  1. In tournaments where there is no JV teams to play, I have been told that Coach Faircloth will allow the younger boys to go with the varsity to get reps. I was at the "Butch" last Thursday when PNG played Westbrook and HF. Walker QB'ed every play of both games. Their JV was playing over at Westbrook. I was told that Faircloth brought the younger players to Lufkin and several of them alternated in and out every series because there was no JV tournament. I believe the starters have been established.
  2. I went over to PNG last week to watch the WB/PNG 7 on 7 game. If what I saw from the Indians on offense and defense is any indication of what their season may look like, PNG will be hard to beat. They made WB look silly.  PNG offense looked like they could score at will and defense has 3 INT's for TD's. Very impressive. I say at least 8-2.
  3. 12 gage, you should give some serious thought before you choose to come on to this site and libel and slander people. Sounds to me like you may have some bitterness because YOUR program can't keep it's athletes. What are you doing to change that? Probably nothing. You should delete your post and apologize for your comment.
  4. Last night my beloved Bruins fell 8-6 to a good looking PNG team. We saw three outstanding freshmen battle it out. Shane Selman and Devon Roedahl from West Brook were outstanding. Selman played center and pitched. Did a great job and looked very good at the plate with 2 base hits. Roedahl played first, pitched and caught. This kid has as good of an arm as any catcher in the district. Ky Walker from PNG was also outstanding. He played shortstop, left field and pitched. The kid has a curveball from he#*! He hit the ball hard all 4 trips to the plate and had 2 RBI's. Congratulations to these young men on a great performance.
  5. You make some very good points Rake but I think most people here were just responding to the question that opened this thread. It asked if anybody had any upcoming freshman that "may" make the varsity squad or significantly contribute to their respective team. Whether they actually make it and whether that is a good or bad thing is an entirely different question. I was really interested in who are the new, incoming ball players considered to be the best at their school. Sometimes these threads lose focus.
  6. It is my understanding that most of the kids Hammerhead is talking about make straight "A's" and are in honors classes. Maybe HH should research a little more before allowing frustration to speak with made-up facts.
  7. We (Westbrook) have an outstanding freshman in Shane Selman. Kid is a good pitcher/outfielder and a great stick. We play PNG next week. Maybe we will see these two freshman battle each other. I'm looking forward to it.
  8. A friend of mine in Groves told me that Walker is now the backup shortstop to Daniel Sparrow (Sr.). Walker can play anywhere except catcher and will see pitching time this year. Lane is a catcher and is NOT on varsity. Lane will be a JV guy due to the depth that PNG has.
  9. I don't think Walker "has" to play. PNG is stacked from what I hear. This kid is just good. Can play every position and is a jam-up pitcher. Probably could make just about anybody's varsity squad.
  10. Also have to add Ford Proctor and John Darling (Kelly) and Grayson Padgett from HJ. All are excellent ball players and have been playing at the highest level in select for several years.
  11. Shane Selman at Westbrook and Ky Walker at PNG.
  12. A couple of coaches in Beaumont said the QB is unbelievable passing and running the ball. They also said that the two rb's were fantastic as well. Also said something about a really good receiver. Looks like the indians got it going on.
  13. I thought PNG had some really good freshman coming up. A QB and two RB's that will probably make some noise this year.
  14. I don't think HF will ever support any coach that goes in there and does what's necessary to win. They have a history of firing any coach that tries. I think the current AD/head football coach applied for two jobs (East Chambers and Galveston Ball) before he finished his first year. Unitl that community changes, the program will not. Not being negative, just truthful. They did not support Phil Danahur, Les Koenig, Claude Tarver, Paul Walker or Walt Mangin. Support your coaches and give them time to build.
  15. Thanks. I think I used poor wording. They said "through 9 games". They said that this kid was passed in game #10 and finished the season tied for the districts #2 tackler. My bad.
  16. Amen Dove. What do you do about a kid who is willing to do the hard work but his buddies aren't? As far as the coaching situation goes, They don't come better than Keith Nield. Totally different coaching style from Decello. Keith will have to overcome the loss of several really good athletes if he stays.
  17. This coach may or may not be gone. At least he was developing some wins in the HF program. This is very important considering the amount of talent that has left HF over the last two years. 1. Colton Kimler-Nederland 2. Bryan Sturgess-Katy 3. Emmett Worsham-Austin (westlake or Travis?) 4. Cameron Williams-Vidor 5. Ky Walker-PNG 6. Brandon Shielder-Shelbyville 7. Brant Halfin-PNG 8. Jordan Hunter-Ozen 9. Jarred Hunter-Ozen These are all multi-sport athletes and I think that all are basketball players. Will take good coaching to overcome this kind of loss.
  18. I am also curious on the selection process. I spoke with several HJ players this past weekend. They said that several of the boys chosen never played, or played very little, the positions in which they made all-district. They also said that one of their players led the district in total tackles for 9 weeks but yet was never mentioned. If true, how does this work?
