  1. Couldn't disagree more. What about Ching don't you like, and who do you want to put in his place? What else about the line-up is bad?
  2. Not even close. Unless you count the 1930 Tournament that was more of an invitational [Hidden Content]
  3. [Hidden Content] Check out the "Davy Arnaud goal reel" in the WIZARDS HIGHLIGHT VIDEOS section in the middle of the page.

  5. Nederland played two games against each of the following opponents: PA Memorial, Vidor, LCM, PNG, Central, and Ozen, and one game against Lumberton and Kelly. In those 14 games against these local teams Nederland gave up TWO TOTAL GOALS. That's a Goals Against average of 0.14.
  6. How about an alien official who brings some sort of extra-terrestrial flu that infects our team and also has the ability to control the weather!! That's what I'm using next time.
  7. The line between intelligent, spirited debate and mindless trash-talking is neither fine nor particularly hard to find. Those who mistake one for the other are usually drawing their own line... often in crayon.

  9. What a difference a day makes! Nederland 1 Kingwood Park 1 Nederland played great in the first half in every aspect of the game...except the scoreboard. A counter attack goal with three and half minutes left in the first half put KP up 1-0. Nederland led in shots 6 to 3. In the second half, the dim-witted Nederland coaching staff decided to once again switch from a 4-5-1 to a 4-4-2 formation which led to... wait for it... not yet... ready... HOORAY! Nederland led the second half in shots 6 to 3!!!! Wait. What do you mean that's no different than the first half?!?! Whatever! Anyway, Bay Callaway put an absolutely brilliant free kick ( ) into the upper left corner from 30 yards out with about 15 minutes left in the game to tie the score. Today, Brazoswood beat Katy Seven Lakes 3-0 which means: If KP loses to B'wood and Nederland beats K7L it comes down to Goals For/Goals Against. I'm not going into the math of it all because I teach English and I don't want to sprain my brain, but a B'wood win 3-0 and a Big Ned win 3-0 puts the Dogs into the 3rd place match.
  10. Wow. One loss and the bleacher coaches are already showing up. : Thanks for the support. I'm looking forward to my birthday card... This is the same formation that put 20 shots on goal last Friday against Memorial and had several good scoring opportunities against an excellent Lumberton team in the second scrimmage. Apparently it went unnoticed, but we ran with two forwards for the majority of the second half, as well. All in all, it doesn't matter what formation you run, when the other team competes harder, wins the 50-50 balls, and has better touch they will usually come out ahead. And the day that our outside midfielders are not asked to defend is the day that there is a new coach in Nederland - which would please you it seems. Defending is a TEAM action, not an individual one. The first thing the Kingwood Park coach said to me last night was, "Man, you guys looked flat." I'll take the blame for that. Team preparation is on my back. But to blame our formation or philosophy is lame. The success of Nederland soccer has always depended on the amount of hustle, the amount of effort, and the sheer determination to WIN - not PLAY. I know it's early and I don't wish to be critical, but you know how to get in touch with me instead of blasting me on a public forum hiding behind a screen name...
  11. Man, I really like the enthusiasm and all, but that was a Memorial's JV. The title of this thread is a little misleading. A good result none the less.
  12. When was this game? Memorial plays Kelly tonight. Or was this girls?
  13. Coach L is definitely not a football guy who is forced to coach soccer. He plays the game, knows the game, and teaches the game. A poorly coached team - no matter how much talent - is easy to spot. Lumberton is obviously well coached. This shouldn't even be a discussion. He's got my respect. Back to back trophies are the only proof anyone needs.
  14. Bay is a great kid, too. All A's in his classes and always respectful and upbeat. We're still young. Tonight we started 4 sophs (Bay, Wags, Salenga, and Holden Butler) and 3 Jrs (O'Neill, Miles Lawler, and Hector Garcia). A couple of starters were a little banged up. Austin Wylble (JR) pulled a muscle in the first half agains Lumberton on Tuesday, and Jake Kemp (SO) hurt his ankle and has a virus. We suited up 15 and had ZERO drop-off from the starting 11 to the guys coming off of the bench. I think that was the difference in the game as PAM is missing a handful of guys from grades. By the way, Mid-County folks should get a PA News on Sunday because that's when Tom Haliburton is supposed to run the soccer preview.
  15. I'm guessing this is WO-S's schedule above here...
  16. Nederland......2 2 4 PA Memorial...0 1 1 Nederland goals: Jared Willson (pk), Bay Callaway (Jordan O'Neill asst), Jared Willson (Michael Roebuck asst), Jordan Wagner (pk)
  17. The UIL designated the soccer season where it is for two main reasons: 1. As little conflict as possible with other sports. 2. It's a relatively slow time on the club soccer calendar at the beginning of the season.
  18. Put ANY OTHER SPORT outdoors in near-freezing temperatures and rain, and take a look at the attendence figures. I love it when people joke about "soccer weather." This isn't soccer weather, it's Texas UIL soccer weather. Soccer became a team sport after the big sports had established their seasons, and the UIL didn't want the soccer season to overlap with others. Look around at the rest of the country and notice that a lot of their state championships are in November. The NCAA's are done before Christmas. Even the EPL in rainy England takes a "Winter Break." Give us green grass and sunshine and I promise you that we would put the same people in the stands as basketball or baseball.
  19. The bottom line is the bottom line. There are no style points in soccer. Lumberton had a great game plan: defend in numbers & counter-attack with speed. Hats off to them. And as far as playing on the turf being an advantage for either team, it might mean Nederland is able to control the ball a little bit better, but it also means that Poole and Brakin are that much faster!
  20. They haven't contacted us looking for games. I hope they do, though. 3A needs about 30 or so teams throughout the state to start up programs so that they can have their own division, and subsequently, their own state champion.
  21. Agreed. I guess I misunderstood the earlier post that said The "anybody" there means anyone who chooses to, or "just anybody." I originally thought he was saying no one at all could do it.
  22. I don't believe that anybody can go in and ask to see a teacher's emails, gradebooks or lesson plans. That is simply not true. I hate to take the Young Coach's side here because he seems a little brash and immature, but we sign a release at our school that says that administrators may check to see what websites our computers visit. Our email activity is reviewable, as well, and will be saved for FIVE YEARS. So there you go, ya liar! ;D
