers and put them away. Best of luck to WOS going forward, for now it looks like a playoff spot is theirs for the taking.
  16. Bridge City looked good in the game. Tough physical defense and hit from deep. They had a excellent game plan that stymied the Lumberton Players. Lumberton players looked out of sorts until the 2 minute mark in the fourth. Bridge City appeared in control for the majority of the game with Lumberton struggling to keep it close. Lumberton final seemed to get things going and won it in the final 2 minutes. The game was interesting because it was close, but for the majority of the game Bridge City simply out worked and out hustled Lumberton. No players stood out for Lumberton, few good plays here and there. #4 and #23 for Bridge City were stand outs for Bridge City. Both these boys hit contested threes throughout the game. In my opinion the Lumberton players seemed to take this one for granted as a result almost lost. Mitchell and his staff did everything except get on the floor play last night. Lumberton’s three coaches worked their tails off trying to get something out of those boys. They suited up 9, played 6. But Mitchell was rotating those six constantly trying to find a combo that would play. He went with a big man(wore #23, thought he’s worn #11 in the past) in the starting five which paid dividends against the bigger BC team and used a guard #4 off the bench. I was somewhat surprised he didn’t go deeper into his bench to look for a spark as he normally goes to his 7th man (#10) who played well the last few games but received a DNP-CD. Overall Lumberton loses this game if not for the coaching staff. Mitchell and his staff kept the playoff hopes alive for Lumberton.
  17. I didn’t realize HF beat BC. So yes i agree HF is in the mix.
  18. That’s a great question, but I can’t make an educated assessment because I haven’t seen WOS or BC play. Obviously you got Silsbee and HJ, and as of right now LCM, Lumberton, WOS, and BC are vying for the last 2 spots. I don’t mean to short change HF, just in my opinion they are a year away, with their style of play in addition to returning key varsity players and that kid on their JV will make the horns a tough team next year.
  19. Lumberton looked solid. First of all Mitchell looked more like well Mitchell. To steal someone’s comment “he was living and dying on every play”. Makes me wonder if he was under the weather during the LCM game. Lumberton suited up 10 players, playing primarily 7. They appeared to mix and match those 7 more frequently than in previous games, including while the game was close. Lumberton started #11 at center. He’s a 6’3”-ish strong kid. He’s raw however is defensive minded quick and a good rebounder. They rotated in #4 and #10. #4 started previously, he’s an offensive first guard, above average shooter and can slash. #10 is around 6’1” G/F, it looked like they played him at C too last night, he’s a long defense first scrappy player that did a lot of the “little things” very good perimeter defender that wasn’t afraid to be physical; blocking out, crashing the boards, rebounding, etc Big Sandy kept it close during the first quarter. Lumberton made a good run in the second quarter they held that lead through the second half. #4 and #10 were on the floor during the offense run. They didn’t do the scoring but #4 did a good job handling the ball, moving the ball around the perimeter from the point, and finding the open guy. #10 set numerous key screens freeing scorers, cleared the lane blocking out, and had some good offensive rebounds & tip outs to keep the offense alive. Both 4 and 10 spaced the floor well opening it up for the scorers, and neither forced unnecessary shots that would reduce shot attempts from Lumberton’s 4 primary scorers. McClure and Bridgers led the Raiders on the stat line front. McClure had good touch on his shots, good shot selection, and rebounding while Bridgers showed a good first step with the ball and coming off screens, he shot well in paint and from the perimeter. Big Sandy is a good squad. They have some very good shooters. They play very fundamentally sound executing a pick & roll and pick & pop offense well. Defensively they are relatively quick and are physical. I thought they play hard. Mitchell and his a assistances coached and manage the game well. Their change in player rotation kept their team fresh. They have a strong core of four players, peppering in the other 3 Players (4, 10, 11) in a rotation format as they did last night should give them the stability going forward. Mitchell in combination with his assistants(both could be head coaches) apparently lit a fire under those boys behinds after coming out flat against LCM.
  20. Lumberton looked like the better team, but the LCM boys showed up to play. LCM out worked, out played, and out coached a good Lumberton team. LCM gave the district a good script to beat Lumberton. Face guard the McClure kid and put pressure on their two guards. I’m not sure whether the Lumberton coaches didn’t try to counter this defense or if the kids just didn’t listen doing as they were told. Lumberton still had a chance to win in the end with less than a minute left and LCM has no fouls give but their guard turned it over while running out the clock. LCM then put the game away. LCM looked solid for a young team, I tip my hat to them for a good win. Jeffcoat did a good job preparing for this game. The LCM scorer, Jesse quietly put up 22 puts, half of those from the line, and a couple key 3-pointers. LCM did a good job mixing and matching players throughout the game. On offense the worked the ball to find mismatches against Lumberton's man defense they seemed to steadily attack the same Lumberton player. LCM’s Smith took the ball to the hoop strong. Their big (#15?) got in some foul trouble early but their bench did well covering for him. Lumberton starters looked sluggish and out of sync. It’s got to be concerning for Lumberton who only has 9 Varsity players, they appear to play 7 players but only substitute based on foul trouble. Hopefully Lumberton can make some adjustments to their rotation, It would be interesting to see McClure and their left hander (#3?) play more guard, then using the bench Center (#11?) and bench G/F (#10?) more in a rotation instead of foul trouble replacements. I have no doubt Mitchell is racking his brain so they don’t have another flat game like last night. It was a fun game to watch best of luck to both these teams as they make pushes for playoff spots.
