1. I think there are many lessons to be learned here.  First, you have you have to look at the situation from both sides.  If mg's post is correct, then ndndad should have had plenty of opportunities to talk to the coaching staff about the attitude issues and address them with his son before airing the dirty laundry on a message board.  For the sake of argument (which in this case I don't see it)  if the coaching staff actually singled out the player for some reason and unfairly took him off of the offense, then the lesson there is that life is not fair.  Too many times in all sports we as parents and our kids as players have to deal with the politics of the leagues we pay to join.  It's a fact of life.  All we can do is try to handle those situations with grace and dignity so we can be the absolute best examples for our children.  ndndad,  I'm not saying you are wrong in this situation, because I'm not a part of this situation, but it does seem pretty clear to me that more communication between you and the coaches and between you and your son could have made this situation alot better alot sooner. I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank the coaching staff of PeeWee PNG G and all the other coaches out there that take the time to make all the boys playing in STJFL better football players and better young men.  As the father of a 1st year 8yr old I've been very impressed with the way they have balanced the time it takes to teach a player the basics while also coaching up kids that have been playing for years.  They have done a tremendous job with our group of boys and win or lose my son and I have been blessed to be a part of this team.
I don't think anyone's said that Vidor thinks everyone is their rival or that a team should overlook Vidor, especially not this year. I think all that's been said is that Vidor's so-called "rivalry" isn't really a rivalry. It's just Vidor hating Nederland more than the other teams on its schedule while Nederland looks at Vidor the same way as five its other district opponents.
To most people "hating" a team makes them your rival.
To most people, the other team hating you back makes them your rival.
Not really. Serena and Venus Williams love each other off the tennis court. But on the court they are fierce rivals.
We're not talking about tennis and siblings playing each other individually, we're talking about football and teams. Different situations.
It doesn't matter what the situation is. The definition of rivals are the same no matter what sport.
A rivalry implies mutual feelings between the involved parties. With siblings competing in an individual sport, that's much easier to establish and stems from their common backgrounds and circumstances. That's much harder to establish for football teams and schools in general. Nederland does not view Vidor in the same respect that Vidor views Nederland. Therefore, no rivalry exists.
This is just a continuing circle Bamakid. Your definition of rivaly's and my definition differ. I think it doesn't take both parties to think there is one for there to be one. If one team looks at another team as there rival then that is a rivalry IMO.
Maybe so.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines rival as "one of two or more striving to reach or obtain something that only one can posses."  and rivalry as "the act of rivaling: the state of being a rival."  That to me is pretty clear that each party is an equal in this endeavor to obtain what the other wants.  So, if a team doesn't see you as a rival you are not equally invested in the outcome.  Therefore, there can be no rivalry.  I gotta side with Bamakid on this one. P.S.  For all you Vidor fans, a dictionary is a big book that explains the meanings of words.  ;D
One of two or more striving to reach or obtain something that only one can posses. Aka two teams looking to get a win in a football game. Sounds like what happens every friday night so if you wanna go by that definition then each and every football team that plays each other can be considered a rivalry.
That is true, but we all know that every sporting event is not considered a rivalry.  So we have to imply that what truly makes a competition a rivalry is trying to obtain those bragging rights.  And if you don't consider a team your rival then you don't care about the bragging rights.
Bragging rights? Nice choice of words. But you gotta think doesn't every team play for bragging rights along with the win? I'm sure if a team beats another team they are gonna brag. That's just the way most teams are.
Personally I don't think so.  But that's just me.  I know when I play in softball or basketball leagues I want to win every game, but there are those games that seem like the wins mean so much more, and the losses are so crushing.  And I think that is essential for both teams to feel that way for it to be a true rivalry.

 6. Well, like I said a few weeks ago, hitting hard doesn't necessarily put points on the scoreboard....so if LUM R wants to say they hit harder they can have that. We will take a defensive shutout and 28 pt win.
 7. I think both teams hit really hard, and I give alot of credit to RED.....They rattled our RB a couple of times.  I do know that the single hardest hit of the game was when PNG G #8 put a block on #9 to spring our QB for a TD.  That was one of the best hits I've ever seen.....
My thoughts exactly Smash! :o
Well, if you look at his response to my post, (his response in the middle of the quote) I think it's obvious he is just stirring the pot.  I don't think any level headed PeeWee football fan can say that LUM W is not a solid team.  We will find out who is the best soon enough!
 10.
You beat average teams at best. Good luck.
Thats pretty funny.  Keep underestimating us. PF/PA png g----281-12 lum w----265-73 opponents above .500 through week 8 png g----4 with combined record of 23-9 (PA,WOS,LUM R,BMT B) lum w----3 with combined record of 18-6 (PNG W,NED B,BMT G) I fail to see how your level of competition has been any higher than ours.  If nothing else (and I think most anyone not from png or lum will agree)  your level of competition has been lower.  I have no problem with someone thinking their team is the best.  I hope we all feel that way about our respective teams.  But at least be intelligent with your arguments.
 11. Just wanted to say congratulations to PNG G and LUM W for outstanding performances today.  I have to admit I was wrong about the LUM W outcome but completely on point about what they needed to do to win.  They controlled the line of scrimmage, contained #23, and tackled #11 when they needed it most.  Valiant effort from the youngsters from BMT G.  They will still make some noise in the playoffs and they will be a force next season.  I was impressed to see the kids from LUM R in person.  #9 is a beast on both sides of the ball, and #8 also played very well.  Those kids hit every bit as hard as everyone has talked about all year.  The Playoffs should be alot of fun.  Good Luck to all teams still in the hunt for the Super Bowl Championship.
 12. I still think BMT G is gonna take this one.  The key to this game will be LUM W's ability to control the line of scrimmage, keep the ball carriers from getting around the edge, and IF they get a hand on one of BMT G's "FAST 3", to wrap up and make the tackle.  If they can do ALL of those things they have a shot to win.
 13.
It was PNG - G by 18 Typo! Red is good but look at what PNG G has done, only allowed 12 pts all year and thats playing PA and WOS! 15. It doesn't matter what kinda contest, we want to win.  Especially if we are going against Nederland.  If they had a competition to see who could throw the most rocks in a trash can from 25 feet away we would be out cheering our team to victory.  We want to be the best. At everything.  But if we can't be the best, we will usually settle for beating Nederland.

So plan B is #23. Fast but small. I hope he can take a pounding. Far as #11, the qb, Its gonna Be a long day for him as well.
They will beat you outside.  Their #9 is good too.  By your own admission, LUM R has two outstanding players #8 and #9.  They beat them up the middle and outside (mostly big plays outside).  I truly wish y'all the best, but in your division, they are the team to beat!  No disrespect to LUM W...they are really awesome. Bring your "A" game LUM W.  Y'all can definitely win, but don't take ANYTHING for granted.  BMT G is the favorite for a reason.
So why play the game? What would you do? Matter of fact, who so we need to stop and how would you stop them?
You play the game for 3 reasons: 1. You owe it to your kids 2. They are on the schedule...duh. 3. Nothing is absolute...LUM W can win, they are just not the favorite. To answer your other question: If it were me coaching Lum White, I would do everything in my power to contain the outside.  Don't worry about punishing them...worry about catching them.  2 good corners is a necessity.  At least 1 if not 2 good LB's is too.  Put your fastest guys that can fundamentally pursue and tackle on the outside...they don't have to be your bruisers, they have to be your speed demons.  Your offense will be able to score on them...y'all have an excellent scheme with lots of misdirection (2 different offenses even).  Any weakness their offense has is compensated by sheer speed.  They will throw the ball some too, but (like every other Pee Wee team) they will run 80% of the time.  I am sure you have seen film on them, but you don't grasp their speed until they have burnt your best kids and are running into the endzone.
That does require alot of Tools. Tools that we may not have. We all know #3 is their Best player on both sides of the ball, and the others are all speed. Speed vs Discipline and Power. I don't think catching them will be a problem. Doing it for all 4 qtrs will be our biggest concern. We know how to win, Do they is the question
If you don't think catching them will be a problem, then you have already lost the ball game.  It is basically the ONLY problem. I think they DO know how to win...they've had a lot of practice at it this year and in FLAG.
Great point, SmashMouth......Oh, and Ocho, their success in FLAG was without #3........
 19. I gotta go with Bmt G.  I think their playmaking ability will be too much for the reigning superbowl champs.  And as for #23, you gotta catch him first to hit him, and I saw him put some licks on Lum R.
 20. IMO, I think it makes most sense to set it up like this: (1) 1 vs (2) 4 (1) 3 vs (2) 2 and (1) 2 vs (2) 3 (1) 4 vs (2) 1 That way if all top seeds win you have: (1) 1 vs (2) 2 and (1) 2 vs (2) 1
 21. Ok, got a question of the playoff brackets.....It's my understanding that the matchups are: (Div 1) 1 vs (Div 2) 4 (1) 2 vs (2) 3 (1) 3 vs (2) 2 (1) 4 vs (2) 1 Now my question concerns the second round.....Is the playoff bracket set up like this: (1) 1 vs (2) 4 (1) 3 vs (2) 2    winners of those games play (1) 2 vs (2) 3 (1) 4 vs (2) 1  winners of those games play or (1) 1 vs (2) 4 (1) 2 vs (2) 3  winners of those games play (1) 3 vs (2) 2 (1) 4 vs (2) 1  winners of those games play Or are second round matchups determined after the first round games are completed?
