  1. Still got one and the weights to go with it.  I hadnt thought about jumping on it anytime soon though!  Those angle jumps are a beast.  We had a red one and by the time we was done with, the paint was wore off.
  2. Pack line Man2Man with Post Ambush if in the Low Post.
  3. True, you need both, but if you have to sacrifice one it has to be weights.  Skills are a must to be successful in basketball.  No way around it. The ideal is to do weight lifting appropriate lifts that will increase the skills enhancement.
  4. I knew HJ and some others had good youth programs, didnt know that HF did.  If they do have a good youth program and something goes amiss in those years(8th-9th), then that is a sad situation, especially for the kids.  Hopefully they can find a solution to transition from the younger ages to HS.
  5. Those are goals for short term success or winning, but if you want to continually win you have to have a strong youth program, which you will usually see if you have the above ingredients.  A coach can add those qualties in a few years if the conditions are right for him to do so. Another ingredient that is left out is you have to have a little luck especially when the playoffs start.  Another ingredient is Serventhood, or the ability to give up oneself for the team concept. But I like all the ingredients you listed, those are without doubt needed to win. JMO
  6. Good one, I was waiting on the spell check.  I would say a second cousin to a visitor!
  7. The smart thing for Blue's kids may be to move to HJ, Silsbee, or Kountze, but there has been so much talk on here it would be hard to move now without the UIL stepping in, even though it happens all the time in Texas, especially the larger cities.  Either way I wish the best for his boys, dont know them, but I like Bluedove, and wish them the best.  Or you never know, they may find someone at HF that can run the basketball program the way he wants and they will have success right at home.  But if they cant run the program the way its needed to win, it is like it has been stated on here, you could hire Bobby Knight, Don Meyer, it wouldnt matter.  You cant win if you dont have time to teach and they dont have time to learn.
  8. Kountze I guess, it would be alot closer.  I dont know that I can get a team together that quick but I can try.  We just finished our All-Star Tournament last week and they are going crazy about baseball.  Im still in basketball mode, year round.  I guess give me both contacts if they have teams and when I have the tournament up this way later in the summer I can invite and see if they want to come.  But, I am going to try and get together 8 for the Kountze Tournament.  What is the cutoff on the age?  And the contact name?  Much appreciated.  Thanks.
  9. In the paperwork that has to be done by coaches each year, Steriods Form, PAPF, Physical Form 2 times, they are going to have to add that the child have to receive an EKG.  It will cost alot of money, and with the economic crunch that everyone is in I dont see it being a requirement of the State, but it is something that players need to have.  But, you never know in life, someone could just be out for a jog or stressed at work and have a heart problem they dont know and it will eventually hurt or kill them.  Thank God for every day, He said it was like a vapor. My prayers are with the family.
  10. Any info on tournaments for 2nd, 3rd, or 4th graders.  I put this on the Youth site as well, but dont know how much attention that site gets.  They go to baseball too soon around here, we had an All-Star Tournament and thats it.  We want more games.  I got camps scheduled but we need feel ins for the summer.  Im putting a team together and may host a tournament myself, but need some games and ball between camps.  Thanks
  11. They are saying that the parents made him go, they paid for it a while back and now are making him go.  Just an excuse to me.  I think he chose a cruise over the State Championship.  This are the kids we coach, wow.
  12. Playoffs are crazy. I almost wish they would go to a 3 game series.  Alot of the times a team gets a hot and plays above themselves and at other times a team will have an off night.  With the current system, you have to have a little luck to make it to Austin, no matter how good you are.
  13. Great season HJ.  The ideal basketball program.  Congrats to the kids, and coaches on another Regional Tournament.  They dont just come by chance.  Nothing to hang your head about, most teams would love to make it to Regionals, yall have just set your standards so high making Regionals seems like it is a givin.  It was like that in the 90's when I was at Troup.  But because you set your standards so high is one of the reasons you always end back at the Regional Tournament, knocking on Austin.  Congrats again.
  14. Steve, you are correct, and I know the school you are talking about. About 3 hours north of HJ.  But 99 percent of the time, PEOPLE will not allow change to happen.  This includes, Admin, parents, Principals, AD's.  The thing about it is you have too many politics and too many people that are ignorant but think that they are not when it comes to basketball.  I hear ignorant statements all the time by parents and people that think they know basketball that it makes me slightly vomit in my mouth.  For the most part, maybe 5 percent of the population understand the game of basketball and what it takes to achieve success.  The other 95 percent dont care, dont realize they dont understand, or are roughshod over by polititical agandas.
  15. Crockett has one or two that are decent shooters, but as a whole that is their Achilles heel.  They are very aggressive, hit the boards very hard and have a pretty good inside game.  The team that beats them will either be a team that makes them play a possession game or a team that catches them on an off night.  Or a combination of both.
  16. When di Woodville turn into a ball control type of team, the times I have seen them they have pushed the tempo just as hard as Crockett.
  17. Anything can happen in the playoffs, but Crockett will have to play very badly for Woodville to have a chance.
  18. exactly, you dont want to put a mercy rule into basketball.  If it isnt broke it dosent need fixing.  That is apart of the game I dont see as broke.  Yes, there are things that need to be changed, some things need to be undone, but adding a mercy rule you cant do in basketball.  Coaches can control the schedule and the way a game is played and 99 percent of the time the score of the game being too large is not an issue.
  19. If anyone wants to talk to me you are welcome to send a private message to me.  FYI
