  1. What would make you think that I "possibly" have a coaching background? Does what run in the family? coaching?
  2. THAT must be the key to bringing em into Sour Lake!!! The RATIO!!  ;D
  3. Not a Waltrip alum, but during that time I lived in the Greater Houston Area and followed that situation.  ;)  The Falu kid was a great talent, just misguided by some bad people at that time from what I gathered.  He should have just come out in 98 like he was supposed to and his journey would not have been so long. He was also involved in a recruiting scandal when he played at Alabama, and ended up transferring to Vanderbilt. He could have been a pro, IMO, just had too many things happen to him in his school days, I think.
  4. Thus the reason for building the two other Kingwood schools!!  ;D  Kingwood High has a total population of around 4700 students. Kingwood Park around 2200, and Atascocita somewhere near 3000....Last I remember..I could be off by a few, but the fact is, Kingwood High would have been even better had they not built those other 2 schools and left half of the kids at Humble High...240 males? I didnt know it was that few. Thats small for class 3A! Are you guys close to 2A numbers as far as overall attendance goes? Have they ever considered moving down to 2A? You guys have basketball tradition and do great in 3A, but what about that other sports? Do THEY want to move down?
  5. That is the BEST way IMO (little dribblers) to build a program in ANY area. I am not sure how they do it at Houston Yates, but in Kingwood, that is the reason for the success that they have had there. What makes it hard on them is the fact that they have built Kingwood Park and Atascosita High Schools, which are in essence, splitting the kids up.  As far as the inner city programs, such as Yates, I don't think they have such a thing. One major advantage that I see you guys having at Hardin Jefferson is the fact that you get ALL of the kids that you are supposed to get..That makes a big difference.
  6. No, I am not even a native Texan. You are losing me here with the codes! What does (WHY) mean?  ???
  7. Not intending to down your area, but my point was what is actually in Sour Lake that would make a family up and move there from somewhere else. You have answered that question. And so do they usually just happen to have a son that can play ball, too? usually? I am sure Sour Lake is a fine place to live.
  8. @Aggiesarewe....I am not real sure where you are going with your posts...can you clarify? I don't mean to offend by calling you biased.  Just not real sure where you are going with your posts about "happenings" and such. ??? ?????? Maybe I am missing something here.
  9. Well for about the 5th time....Have you seen the thread on here entitled "the rich keeps getting richer"? It talks about the fact that Silsbee is receiving a new transfer..However, I read another thread entitled, "Houston Yates keeps on recr....er receiving transfers" (something like that) that suggests that the Houston school is recruiting kids to go there. I was just poking fun, I dont have a horse in the race, just thought it was pretty funny....and BIASED!  ;D
  10. Huh? I have always been a pretty humble guy. Not sure about any "happenings" in my life, but yeah I guess you can still say that I am a humble guy...I still see there is no response to my earlier question, though, my friend!  Its OK to be a little biased towards your school or city! ;D
  11. Oh, I am in no way claiming to be an expert or anything like that...Just like good message board chatter from time to time..I am harmless! 8)
  12. What? I don't understand. Does this mean you have been accused of being biased before? I am in no way trying to ruffle any feathers, just calling it as I have observed.  Am I right? Its called one thing for you guys and another for the other guys. I'm just saying...
  13. Dont know about that Mr. AggiesAreWe....If you truly knew about the situation in the Houston area, you would not make broad generalizations about how the Yates HS kids are being "recruited" to the school...and the bias is obvious when it comes to your beloved Silsbee and its "transfers"....Mr. stevenash, I was also being sarcastic (extremely) in saying that Sour Lake was a hot spot of any sort....However when you guys get your "transfers", it does cause one to wonder why would anyone "transfer" TO Sour Lake, Texas.....BUT you guys find it impossible for a kid in the Houston area to WANT to attend Houston Yates HS...They REALLY ARE a magnet school for communications, as stated earlier...While I do not agree with all the high school kids transferring, I can't help but notice the obvious bias when it comes to certain schools in this area when it comes to the topic...On one hand its the "rich getting richer" but on the other its recruiting....which one is it? I guess it depends on where you live and who you root for...I guess.
  14. Absolutely....Sour Lake is the new hot spot.... ::)..great night life, terrific economy, great neighborhoods and schools..and ONE STOP LIGHT!!! LOL.... 8)....Avoidance of the question, however, speaks volumes as to the position of the members of this message board when it comes to the issue of kids transferring schools...If it happens at one of your schools in YOUR area (HJ, Silsbee, Kountze etc.) everything is above board and legal...If it happens in an area that we are unfamiliar with (Nederland, Ozen, Houston area schools, etc), it HAD to be some foul play going on...Is my assumption accurate? It certainly APPEARS that it is...Correct me if I am wrong, please... ::)
  15. So, would this "transfer" to Hardin Jefferson be considered the "rich getting richer" or are any of you guys going to accuse this particular program of recruiting players to the "Metropolis" called Sour Lake, Texas?.... ::)....I am just asking.... 8)
  16. What, in your opinion, constitutes "rough"? Poverty stricken? No new development, except for the University? or is it the demographic? I have been over there millions of time and can you believe that, NOTHING has EVER happened to me? Go figure...Its not a "rough" area at all...Its an older, under developed area, that by the way has some MILLION DOLLAR homes located less than 2 miles away from that "rough" area...(MacGregor Area, Medical Center)...The Third Ward of Houston has some fascinating history behind it...which is where Yates HS is located...Do the research.
  17. So, is the University of Houston considered a "rough area" too? It sits DIRECTLY across the street... ::)
  18. It is NOT legal for private schools to recruit for athletic purposes.....They can only recruit students that excel academically. 8)
  19. No..THAT Houston Waltrip team was not "tainted" as you put it, the Puerto Rican player in question, (Antonio Falu) was declared ineligible the FOLLOWING season...Their title in 1998 is still in the books..they had to forfeit all of the pre-season games that Falu played in during the 98-99 season, due to the Houston Chronicle report that found out he was too old to play that season...He was eligible in 97-98, although he was listed as a junior..
  20. Here is MY two cents...The UIL SHOULD tighten the reigns on all this transferring...It is getting quite ridiculous...If a kid MOVES to the area, or there is a divorce, or some other special circumstances, I can see them allowing a transfer, but, it has really gotten out of hand...Summer AAU has RUINED high school basketball...It really has...I remember a time when kids just went to their high schools and played open gym all summer long...it worked then, and I don't understand why that still can't be the case... now it has become a "business", and the kids are not the ones gaining profits from it....They (the AAU contingent) want to yell "exposure", but the truth of the matter is, if they can play, college coaches will know who they are...Its their JOB to know...It would eliminate tons of NCAA violations, if they just eliminated these AAU guys and put the kids in the hands of the high school coaches year around....AAU CAN however still work with the younger kids...I feel that once they hit high school, AAU should be hands off.....Ok...Off my soapbox!  8)
  21. Now let me get this right...when a kid transfers to Silsbee, the thread is titled "the rich keep getting richer"....BUt when a kid transfers to Houston Yates, its "recr...err transfers".....seems a little slanted to me...Don't you think?  And also...for the record, in order to be considered "the rich" in HS basketball, you must be able to boast a state title or two....Just FYI... ;)
