Manvel has 6 linemen over 6'4" and 300lbs. I read in an earlier post that one of Manvel's QBs has an offer. I know factually that 9 Manvel starters have offers and we are looking at 4 on the 2nd string. What we love about m=Manvel's depth is that 3rd and 4th quarters are normal played by Manvel's 3rd and 4th string players.
::)
And it is not true - Manvel has not had many if any games where they could play the bench - he is just yanking chains like some of the SETX regulars - believe me, no bench players played in the 3 manvel games I watched.
Only games Manvel didn't play the bench in the 3rd and 4th were LaMarque, Friendswood, Dawson & Terry! 8 games out of 12... starters watched from the bench.
 4.
Doest ne1 know if lm rb is going to play?
Now that's a good question.  Without Tim it's Dayton all the way.  With Tim it's time to strap'em up!  Good luck!
 5. Mark F Barnes... First of all, nice post! Sorry if I came off wrong. I'm just a fan, that's all.  I wish your son and team the best.  And I have a ton of respect for those involved with the kids.  My son is also in his Sr year playing for Manvel Mavericks.  And I own a small business that caters to the Pearland Oilers, Dawson Eagles & Manvel Mavericks students and parents.  I'm apart of a group of 35-45 year old THS Football fanatics that travel around watching games in the area and across the state.  Some of my favorites are Katy, Trinity, Longview, Carthage etc... Yet I live in Rosharon,Tx.  I hope I didn't offend you, as I respect everyone and their opinion.  Just to note I've seen alot of RB's this year... And Leroy Dobbins is among the best the state of Texas has to offer. Good luck w/ Dawson... I'll be there... From there I'm going to see Manvel vs. PNG.
 6. Mark F Barnes... No I'm not a sports reporter or media guy PAID to love Texas High School Football!  I work 4/10's @ a refinery and run a small business on the side.  I pay my own way and the passion comes from inside.  Don't need the media to tell me who's great and who's not.  Thurs, Fri & some Saturdays (if games scheduled) I'm @ Texas High School games watching with other engineers, parents, students & Texas High School football fanatics.  I paid my way to state my opinion.  Half those people you mentioned aren't experts... It's simply their job and their opinion.  Glad to know you're in touch with Editors, Reporters & blog sites... Coach!
 7. It should be a great game... Both teams have the issues but they are still playing!  Let me throw the Nomex on and head out!!
 8.

Here we go. First of all none of these rushers are as good as Leroy Dobbins. No one stops him, some slow him and maybe Dawson can do that. But he will still get 200+ yards, and 2-3 TDs at the least. If Dawson plans to try to stack the box and focus on Dobbins, then Bolfing will pick apart their secondary utilizing one-on-one matchups. Defensively, the Dawson O-line will have fits trying to keep up with the Montgomery defensive line. The bigger the o-line is, the better the Bear D-line does. Manvel, who beat Dawson, matches up similarly with Montgomery's numbers, except Montgomery has more yards offensively and allows less defensively. Dawson hasnt faced a premier back as talented as Dobbins in combination with a steady passing game. Montgomery doesnt turn the ball over often, and their defense forces a lot of turnovers. As often the case is, Dawson hasnt seen a defense built like Montgomery's, they are small, very strong, and extremely fast. The dawson O-line will have no idea how to handle them, and you can't just power over them, it just doesnt work. The defense is very smart and disciplined. Both sides of the ball, Montgomery has the advantage. Plain and simple.
Dawson will not be a pushover reguardless of all the attributes one may see in Montgomery.  Yards per off/def may have alot to do with whom your opponent was during the season.  Dawson has the fastest defense Montgomery has faced.  And these kids can flat out bring it.  I know that Montgomery is the best back they have faced, but T. Wright is a great back... just not as hyped as Dobbins because LaMarque chose to pass the ball last year and take him out the offense for some odd reason (new coach from Dallas).  But with a bad injury he killed the undefeated El Campo Ricebirds.  But it should be a good game because Dawson presents alot more than people know.
I appreciate your support of your team but you need to get out of that area down south every now and again.  Brenham is the fastest defense Montgomery has or will face and frankly defense is not about speed anyway...yes it helps but it is over-rated.  La Marque's back is pretty good....he dances a little too much and doesn't get upfield at times.  Dobbins is on another level and no I'm not from Montgomery nor do I have any rooting interest.
Neither am I from Dawson... and I do get North.  By the way Jimmy Johnson won 3 SuperBowls with speed on defense.
 9.
Our defense is faster and better than Dawson's.  Dawson's defense is fast, and they are pretty good, but Brenham has one of fastest and best defenses in the state.
I've seen Brenham and they are Monsters...No doubt about it.  How did Montgomery fair vs Brenham?  Exactly!  Dawson will study and duplicate Brenhams defense with a twist to it to include their LB speed.  I'm by no scretch trying to take anything away from Montgomery nor what they have achieved. It's one night and one game... and I got a feeling Dawson is prepared to win this one.  JMO
 10.
"Hyped"?????? It must be happy hour where you're at, and someone best take your keys. Leroy Dobbins is so far from "Hyped" you'd have to measure it with a laser range finder and a prism. Leroy is the least talked about back in the state, all anyone hears is Malcolm Brown, Jonathon Gray, KC Nlemchi, Quandre Diggs. Tim Wright, etc etc. Leroy stays under the radar, and just delivers on game day.  Don't drink and drive please.
No happy hour and I cover alot high school football games/boards/mags... and if you haven't heard the hype surrounding Dobbins maybe you should stay out of the bar and get into this sport.  By the way I haven't seen Tim Wright hyped at all.  Until he came out hard this year.  Dobbins has been on magazine covers etc... along with the others you mentioned.  Come with facts, don't just sit around punching keys.  You must be smoking if you play down the hype Dobbins has been given the past two seasons.  But he has deserved every single bit of it.  Great kid, running in a great system.
 11.

I wonder how this whole QB rotation thing that Manvel does is going to work?  I see they've been doing it all year and it's worked out fairly well.  I just don't know about that approach in the playoffs.  It's hard enough to get one guy into the game and into rhythm in the playoffs (and shake the nerves).  PNG's had more than one game this year where it pretty much came down to who had the ball last.  So say one guy has it rolling for Manvel (7 for example) and the other guy has an off night (8 for example).  Do they change and go with the hot hand?  I could see this game being a shootout and the game being lost by not scoring on 1 or 2 drives.  I'm just not sold on the whole idea of a QB rotation from drive to drive.  If one guy brings something different then the other guy then MAYBE I can see it (Tebow and Leak at Florida, Lee and Jeffersuck at LSU).  Thoughts?
I've been thinking the same thing. While there have been some quarterback duos that achieve sucess, Im not a fan of it. The QB situation at LSU looks like a diaster waiting to happen. So far it is working and it must be working for Mavel too. What do I know? I guess that is why I have to put on Nomex and work the holidays and weekend! I look for this to be a good game. Manvel may not be the best team in 24-4A, but they are in the best district in the state. By the way... Two-dogs, you are kinda stretching it a bit.  :)
The quarterback thing has scared me also, but it has workes thus far.  In a comeback victory against Dawson & a seal the deal drive against Terry... Manvel coach went with #8.  He's the most athletic of the two and he has no quit in him.  #7 is more of an in the pocket QB  that runs if he pocket collapse.  Really it depends on what the opposition forces the coach to do.  But they are two very good talents.
 12.
well i watched the video of the manvel vs lamarque game and it looked like they got blown right out the stadium. It looks as if lamarque had no problems running the pill against the mavericks, but they had success throwing the rock too!! With that being said i can see doty and company having a big night if  our offensive line can take care of business up front. I can see bertrand doing what he does best running and moving the chains. Our defense is what it is so i can see it going back and fourth all night. but i dont see it being as high scoring a game as with willis. I have nothing but respect for manvel and am anxious to get this game on, win or lose the ndns have come a long way this year, and soulja just to let you know  will have a png hat on his noggin you can take that to the bank lol! he will try to hide it but i wont let him get away with it lol. I supported the jags last friday night along with others even saw the football team there up top along with ned fans dayton fans lcm fans and even some brook and east chambers fans . good to see all the support for 20-4A! Only in southeast texas!!!!!!!! Scalpem indians!!!!! That LaMaque game was Manvels worst game if the year.  Tim Wright had a field day.  Alot of things had changed since that night.  Actually Manvel showed up in a pass defense and paid for it. I've seen PNG and their back is good but not near as explosive as Tim Wright.  Manvel have changed plenty of things since then that's why they were 2nd in 24-4A!  But PNG  have plenty of film where teams just scored at will.  It'll be an intersting game!!  One thing I must say... I really admire the PNG fans.  One way or the other... Let's pray for safe trips, no injuries.  These kids have worked hard to get hear... Let's just be thankful our teams or still here to cheer for!
That's basically the bottom line.  But it will not be easy for either team.
Your in for a rude awakening if you think your stronger, tougher and faster...yeah maybe ya have a few kids who are real fast but PNG isnt slow pokes by any means. Stronger?? Tougher?? I laugh at that. I actually love it that you guys have the opinion that PNG has to play a perfect game to win this one, it tells me ya'll have no idea what you are getting into. Do me a favor..go back and tell the team that all they need to do is show up against PNG and execute and they will win because you couldnt lead them anymore from the truth. They better not only execute but they better be on top of their game. You are correct about one thing...it's gonna be a great game and hopefully no kids get hurt and hopefully neither team is on an "off" night and both teams play to their full capabilities. I look foward to getting your opinion after the game. Win or lose come back and tell me what ya think afterwards alright??
A few fast kids...  you can laugh... they'll play Sat.  and we'll get on the board to discuss the outcome.
 15. Crosby got flatlined by Dawson 28-0 this year.  Diggs is an athlete that rushes out of the option... More or less another RB. Diggs is undeniably a beast.  Tim Wright ran for 1800 + change in only 9 games.  He's a beast too... Johnson from Friendswood is a speedster out of spread... On & on... Dawsons will challenge the run against the best of them. Yes they do have 2 losses to good 5A squads...  But alot has changed since then, being that they learned from those losses.  Montgomery only has a loss to Brenham which may be the only team they played on Dawson level across the board!  Remember Dawson was a State Semi-Finalist last year that loss to Lake Travis!  They went into those playoffs with some losses also!  Be ready for an upset!
 16.
BTW my prediction is.. PNG 45 Manvel 28 Manvel is overrated now...their local newspaper picked em dead last in their district a few weeks before the season kicked off..i'd say they are somewhere in the middle of that and all the hype now. I can tell ya this..no matter what the outcome, they have a BATTLE on their hands cause the hometown boys are all business!!! Manvel better not show up thinking they got this one licked before it starts cause they will get shocked and sent home wondering what just happened. They better show up to play their A game. Oh yeah that same paper pick G-Ball to be around the top of 24-4A after making 5A playoffs last year, but they didn't win a game in district.  One fact for sure, he was dead wrong all the way around the board.  Manvel placed 2nd in 24-4A and only getting stronger, while G-Ball is getting ready to prove why they are one the #1 basketball teams in the state.  Manvel is strong and the PNG coaches & kids know they have their hands full.  It's one thing to come in dreaming of the perfect game (PN-G) and another to know that you have been game tested for the past 9 weeks (excluding Washington) of football.  All Manvel have to do is execute and beat a team that they are stronger, tougher & faster than. 17. I know the problems that Montgomery present w/ the run game...  And I respect that.  But Dawson defense has become relentless.  They just held Quandre Diggs to around 65 yards rushing and he a beast UT commit from Angleton.  Dawson LB core average 4.4 speed and Steve O. (MLB) is a terror.  They will present problems to any opponent.  There's no escaping the speed that Dawson bring. Since the Friendwood lost I must say Dawson has the best Defense I seen against the run.  Ex.  Walton (Sante Fe), Johnson (Friendswood), T. Wright (La Marque) , Diggs (Angleton) all far below 100 yards.  They will bring the house and spy Dobbins w/ Steve O.  There will be some problems.  Their offense is just as loaded... Only slacking due to conservative play calling.  Please believe me... There's a huge chance that Dawson will punish Montgomery!  They are ready for War!!  Don't let the record fool you... 2 losses in 24-4A isn't bad at all.
 18.

I think Chase ought to be able to have a big game this week. When Manvel has played against decent team's, the rb's have fared well. The Lamarque back had over 300 yard's rushing against them. They will also give it up through the air. I have heard from someone who has seen both team's play that we will have our hand's full. He said if our defense can just play close to the way we played against Central then we will be fine. He said that if we pressure the qb's they become very inconsistent throwing the ball. He also said that Manvel will have a tough time stopping our offense but they do have the athlete's to stop us unlike Willis. So I look for another exciting game.
The question is do PNG have the athletes on their Defense to put pressure on QBs as athletic as Manvels.  Or would they simply be opening running lanes for them.  Plain & Simple... Manvel is very good and some of those games you may have scouted were district foes that has prepared for these QB's year in and year out.  Dawson pressured Manvel, but they may have the top defense in this bracket.  LaMarque is decent also, but the turnovers and Tim Wright is where the problem came in that one.  Manvel held Sante Fe, Frienswood, Texas City and plenty other decent RB's in check... Easily!  Most of these ghost rushing yards were put on the 3rd string players.  Though it should be good game, I just feel 24-4A has prepared these teams to destroy the playoffs.  Manvel by 10 or more.  If PNG is having problems stopping Willis... Wait til' they meet real speed.  On both sides of the ball.  I've heard the same thing about both qb's.  When they get pressured, they lose their accuracy and it affects them mentally.
yeah thats what i told you after seeing the videos of them, get pressure on them and the quarterback makes a dumb choice. either keeps it and loses major yards, or throws in up. But just an observation
