Last night, my son reminded me about his first day of school as a freshman. He was alot smaller back then and one of the first people he met that morning was Matt, who said to him, "If anyone gives you a hard time here at the high school just let me know and I'll take care of it, I got your back." As a dad, I was so appreciative and love this kid that I didn't personally know.

For all Pirate fans, how about everyone wearing all black to the upcoming game to show remembrance for our departed player? I believe an all blackout in the stands could help show his family, friends, and players they are not alone as they go through this. What do y'all think?

Quirante! Apparently at the end of the Ozen game Coach Matthews was planning on a field goal attempt when Quirante stepped up and said, "No, I got this." At least that's what I recall reading in the paper. If that's true, it indicates the influence and value he has....as a junior in high school.

With SPEED.... ;) Exciting game though, Ozen has a great qb and running back. But, I loved watching Quirante pass, tackle, tuck it and run, almost intercept... Great game #23 and all the Pirates.

Way to go Pirates. I have to also congratulate Lumberton for the hard fought game. Lots of class and sportsmanship was shown tonight on both sides. I especially appreciated the tribute to PFC David Drake.

Good coach/AD who really cares about the kids. Always approachable and friendly.
