  1. Forgive me for being skeptical, but I simply don't believe that the super's reasons for not disclosing the true reason for the meeting between them was to protect Mr. Reeves' reputation. Especially given that he threatened a district investigation over the affair that by all accounts, including that of investigating law enforcement, had ended long before the meeting between Wallis and Reeves....a threat which ultimately lead to the resignation of Reeves.
  2. I'll agree that it is a pity that this is the topic of discussion in Kirbyville when all they should be talking about are the accomplishments of Jeff Bennett and the Kirbyville baseball team, one of two baseball teams still playing.
  3. Sorry, but here is the whole in your theory, contained in this story: [Hidden Content] "Chief Brister says from what he's been told, the alleged affair had ended long before last week's meeting." As to the reason that we know these details of all of this is due to Wallis' own conduct. He told not one, but multiple media outlets statewide, that the meeting between him, Sayers and Reeves was to go over summer school and teacher assignments and that Reeves was not compelled to resign. Then when asked to comment on an allegation made to KFDM that at the meeting, he referred them to law enforcement. After which Kirbyville PD Chief Paul Brister released the statements of Wallis and Sayers which contradict the account that they gave the media and make the admission that they had indeed threatened Dennis Reeves with his job over the allegation of an illicit affair with his former secretary, which, as Chief Brister noted above was ended "long before last week's meeting." That sandwiched with the sudden resignation of the district athletic director to take a position as not only not the athletic director, not the head coach, not even a coordinator position, but a position coach as a smaller school with a dramatic decrease in salary as well as earlier this week the sudden resignation of an assistant principal who as part of his resignation message wrote: " I'm not sure where I will end up, but I do know that if I were to stay under the present circumstances it would compromise my integrity and it would not be loyal to Dennis. For me to keep silent would also be disloyal to our school and our entire district. It's not what I want to do ... it's right vs. wrong." certainly would tend to raise some eyebrows. Has Wallis done anything illegal? No. Even if this is the power play that many think it is, there is nothing against the law and in fact is recognized as a pretty regular tactic among new supers. Still he has done enough cloak and dagger to entitle the Kirbyville community to question his motives, especially after the death, albeit unintended, of a pretty popular faculty member.

  6. You know, when Greg Neece resigned (admittedly pretty abruptly) a lot of folks here were asking why. After the events of the past couple of weeks, you can't help but wonder if in some way we are finally getting the answer to that question.

  17. I was a college student from 1986-1990. That happened, if I am not mistaken, in 1990 (27 years ago), I was just saying that parents and fans acting a fool is not a new phenomenon. You're right, these are not gestures that should be defended. But by the same token, to declare it simply a 22-4A problem is a bit overreaching.
  18. Hey, I know there is still frustration over last nights events, but there is no place for that here.
  19. I don't that think part took a whole lot of speculating. As Gary was trying to sort out what happened on the field, what I heard was a "gentleman" drop 4 f-bombs in succession (if I remember correctly interspersed with 4 s-bombs) following the walk off hit. It was quite apparent that the guy wasn't thrilled with the result of the game or the umpire's call that lead to that hit.
  20. Just a look at the numbers, the schools of 22-4A (Bridge City, Hamshire-Fannett, Little Cypress-Mauriceville, Orangefield, Silsbee and West Orange-Stark) participated in at least 481 boys team sports events in the 2016-17 school year...you pointed out 4. If you put pen to paper that is ,08% of the events that 22-4A teams participated in. Now I don't mean to downplay the events you noted, as you correctly noted, they do require self reflection by those who participated. However, to take these four events and declare some sort of epidemic of a lack of sportsmanship smacks a little bit of a "Chicken Little" syndrome. The only thing as old as sport is claiming that you have been wronged by the official. I have seen it in Little League, Pop Warner and Little Dribblers forever. As a young college student nearly 30 years ago, I had to hold back the father of a WO-S baseball player who promised to settle affairs with an umpire in the parking lot and this was after WO-S had just won a playoff game and series. Suffice it to say, the conduct you lament is not a new event nor has the severity gotten worse. It is just more publicized because of social media. Hopefully, what you ask for fans and parents to do, they have been doing all along, but even the best of folks lose their heads.
  21. Sure, but it wouldn't be for anything you said. The person I responded to decided to make you thread into going after fans of a particular school and nothing in his post did anything but go after that group. I thought it was universally settled that it wasn't a proper thing to do (or at least to my satisfaction it was). That prompted my comment and as long as such comments about a particular fan base are not repeated here, then this thread will continue. As to the content of your argument, you will see my response below.
  22. Ok, we went through this a week ago. We keep in on the topic of 78Stang's post or this will close.
  23. I know they're frustrated, but they should be proud as well. They put up one heck of a battle.
