Tramain was the difference in this one plain and simple.Newtons big kid did a good job early and had a big defensive game. EC played a tough zone and denied the inside pass in the second half and Newton did not shoot the long ball well at all.Congrats EC on a very well played game.Thomas had to have at least 30.Good luck next weekend in Tyler.

My bad, I did mean Trevino,saw where he was in double figures friday but was hurt.These 3 will be the keys for EC if they want to win.

If Big Sandy is completely healthy they are probably a slight favorite.Slocum will try and control the tempo and they will hit the shots when they get them.I saw both teams and I'll say BS by 6.Slocum played with a very athletic Woodville club and beat them in OT,and Woodville should have been a playoff club in 23aa.I think they beat BS but I'm not sure about that. I have seen them both play this year. EC three times and Newton twice and the game will be close.EC has two things in there corner,Tramain Thomas and tradition. Newton will have the more athletic club overall and I would give there big guy the edge.I really like the McDonald kid but I don't think he has recovered completely from his shoulder injury.In the three games I saw him play he got several outside looks but didn't hit the shots.I think they will have to slide him inside to work Newtons big guy or they could get in trouble on the boards.I think the game will be decided by single digits and will come down to Raymond,Carrington or Trevino stepping up to help Thomas against the press and also scoring,if they do EC wins by a few if not Newton will win it.

I gotta agree with Bleed Orange, so far they have 5 from Silsbee,5 from O-field and 2 from BC. No one has posted from HJ yet and they have several that are very deserving.Throw in Kirbyville, Jasper and HF and you are gonna have a pretty good sized list.There are some very good players in this district but not every player on every team is an all district caliber player.Using these guidelines you could make an argument for 6 or 7 kids off the HJ club.

I'll be yelling for EC in this one but there will be some mismatch problems for the Bucs.The best player on the floor will be Tramain but don't think this is the same ole Eagle football club playing basketball.They could very easily have the next 3 or 4 best players on the floor Tuesday.They have some very quick guards and a real good big guy in the middle.If Thomas gets some help EC wins by 3 ,if not Newton by 8.

Great year for a terrific group of young ladies.#20 for Fairfield was the real deal tonight,she was cold the 1st quarter but from midway in the second she was unstoppable.At one point against a box and 1 she penetrated and hit a 15 ft jumper with 4 defenders on her,not much you can do about that.The Lady Hawks will miss Bernsen and Breeden next year but the cupboard is far from bare in Sour Lake.Congrats on a super season and thanks for letting the Tyler County Crew come along for the ride.

No details but Warren won 6-4.

I didn't say NW wasn't fast CATMAN, I said Newton can get up and down the floor very fast.I've seen just about every club in SETEXAS this season and the eagles are gonna surprise some folks if anyone overlooks them.They press pretty well and have a solid big guy in the middle.They make up for some shooting defeciencies with there defense.

I wasn't bad mouthing Hardin just making an observation.I don't know anything about Woden but I do know the Hornets won't see anyone like Leggett in the 2-a playoffs.I will be yelling for Hardin as well as the rest of the 24aa clubs in the playoffs.

Paul Sims and Matt Andrews both had great years for Warren. Sims averaged 19 and Andrews 15 for the Warriors.They were a good outside-inside combo this season.

Good luck to Hornets in the playoffs.Not sure they will get a lot out of this one though.They would probably got a lot more out of a match up with Coldsprings or possibly Brookeland.They may not have been able to schedule someone like that but it would have kept them sharp for the playoffs.

The other side of this is Newton is pretty good also.NW must have been shooting it well because Newton can get it up and down the floor very well.I haven't looked at the playoff bracket yet but Newton has a very good chance at getting to Tyler.This the kind of warm up game that will get you ready.

Matt did a great job this year for the Warriors even though in my opinion he had to play out of position.He played the low post,which allowed him to score but didn't take advantage of his outside shooting.Warren had some problems this season with consistancy but Paul Sims and Matt Andrews both had great years and will be extremely hard to replace in the Warrior line up.Sims averaged 19 points a game and Andrews 15.It was fitting in there last game both hit 25 against a good Kountze club.It's been a pleasure to watch these 2 this year.

Woodville is very good and will matchup good with Kountze.Will be a very good game.

Not sure what to expect out of Warren this year.On the plus side they have a coach this year that really knows the game.They have three kids back this year that didn't play last year that will really help.Ryan Heiselbetz,who was one of the better players in the area going in to high school before being shot in a terrible accident.This young man is a very good pitcher and can hit for power.I'll be yelling for him to make a big comeback.Mike Hooks who can also help on the mound,hits the ball well and can fly on the bases.Brandon Young,can play just about any defensive position and is another kid who is as fast as anyone around on the bases.On the down side it doesn't look like Caleb Swinney(a very good pitcher and in my opinion there best player last year) is going to play nor is Scott Carnley,a very good defensive second baseman and one of the best base hitters in the district.Ther success will depend on how Ryan and Colt Kelly hold up on the mound.They will hit the ball pretty well I believe.

I quess I can officially be called "old school" because I wouldn't care if "Lil Johhny" were as white as rice,when he pulled his jersey off and left my team on the court his season would have been over end of story.I sincerely hope JB succeeds at the next level and returns to PAM to let the kids know it's possible to make mistakes and grow from them.I for one have a hard time with the socioeconomic arguement in this particular case,if the young man could afford to go to Kelly his family can't be destitute.Got to hand it to you Dickie,you certainly know how to creat a topic.I think you and I could actually agree on a few things about the game.I enjoy your post immensely.

Congrats to all the playoff teams. As far as Warren and the rankings,it really doesn't matter.They didn't make the playoffs and that was there goal.They did however split with Hardin and Spurger and beat Jasper so they would probably have been able to hold there own with BS or HD.You would also have to move D-Ville in your final poll,they destroyed WH twice and would have done the same to Sabine Pass.

It will all depend on what kind of post presence Woden has.Hardin brings Marsh up on the top of the zone and makes it pretty easy to score down low.The key for Woden however will be to defend Marsh on the block,not sure if they have anyone can do that,he is pretty solid around the bucket.Good close game in this one,I'll pick Hardin by 4.Good luck Hornets.

The title of this thread is extremely misleading.I told ya back during the summer HJ had more guards than Buckingham Palace and thats still the case.While Trey and Jarvis are the headliners this teams destiny will be determined by players like Fontenot,Weldon and Payne just to name a few.It's very hard to keep a high school team focused and playing at a consistant level all year but Todd and his staff do it as well as anyone.To answer the question on the title of this thread,YES, but it will take a total team effort.Good luck to the Hawks in this years journey.
