  1. I think you and every other Jasper fan agrees.... Just not sure we will see it. We know we can run, but can we drop back and throw the ball downfield if someone puts 9 or 10 guys in the box??? Jasper has all the tools this year to have a potent passing game to COMPLIMENT their awesome running attack. a 6'5" All-State pitcher at QB, tall fast receivers with very good hands, a young O-Line that is coming into their own and blocking very well, and a half dozen running backs that are tough blockers and have good hands as well.....They just don't seam to have any desire to really build the passing game. Passing only when you need to or HAVE TO is a bad recipe for big time success. I am afraid that if we don't work hard at developing a passing game we will see an early exit from the playoffs .... losing again to a team that we have superior athletes in comparison to. With all of that being said, on the bright side, we are averaging 9 pass attempts per game this season compared to 7.6 per game last year.... moving in the right direction! lol Just once.... I would love to see us after a big turnover or even on a second down and short..... go for the kill shot! Turn the big QB loose and throw it deep down the field!
  2. I stand corrected! lol Safe travels to all the LCM fans! See you guys Friday night
  3. No way they move it.... take on all the extra expense to carry down the team, band, pep squad, cheerleaders, etc. and lose the gate receipts and concessions just to get thrashed. Nope
  4. Jasper continues to improve... unfortunately, the quality of their opponents does not. As long as Jasper doesn't get complacent, they roll again. It would be nice for the starters to get more than a half of football in Friday night, but it looks unlikely. Jasper 55 LCM 14
  5. Just wondering why they have WOS at 2-0? I think Nederland would disagree with that record????
  6. Jasper has run 5 offensive plays. 4 touchdowns. Montavien Hunt has 150+ yards and 3 TDS on 3 carries.
  7. Jasper looks to build on a solid first game against Lumberton. The offensive line continues to show improvement and the defense played solid against the pass and the run. Offensively, they were able to get room for their speedy running backs to make plays and they controlled the box with a short, but efficient passing attack. Look for Jasper to keep building and improving this week. Jasper rolls 35-7
  8. Good start for Jasper! Controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Had a few turnovers but that’s to be expected in the first game. Defense played great. Swarmed to th ball and defended the pass very well. Offensively the line blocked well and they mixed in enough of a passing attack to keep the defense on their heals and allow the running backs to find room to run. Lots of good things to build on! Jasper could be a really good football team as the season progresses.
  9. We got a stable full of tough as nails running backs.... and they can all run like the wind! Going to be a fun opening night and a tough, hard fought game, no doubt!
  10. Hate to hear that... Hope the kid is OK
  11. I just don't see Lumberton being able to keep up with the speed that Jasper will have on the field....
  12. If Jasper's O Line can get a push like they did in the Nacogdoches scrimmage and make holes for those running backs,Jasper will pile up some points. If Jasper will throw the ball downfield some, it will make that job much easier. They have the QB and receivers to do it. It's very difficult to block 9 guys in the box every play. Jasper's defense must stop the big plays downfield. Lumberton will throw the ball around and Jasper must not give up deep passes down the field and tackle well. And I agree.... Jasper will improve vastly as the season goes on. They are very talented, but young group of players. Jasper 33 - Lumberton 24
  13. Jasper looked much better this week! Offensive line had a good push and made a few holes for our speedy running backs. Would still like to see them throw the ball downfield some to loosen up the defense but hopefully that will come as season goes along. Defense played well missing some starters but needs to work on defending the spread offense. They gave up way too many big plays. Overall a promising scrimmage against a solid 5A opponent.
  14. Jasper has been underestimated all season. This is a Jasper team with a 30-5 record with those 5 loses coming to Sam Houston (2nd Ranked 5A team in LA), Acadiana (3rd ranked 5A team in LA), Kelly (TAPPS State Runner Up), Central Heights (Top Ranked 3A Team in TX), and Hudson (District rival, 14 inning game). They played a very TOUGH schedule and beat quality team after quality team, yet never received the recognition they deserved. Being the under dog is nothing new to these kids and they thrive in that role. They have a team full of hard ball players, great coaches, and they all have grit in their teeth! Look at their stats: .310 team batting average, 15 HRs, 262 Runs, THREE Pitchers with an ERA below 1.7 with a combined 27-2 record. These kids will show up to play and it's gonna be one hell of a series!
  15. Crews at Jasper were putting extra bleachers down the foul lines yesterday evening..... better get there early and get your popcorn ready!!!
  16. HJ and Jasper played a controlled scrimmage. Never played each other this year. Tarkington is in the second round because they played Houston Wheatley in the first round.
  17. Jasper played Huffman twice. Pretty solid pitching and 4-5 solid offensive players. I think LCM has the bats to win the series though.
  18. Womack went the distance on 75 pitches and only allowed 3 hits last night (all ground balls that found a hole) with zero walks. Jasper has 3 pitchers with ERA below 1.85 with a combined record of 21-2....pitching will continue to be solid Jasper bats wake up tonight. Bulldogs roll!
  19. Another Jasper - West End Classic!!! Jasper wins 5-4 thanks to two solo shots in the top of the 6th inning BOTH teams played great baseball!
  20. 10U - WELL and Jasper play Thursday night in Jasper in a quarter final match up.  Winner of that game will play Buna/Kirbyville Winner in the semi-finals...
  21. We are the Defending Champs...that just puts a bulls-eye on us though... I know everyone is gonna "load up" for this year... West End will be tough. Silsbee gets better every year. Lumberton and Buna both have several very talented players.... We will see how it all shakes out?
  22. Same old group of boys since T-ball ... they are gonna play hard! We know everyon is gunning for us this year!  Should be a fun tournament!
