  1. No outs, bases loaded when Dishon went up to bat. He had struck out each time before he had been up to the plate, so what a time to get that perfect ball. Treece is an impressive player. He not only pitched well, he hit great too.
  2. No one is forgetting this. We are also not forgetting that BC has beaten HJ already this year. All that matters is how you do against your current opponent. This district has too many evenly matched teams to worry about who did what against another team. BC beat Orangefield by 13 runs, HJ barely squeaked out a 1 run win in extra innings. Do you expect BC to judge how HJ will perform based on that game? I think it's safe to say they won't. Edited for spelling
  3. The first game that Silsbee played against BC was in Silsbee and BC won. Stringer was on the mound in that game. The second game was played in BC, Silsbee won, but Stringer did not pitch. I think Jasper will beat Silsbee this time, but by a slim margin. They are tough at home.
  4. 1. I agree, small ball should be played more often. That is something Bridge City NEVER does and that falls squarely on the coach. They tried it once Tuesday and need to do it more often in order to get better at it. 2. I am not a parent of a player, not related to a player, and am not even very close friends with a player's parents, although I do know most of them. 3. BC has pulled out some squeakers, with lots of opinions about why they ALMOST lost. 4. Meeks may have walked 2 batters in a row, but that can happen to a good pitcher. He had 10 strikeouts when he was pulled and only 3 walks (that includes the two he hit in the 5th). He should have been given the chance to pitch out of that situation. No one is crying and saying Silsbee didn't win fair and square. This is a forum for expressing opinions. You have all expressed yours and now I have expressed mine. Everyone's opinion is valid, whether or not they agree.
  5. As soon as Meeks was pulled, most in the stands were voicing their opinion that it was a mistake. Yeah, we are not the coach, but the only other loss BC had was against Sulphur. That was another game of musical pitchers. It was kinda, "Been there, done that, won't work". And it didn't. HFaninthestands, you weren't there for either of BC's losses. I was, and my opinion is that Meeks had proven he could pitch against Silsbee in the first 5 innings and was more than capable of delivering the game. BC was still up by 2, Meeks was still pitching well, and sometimes you have to have a little faith. Silsbee's coach did and look who won.
  6. Meeks was striking out 1-2 players per inning. As soon as he began to get in a little trouble he was pulled. I think the coach should have had a little more faith in Meeks and left him in. It was the 6th inning and BC was still up by 2 when Meeks was pulled. Silsbee scored 5 runs on the other 3 pitchers in only 1 2/3 innings. I find it interesting that Silsbee's ace was behind by 4 runs and their coach left him in, showing confidence in him, and it paid off. Schooling and company never quit and played a great game but I think Meeks could have delivered a win for BC. I'm not taking anything away from Silsbee, they are very talented, but BC had them in the ropes and should have won. Could haves and should haves don't matter though. Silsbee played better than BC and they won. They showed a lot of composure and kept it together and that will serve them well in the playoffs.
  7. Good to see Stringer back in the game and throwing those K's! The rest of the team played a great, error-free game. A big thumbs up to Matt Hicks for his fantastic catch. Way to go Cardinals!
  8. This would be a good time for Orangefield to get that upset they almost got a couple of weeks ago against my Cardinals. It would be mighty neighborly of you! ;D
  9. Yes he did! Sorry, didn't mean to leave him out. Add three to BC's total. I think there bats are beginning to get hot!
  10. Add two more to BC's total. Chase Warner had a HR Friday night against West Orange and got another one Saturday against Kelly. Way to go, Chase. I knew you had it in you! ;D
  11. I don't know about most people on this forum, but I don't come on here to bash people and spew hatred. If that's your idea of entertainment, try the Jerry Springer show.
  12. Someone needs to tell Johnny that someone is impersonating him. Johnny is not a braggart nor does he bash other players.
  13. Orangefield is hitting well and I think they will take this one by 2.
  14. It is pretty sad when adults want to make a kid a criminal for a mistake. Yes, he was wrong. Yes, he will be penalized. But to say he was "angry" or "trying to hurt the runner deliberately" is wrong as well. How do you know for a fact what he was feeling or intending? Was he been stomping and screaming and throwing his hat or glove down beforehand? Did he look at the runner and say "Take that!" No. Everything and everyone was calm before that and he calmly left the field. It was a moment of confusion and reaction. And I guarantee if it had been YOUR child you would be a lot more forgiving. Let the coach handle it!
  15. Hey Coach, I bet if it was their kid that screwed up they would have a more forgiving attitude. I wonder how many of them forgive their kids when they are caught drinking? Do they ground them, or let them go out with their friends again? Or what if they get in a wreck or are caught speeding? How long do they ban them from driving? I personally know of some parents that shrugged it off and their kids are driving around the next day. My point is, when it is someone else's kid they think differently than when it is their own. No one is saying that he won't or shouldn't be held accountable. Just don't make the kid out to be the devil. You are all acting like the kid himself has gotten on here and said he did nothing wrong. He admitted he messed up. Let the coach handle it.
  16. How about that weird hit by the Orangefield batter? I don't remember if he pulled back around on a bunt or if it was a checked swing, but the end of the bat (below the hands) accidently made contact with the ball and it went forward a little bit right inside the line towards 1st base. The batter just stood there, not realizing it was a fair ball and the catcher just picks it up and tags the batter for an out. I felt sorry for the kid, one of those freak hits that can go either way but backfired on him.
  17. The theme of the night last night at the OF-BC game was simple. DON’T swing. Chances are, you would get a walk. The umpire had a very small strike zone and it hurt ALL the pitchers for both BC and Orangefield, especially the two starters who had more movement on their pitches. A lot of their pitches caught the corners and edges and were called balls. I was sitting by a buddy of mine from Orangefield behind the plate and neither of us was very happy. When the ump started calling all the balls for Stringer my friend looked at me several times and said “That was a strike†and he never admits an opposing players pitches are good. Of course, I had to say the same to him because the OF pitcher got strikes called as balls too. The only pitch that really wasn’t falling at all for Stringer was the curve ball. He just didn’t seem to be on like he has been so far this year. The Statum kid from OF got a couple of bad calls at the end of the game as well. Hicks and LaFleur did a great job for their teams considering no one knew where the plate was later in the game (buried about two feet under the dirt, the ump went about 2 ½ innings without cleaning it.) Guess it didn't really matter, though, the ump wasn't using it as a strike zone reference ;D. Another thing that bothered me about the game was some BC people’s perception of Orangefield’s team. When BC fell behind, I heard two other men say “And this is the weakest team in our district†about Orangefield. Folks, when are you going to wake up and realize you never count out the Bobcats. Even when they are smaller or their talent level isn’t up with other teams they never give up. They are scrappy and play hard no matter what. They jumped on every opportunity to score and if not for a couple of wild pitches, they probably would have won. They have a very smart coach and a young team and should only get better. All in all, it was a really wild game and I’m just happy the Cardinals came out of it with the win. Good luck to the Bobcats in your season, you played a heck of a game.
  18. From KOGT. They called him the one-legged wonder.
  19. Go back and read my post. I said BC won't run-rule EVERYONE not that they won't run-rule anyone. That statement comes from everyone expecting BC to run-rule like crazy this year like they did last year. Sure, I think they will probably run-rule some teams, but they have too many playoff-caliber teams in their district. And where the heck did I mention Nederland? Sheesh, you need to get your panties out of a knot, you are too quick to take offense when you are not even mentioned in the post!
  20. Silsbee left too many batters on base, but so did Bridge City. Good pitching by both pitchers got them out of those tight situations. BC usually bats better than they did Tuesday, but they did enough to win. I don't see BC run-ruling everyone in district this year, too much talent with the new alignment.
  21. Glad to see the boys continue to play hard nearing the end of a rough season. Congratulations, guys!
  22. I was there for the second half of the game to but was treated to entertainment other than the ball game. I was sitting on the Orangefield side and never have I heard so much whining and moaning and excuse making in my life. I had already been told about the situation by a couple of people but I got another earful. It was "the school had no right" this and "the school had no right" that. "The coach should have waited to suspend til Thursday, not an important district game" waa, waa, waa. The coach should be commended for putting discipline ahead of winning a game. Students who participate in extra-curricular activities are held to a certain standard of behavior, school event or not, and when an athlete doesn’t comply they are penalized. That’s why schools get involved. If you don’t like it, you can choose to get out of athletics. By making such a big deal of the minor punishment their children received by the school, these parents are setting a bad example, not to mention everyone in Orange County now knows about it because of the fuss Hey kvilleballa, any advice because I’m about to get slammed by some P***d Off mamas and daddies! Sometimes the truth hurts.
  23. Can't wait til the OF / BC game, it's always a good one. Even though OF is always favored (their record of beating us justifies this) BC girls come to play against their next door neighbors in Orange & White. This year will be even better. I think they have improved since last year.
