  4. Per Chron former Coog Darius Brannon has signed a contract to play basketball in Uruguay next season. Brannon played in Mexico last year and said he had a good time. Jahmar Thorpe is expected to play in Germany again, and Brian Latham may get a spot in the NBDL.
  5. Yes he did..."Mean" Mark they called him. He left his wife for Michelle McCool...Hence the reason why he had "SARA" tatoo removed from his throat.
  6. This is Houston's fault...They took a chance on signing him...Yes he has talent but he's a nut job. Problem is Cooper is a good manager but 0 pitching. It is time for a fire sale. Keep Puma and Tejada. Carlos Lee is in a major slump but 'Stros have too much $ in him to dump him. I'd package Pence, Roy-o (Yes, I said it) and get a ton of talent like Tampa Bay did...
  7. Don't sweat it...Remember, ECW is about to move to the Raw taping...They will tape ECW after Raw is finished on Mondays so you will see Raw guys on ECW to help ratings.
  8. First Wrestlemania now this! By SAM KHAN JR. Houston Chronicle The University Interscholastic League announced Wednesday that the home of the Texans, Reliant Stadium, has been selected as the site for the Class 5A Division I and Division II state championship games, which will be played on Dec. 20. This is the third year that the UIL has used a predetermined site for the 5A state title games. In 2006 and 2007, the San Antonio Alamodome was the site of the title games. "We're excited about Reliant Stadium hosting the 5A football finals this season," UIL athletic director Charles Breithaupt said. "We will work closely with Reliant Park in creating a first-class championship experience for the schools, fans and students involved in the games." The Division II championship game will be held at 2 p.m., followed by the Division I final at 7. The UIL chose to move away from a two-year commitment to one site as it did with the Alamodome. Among the reasons for that decision was the desire to locate the games around the state. "It was (our legislative council's) intention to rotate the games around the state so that every area of the state could experience the championship game," UIL spokesperson Kim Rogers said. "Once that was determined, we had discussions with Texas Stadium, Reliant Stadium and the Alamodome and determined that Reliant would host it this year." Rogers said that the UIL will likely wait and see how the 2008 games go before deciding on a 2009 site. The Dallas Cowboys are expected to move into their new stadium in Arlington that year. "I'm excited to see it played in Houston," Katy coach Gary Joseph said. "It's a neat deal. It hasn't been here in awhile. Having the coaches (from around the state) back here will be great." There is some concern as to whether the grass at Reliant will hold up well enough for two games. The Alamodome and Texas Stadium have artificial surfaces. "That was my biggest concern," Joseph said. "The footing is the biggest thing. The field is getting torn up. One year we played in the regional semifinals against Brazoswood in the second game of a doubleheader and the field was pretty slippery." Reliant has hosted several high school football doubleheaders in the last two seasons. "That was discussed," Rogers said. "We heard feedback from coaches around the state on grass versus artificial surfaces. We've been assured by Reliant that the field willl be in great condition for both games." Katy was the Class 5A Division II state champion last year, beating Pflugerville 28-7. Euless Trinity defeated Converse Judson 13-10 in the 5A Division I title game. "We're thrilled to have the Texas State Football Championships back in Houston and at Reliant Stadium for the first time ever," said Shea Guinn, President, SMG-Reliant Park. "Houston is the heart of Texas Football Country and we're proud to welcome the state's best football players to Reliant Stadium."

  18. www.theexaminer.com Roccaforte set to announce additions to coaching staff Non-conference schedule could be toughest to date By Chad Cooper, Sports Editor Lamar men’s head basketball coach Steve Roccaforte has made some big moves this offseason and will continue to bolster and add to his staff. Roc is also close to announcing his 2008-09 schedule. After losing assistant coaches Brandon Aldrich (private business) and Don “Bubba†Skelton, who returned to the Junior College ranks to coach at Jones County JC in Ellisville, Miss., Roccaforte named Tic Price to one of two open positions last week. Price has 28 years of coaching experience in the college ranks including 10 years as a head coach at Memphis, New Orleans and McNeese State. Now, Roc is set to name Silvey Dominguez as another assistant, which would complete his coaching staff joining Price and Kermit Holmes. Dominguez will come to Beaumont from the University of New Mexico where he severed as the Director of Basketball Operations under head coach Steve Alford for one year. Dominguez, a graduate of the University of New Mexico in 1977, was an assistant at Wyoming for four seasons before returning to his alma mater. He was also an assistant coach at Utah with coach Rick Majerus, Colorado State, Air Force, UTEP and USC. Dominguez was a part of the Trojan staff when they advanced to the Elite Eight in 2001. USC also went to the NCAA Tournament in 1997 and the NIT in 1999 with Dominguez on board. Coach Roccaforte will name a new Director of Basketball Operations and sources close to the men’s basketball team confirm it will be Dr. Mark Honea, the former girl’s basketball coach at Port Arthur Thomas Jefferson. The 2008-09 non-conference schedule could also be the toughest to date. According to Roccaforte, the Cardinals will play road games at Memphis, Kentucky, Louisville and Rice and have a home tilt in Beaumont at the Montagne Center with Texas Tech. The program has also been informed that ESPNU will, more than likely, come to Beaumont and televise a Southland Conference home game.
