Yates/Washington at Delmar on the 26th might also be a good one to see.
Anybody know what would be the best Houston area game to watch on Thursday, August 26? Preferably 4A, but 5A will work too.
The only Houston area game that I have seen so far which pits 4A's against each other is the LC-M/GC Memorial game in Baytown. Another game, one which may be of particular interest to you is in Pasadena (Spring Woods vs. Pasadena). Also, Clear Springs hosts Dawson that evening.
Here is 4A [Hidden Content]
Interesting. Matt, why would you send BH to 20-4A in this mockup and have Silsbee in 19-4A. I could see Jasper as the would have Livingston to pair up with. But it seems like BH and Silsbee would be switched. BTW, Matt. You are doing a heck of a job on this mock realignment. I had toyed with the idea of doing one, even got as far as putting the ada's in a spreadsheet. Then I said, NO THANK YOU!!! Too much effort for me! -
Select Softball Conflict with School Sports

The discussion is about the conflict of select sports with school sports, and you feel compelled to take cheap shots at coaching staff? How about we all go down and "observe" you doing your job, shout insults at you, and then post on a public forum how WE think YOU should do it?
IQ=??? You cant even figure out who youre insulting, nothing but cheap spit spews from your mouth! I did not take a cheap shot....in fact it had nothing to do with the ability to coach! If you care to do a fact check with me then lets do it! You call ME out, did you find anything I said to be false....would you like police reports and news paper clippings to show the records of the players in question.....would you like to have a Q&A with my daughter and the VB coaches in question....nothing to hide baby....bring it on! In fact I have commplimented the SB coach and the track coach on several occaisons! Exactly who is "my kind" and "you all" exactly....those that stand behind the backstop and support our coach 100%, show up to do field duty when it rains (because the school wont do it) so the girls can play, help build batting cages (because the school wont do it) help our kids (and any other kid) excel (when the football team isnt practicing on the SOFTBALL field) show up for fundraiser......so sure show up....we could use some help....and after all of that, if you find something to critize please lets discuss it! by the way.....Craig Soignet here......I will never hide behind a screen name......or say anything on here I would say not in public, or in front of anyone...come on out and play! And my comments have everything to do with select and HS sports.....the rules are different for girls (since it was a dad of a girl athlete that posted this) and the boys........that has alot to do with the rules they try to enforce to one side and not the other.
Well, perhaps as some schools but not in the one that has brought about this thread. I recently had to change the football preview for Orangefield simply because the AD, who is also the football coach, had the same rules for select baseball as he does for softball and, as a result lost his starting quarterback, who decided to play baseball. You can argue that this is the folly and in same ways I may agree, but I can't agree that it is a completely baseless policy. -

Select Softball Conflict with School Sports
WOSgrad replied to Armchair Quarterback's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Now that I have been called a belittler and dumb, by you, YG2009, it's my turn. You see, the time missed "a couple of practices" as you put it is a little more significant than you'd have us believe. You see Orangefield, and every other high school volleyball team in the State of Texas, can't begin two-a-day practices until August 2nd. Sorry, I didn't dictate that, nor did Mr. Huckabay or Coach Holbrooks, if you have an issue with that you need to take that up with Dr. Odenwald in Austin, I am sure that he would LOVE to hear you views on select vs. high school sports. Back to the schedule, with the Southern Nationals (which is as I now understand a qualifier tournament, rather than the holy grail as you first portrayed it to be) being scheduled as they are, the ladies in question would miss half of the scheduled two a days PLUS the two scheduled scrimmages in Nederland on the 6th and Vidor on the 7th before the season starts on the 10th. So the athletic director of the school district has a policy in place that such absenteeism should prevent that lady from being on the volleyball team. That is unreasonable how? If you are going to try and paint Coach Huckabay as some unyielding ogre, you had better come with better facts than that! I am not, as you alleged, trying to belittle the efforts on these young women. That they are driven enough to practice and go to these tournaments are proof enough to me of their drive. And their attempts to ease the financial burden of their families by "plying their trade" in order to gain valuable college scholarships is beyond admirable. In fact, that they are doing this and dealing with the myopic likes of you qualifies them for sainthood in my eyes! I hope for all of the sacrifice that this process does open the doors that they are hoping for because with everything they put up with on the field and off of it, the do earnestly deserve it. However, in attempting to open those doors, no one can reasonably expect the high school to keep certain doors ajar for them. As loudly as you may shout it, select softball is not the only game in town and to try and paint Coach Huckabay as some sort of devil when he realizes what you wish not to believe is the actual belittling in this matter. And if you have come to this message board to do so, it is you, sir, who are in the wrong place! -
I will start this thread off by saying to all of the those who oppose the success of Kirbyville and their hard work to reach this level. Kirbyville does not have to prove anything to anyone in Setex. The recent success speak for itself. I have no problem in anyone having an opinion about Kirbyville or clean fun comments but tag us as the bad guys because we support our culture of success is consider byass act toward our tradition. I supported WOS, West Brook, Central, and any team I consider Setex throughout the playoffs because I wanted a state tilte back in our area. I went against others who made poor comments about Setex teams in the past to help modify our rich tradition in setex. I will not support any future Setex teams again because of the byass nature against the wildcat squad. I will continue to support the wildcat pride and the pineywood area. I thought of Setex as a primary group (family) but I guess The Pineywoods are the stepchildren of Setex or consider the family when we are the only teams left in the playoffs. I say to all of the remaining wildcats fans; continue to support our great success and have no shame in defending our honor. I will continue to monitor the progress of pineywood area teams here, but will keep my comments factual and clean about other Setex teams for know on. To all Setex fans in order to get respect you have give respect. Once again, thank you WOSgrad for your unbyass comments about the wildcats and your total devotion toward good leadership for people to follow. ;)
And once again, thank you for the kinds words. But let me try to give some insight from the folks. First of all, the people of Kirbyville have every right to be proud of their accomplishments over the past few years. Last year, I had a blast taping the preview spots during playoffs that were played before we threw it to the stadium. Because I can recall a time when Kirbyville and good football team were never used in the same sentence. Now you have a great team with a great coach and especially over the last couple of years that has led to quite a number of achievements. I, as an administrator, am glad that there is excitement in Kirbyville and I am really thrilled that you choose this forum to convey that excitement and hope that y'all continue to do so. However, you should also realize that there are others on here that are equally excited about their teams. That is especially so in this time period before Week 0 when hope springs eternal for all football teams as they all sit with the same record (0-0). So when someone responds to one of the Kirbyville threads, I wouldn't take it as a dis of Kirbyville, but rather someone showing the same excitement you have, just that it is from a standpoint directly opposite of yours so it may just appear harsh to you. Believe me, the Piney Woods are anything but stepchildren here at setxsports. If they would be, no one would respond to those threads.
Thank you for your recent coverage on the wildcats!
Not a problem. They have kind of made it hard to ignore them over the last couple of years, making it to the State Championship game. And even though I understand the move to 3A was a surprise to them, I think we will be talking about them in late November this year as well.

Chester eyeing six-man football chances
Chester should let their kids play regular 11-man football. It is special and the kids have a right to enjoy it. Use the same energy yall are using for joining 6-man, into finding and encouraging kids to play 11-man football. Their is always kids that are not playing, get them out there. Chester should be able to muster up 20 kids to play 11-man football. Then just play the kids both ways like all 1A and 2A teams do. Forget all that traveling to Africa to play 6-man !!
H-D, it is not as quite simple as that. You see, Chester turned in a number of 59! As I understand it, 25 of them are male. I believe that only 15 (and by some accounts as few as 13) indicated an intent to play football this fall. Chester is of the size where it was going to be 6-man or none at all. If they could have fielded an 11 man team, they would have done so...the length of time they waited before opting to play six man tells me that. Now that they have chosen to go that way for the next couple of years, we should embrace it. It is actually fun trying to get up to speed on the nuances of the game. -
Buddy09,WOSgrad and AggiesAreWE There is a qualification process to play at Southern Nationals so not just anyone can play. I will not sit here and let you belittle something that is important to these kids. This just proves the point that all of the select ball coaches and parrents are trying to make on this thread that care about the kids!!! This tournament is very important to these kids that have been working all year to play in eather ASA Nationals or ASA Southern Nationals. To go to ASA Nat's you need to finish top 3 in State, if not, you are sent to Southern Nat's. That tournament can and will open new doors to future tournaments and college exposure in the future. To downgrade something kids find very important to me shows you are in this forum for the wrong reasons and it is people like you that are a large part of the problem.
Ok, before I respond.
Oh we get it.....we get that our kids #1 priority is SOFTBALL and they are willing to sacrifice many other things to achieve that goal, and when the HS coaches "get it" as you put it......maybe they will start getting more of the better athletes to play multiple sports and help their programs be more successful! Again, it doesnt have to be like that. My DD doesnt play VB because of stupid "all or none" rules. However, she does do track AT THE SAME TIME AS SOFTBALL....why? because the softball coach and track coach work together. It was made clear that softball is her priorty, the track coaches work around that. She went to regionals as a freshman in the high jump and triple jump......she also placed in the district meet in long jump. You are correct Bleed, H-J BB does require CC, thats another reason they lost BB players that are focused on SB.....the all or none method of thinking will only cause the HS sports teams to lose players.....and who does that benefit....neither!
Just what do you mean by this "all or none" rules? There are softball players that are playing volleyball at Silsbee.
Yes, in the do you play softball sense, what level of "softball" do they play? My DD doesnt" just" play softball, she plays 5 showcase tournaments this fall. Those coaches spent the majority of my DD 8th grade year tracking her down to play VB.......however would not back off "punishment" if she were to miss any part due to her softball........hence leading to the I'm not playing at all stage she is in now! All along I'm trying to talk her into playing VB......they are digging their own grave by blaming "me" for tellin her not to (which is wrong) telling her she wouldnt even get a SB scholarship due to burnout.....etc.etc..etc She was also kicked off the cheerleading squad (JV) last year for missing an event....not for missing a game in which they cheered.....for missing the pregame run through of a varsity game (yes all of what 15 min) because she had to be in Plano for a showcase.....
Hey, 9. You should move over to WO-S. We let the ladies miss district volleyball games so they can go cheer. -

What he said affects a whole host of kids that could be playing in a National event. Again I ask if the OF kids from the BC LL had played in the LL WS and missed a few Football Practices would they be kicked off of the team? or even expelled from school for missing a few days?
