1.
I am sure that the Sundevils had everything to do with these kids signing with a college team.  its starting to look as though kids don't even need to play in high school. They should just play select ball and listen to the guys that they are going to lessons to.  I wounder what the high school coaches think about all this credit going to the sundevils and hardly none at all to them.
If you look at the picture, the caption says: "Kirby Bellow (Nederland), Jace Statum (Orangefield), and Jacob Felts (Orangefield)."  Had they all played for the same high school, it would have been labeled as "3 Bulldogs" or "3 Bobcats."  But since they don't play at the same high school, and they play on the same Select team, the picture was entitled "3 Sundevils." Why make it more than it is?
2. Chris Muellner signed with Blinn JC, and Lawrence Kuykendall signed with Texas Southern.
3. I'll tell you how. It is the playoffs and the pitching is good. You better send the runners home when you have the chance. That is better than holding them up only to watch the guy who has struck 162 batters this year strike out number 163. I say good job coach. Way to have the courage to make the tough decisions to try and help your team win. Whoa! Defensive much???
4. I had no idea Silsbee was young. No one EVER talks about that when talking about their team. ;D
5. That does WONDERS for the baseball program, I tell ya. ??? ??? ??? That's probably why we have a hard time getting a baseball team to get past the 2nd round of the playoffs in 4A/5A schools in our area. I know that statement will make all of the football fans go crazy, but it's the truth. How many kids in our area (at the bigger schools) spend their spring-summer getting ready for football, only to find that they have no chance of making it to the next level...yet if they worked on baseball, they could get into college?
6. Wow! HC is supposed to be a powerhouse this season. Big win for the Bulldogs, and rookie Brett Brown. Congratulations!
7. Thank you for your thread, Admin. I am a coach, and I appreciate what you said....not an appreciation of thanks, but just as an acknowledgement. IMO, things have really gotten out of hand as far as parents playing a bigger role in their kids' athletics, and it's good to see that other people have noticed.
8. How do you get a ground out sac? Just because a run scores does not make it a sacrifice. Do I detect a "stat rat" in our midst? ??? ;D
9. Select ball vs. League ball is such a tired argument, yet it takes up tons of space on sites like this. Saying that what we're doing right now isn't working because our HS teams aren't winning the state title is a little bit unfair, in my opinion. I don't really think that is a reflection of league ball vs. select ball, either. It could be any number of reasons, none of the least bit being that kids are just getting better everywhere. WestEnd1 made a great point when he said that after the age of 14 or so, the athlete just sorta takes over. I agree with that, but I'll also say that when I kid is a 15 year old freshman, and he's only played "open bases" for 2 seasons, he's not quite as well-versed as a kid who has done it since the age of 10 or so. As with everything else, you get out of it what you put into it. Depending upon the organization you play with, or the coaching staff your son plays for, or the surrounding talent on your ballclub, your experience will vary. If you want to get better, and if you are willing to put in the time, I expect you will improve at a faster rate than those who do not.
10. Good luck in the playoffs and MAYBE you can get the same umpires as tonight....Got it? Sounds like a whiiiinnnner to me. Nope just calling it like I seen it tonight....So how much did it cost yall? Critter....seriously.... If you listen to ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd, he has a great saying. He says, "Say it aloud before you do it. If it sounds stupid when you say it, it probably isn't a great idea to do it." Maybe you should have done that before you started typing. Poor thing.
11. Who is it that's hurt? I hope he's okay!
12. Well whomever is responsible for that kid going to therapy needs to be scolded. However, I think those kids are only 14, not 14-16. There's no 16U baseball in the Spring. But maybe I'm wrong...it sounds like you're pretty close to the situation, so you must have some inside knowledge. Please keep us in the loop, and thanks. That being said, where would you suggest that these 8th graders play baseball in the springtime?
13. Please elaborate, Scrap. I'm curious to hear at least some of your wealth of knowledge that shows how a 14U team winning a "meaningless tourney" means they "risked their young arms." Is there a new league that allows you to play/compete/win withOUT having someone pitch? Please, do share, because I'm very interested! ??? :-\
14. Coaching is not about luck, or about getting good/bad breaks. Coaching is about preparation. Most coaches will tell you that the easiest part of coaching is during the games on Tuesday and Friday nights. If you haven't prepared your kids for the situations that they may face, then you are not sure how they will respond. However, if you've prepared them the way that you should, it unfolds almost the way that you imagined it. That's why the better teams always try and play "up" during the pre-district season. That way, you can deal with getting outmanned by better talent early on, and learning to win anyway as the season rolls on. Errors, bad calls, postponed games, etc.....those things don't work against a coach and make him good or bad at his job. The truest measure of how good a coach is happens when his ex-players who don't go on to play at the next level still show up at his games and support him. That's when you know you're a good coach. Will all of that in mind, now we know why this forum doesn't allow people to jump in and bash coaches. Everyone likes to blame the coach when they lose, then they give him all of the credit when they win. It's kinda like playing quarterback - too much blame, AND too much credit. A great coach doesn't want credit, he wants improvement and accountability from his kids.
15. 1) There's probably more to it than you say. 2) I'm sure they were warned more than once to not be there.
16. I'll take your word for it, but I'd still have to see it to believe it, Coop.
17. ""If week to week, then HF would have shown ahead of Jasper the week they won. Looks to me it has been a 4A then 3A ranking. Yes, I can see there is the token 5A school and that LCM is falling."" -------------------------------------------------------------------- HF is not very good. They do not belong on a Top 10 area list.
18. DD was dominant. He just hid the ball so well, and kept challenging guys, and they had no shot. It was fun to watch. It would have been a lot worse, had Shane Waddell not come in and shut down the Panthers' bats for the final 3 innings. He kept the Bears in it, and they almost made it back. Great game
19. Stefan Leger from LCM is as good as you'll find behind the plate in SE Texas. He gets overlooked in that monster offensive lineup they've got. Jude Vidrine has been hot practically all season for Nederland, and Connor McDonald seems to score at least twice every game that Kelly plays.
20. What MCsports didn't mention was a large amount of the time those kids are not only Babe-Ruth all-stars, but are playing in the BR World Series against talent from all over the nation. A big honor. Yes your right it is a very big honor to play against some of the top talent in america and some future pros. The team that beat the 16 year old all stars this year could beat png hands down they were an amazing team and not only that but we have one of the top Sr Babe Ruths in the country expescially in the 16 year old divison they have been in the finals of the world series two years in a row and i think a couple other years before that they also won it in 2002 so dont dog the babe ruth leauge you wouldnt like to read this as a player and see somebody say that your hardwork and achivements mean nothing because the allstar teams are selected before the season even beagin which they are not so get your facts straight and think about others swingit and trust me those players do read this site Man that's a long sentence. Why is everyone so defensive when someone from the outside questions how things work over there?
