Yes, and having multiple forums for Lamar is good.  Competition is good.
Just don't post the name of it or your post will get deleted. Also don't try to give other website's their due credit on stories or that will be deleted too. You have to love class.  :D
 3.
I like to stay focused on what it will take for LU to be successful, whether we make the move to WAC or stay FCS.  If we move, I trust that Dr. Simmons and his team of Tubbs and Tidwell have prepared a very detailed plan that includes what is would take financially to be successful, not just the minimum that would be needed.  Lets do this right and have a real chance to elevate the program and the University.  This could be huge for LU and Beaumont.  As for our friends at Sam, I wish nothing but the best for them and I wouldn't mind at all if they joined us in a move if we make it.  Would love to see ULL make the move to the WAC as well.  That would be a great addition for LU.
Let's also stop focusing on how much better we are than SHSU. Instead of comparing ourselves to other schools lets just be proud of Lamar for what Lamar is. Basically, if we are going to trash SHSU how does that make us any better than what some of the SHSU fans tend to do from time to time?
Wasn't talking about the athletes, I was talking about the student population in general.
4000 students within a mile of campus, you honestly know nothing about this topic. I'm a CURRENT student.

As you can see, there are no threads here or on BRI about the Kat's and their athletic programs.
Neither board particularly cares or covers the Southland...
Neither does McNeese. I like the guys over on the McNeese board, they follow their sports teams and if someone from Lamar comes and talks to them they just chat with them. They don't feel the need to constantly tell you what's wrong with your program or how great their sports teams are in comparison.
 6.
Some of you guys on here would criticize Jesus if he came down from Heaven to coach the cardinals and Lamar didn't win 30 games in his first year.  Roc is doing a heck of a job running the mens program. The wins haven't happen like most want, but a HECK OF A COACH is busting his butt to put a team on the court that the university and city can be proud of... How many team has Larry Brown coached that have had a losing record?  Lenny Wilkins, etc... does that mean they are awful coaches?
How are you proud of this program? Don't get me wrong, I appreciate coach Roc's effort, but he is not making the program into something we can be proud of. Look how he behaves in front of the fans and players? If you think Lamar which has an RPI of over 300 (there are only 350 teams) is a program to be proud of then we have different standards.

Hopefully he finds something at another school and leaves on his own, that would let him leave with dignity.

The FCS title game draws that rating and ESPN does basically NOTHING to promote FCS football or the title game, other than showing the game. Will it outdraw the TAMU-LSU, absolutely not. ESPN markets the heck out of those bottom bowl games. They've got all the fantasy games online related to it, they've gone analysts spending countless hours before the game trying to figure out if MTSU will be Miami (Ohio).
Think about this. What is your probability of getting into a Bowl versus the FCS Championship game. Each conference has at least one bowl if not two. That gives you a 1/12 at the least chance of being on TV year in and year out. How many FCS teams are there? Over 100 surely, and only two make it to the championship. I would rather be in a Toilet Bowl (which gets replayed on ESPN countless times) rather than the FCS Championship. There is no way you're going to convince anyone that the FCS championship game is worth as much as a lesser bowl.
As it stands, you're right. It's worth much more. The problem is, FCS has only seemed to grow over the past couple years as more and more FCS teams upset the major programs. Those bottom bowls will always be at the bottom, with half empty stadiums. There's no upside there. Also, you're probabilities are WAY off. That 1/12 is assuming that each team in the conference is equal, and it's not.
I know but there is easy way to quantify the odds. I'm just saying that in the end I'm sure the probability of us making a small bowl is better. Lamar Football in 10 years: SLC: might get a NC game but I wouldn't count on it. WAC: If we can at least pay competitive salaries for our coaches much better opportunity for getting into a WAC Bowl. I think the WAC would at least have 2 bowls by then.

I don't care if Lamar is playing as the president of Ohio St. would say the sisters of the poor.  I am just happy Lamar has football!!  I will worry about conferences later down the road
Eureka! Someone finally gets it! We're here to support Lamar U, not some Sun Belt, C-USA, or WAC team that has a distantly familiar name. When people in Beaumont figure out that: UT, Texas A&M and Tech don't spend money in Beaumont, don't care what goes on here, and don't educate the majority of our youth, then Lamar U will finally have arrived!
 13.
Not so fast says Simmons ...
“They have not contacted me,” Lamar president Jimmy Simmons said. “We had mentioned before that we’d be open to anything that would give us the ability to change direction and move up. At this point, until they make a definitive offer, there’s nothing to discuss.” “I haven’t talked with anyone,” added Lamar athletic director Larry Tidwell.
[Hidden Content]
I guess Lazeek was pulling our leg? 14.
Why give your money to Lamar when they are producing what they have in the past few games. There's a difference in supporting the University and supporting a poor product on the field. Would you go to the local theater if they always had choppy films just because they are a local business that needs supporting? I doubt it. College athletics is like any other business. If you want support then you need to produce a consistently good (doesn't have to be great) product.
First since your not an Lamar alumnus, but an alumnus from another rival school you couldn't understand. For you to post this makes no sense. If your not an alumnus but a local who supports Lamar because it is in your back yard then the story is different. I can see if we had 10 years of losing football teams then you might become disillusioned and stop supporting the team. But we have less than one season under our belts. Anyone who stops supporting Lamar now isn't a fan worth having anyways. For myself who will graduate this year and become an alumnus of the university my support is life long. I want us to win but if we don't I'm not going to stop supporting the team. Lamar means much more to me than just a sports franchise, it's where I have been tailored into the person I am today.

NO so shut up about everything being bevil! You win as a TEAM and lose as a TEAM! the whole team sucked tonight and SFA is very good!
I am not a Bevil hater, but he did thrown in the towel. The team and coaches all cowardly threw in the towel. When it was 50-3, I saw a Lamar player let a SFA player score. Then whole second half LU ran draw plays. LU didn't try to come back. LU didn't try to score for at least some respect. I thought Jason Garret was playing calling since LU only ran 5 plays the whole game. I didn't expect LU to win or be a close game, but I did expect them to play hard. They didn't. They embarrassed the school, the community, the game, and fans. If you don't want to play football or coach football, GET OFF THE TEAM.
You have shown me what type of LU fan you are, GET OFF THE BOARD. Embarrassed the school? How? Embarrassed the community? How? It's our 4th game for crying out loud people, you have some unrealistic expectations. We can still have a great season, with our without your whimsical support.
"Personally, I expected us to lose to McNEese 56-0.  Anyway I fully expect yall to beat the crap out of us. "
McNeese was ranked 12th.  Se La is picked somewhere in the top 3 of the SLC.  We are a start up program.  I think more people would agree with me than you.  I think most people would have thought that we stood no chance of winning at McNeese nor at SE La.  Don't get me wrong, i am thrilled.  I hope we run the table but I'd still be shocked if we finish above .500.  I hope I'm wrong.  I hope we run the table.  I hope President Obama invites us to the White House after the season (and we turn him down).  I hope we well out every home game for the next 20 years.
To the people who thought Lamar would be blown out every SLC game this year. Many cardinal fans that have been following the program since it started up were predicting losses to McNeese by only two or three TDs. Almost every Cardinal fan I know that was following the team since before the season started has predicted around 5 to 6 wins on the season. All I'm saying is the thoughts like LU being blown out 56-0 by McNeese or the thought that Lamar finishing above .500 is shocking obviously haven't been following the team too closely. I predicted a 6-5 season for the Cards. I think we may be able to pull off as high as 8-3 if everything went well for us. I think we could potentially only lose to McNeese, SFA and NDSU I predicted  LU would keep McNeese under 30 and that we would lose by less than two TDs. I predicted a very tight game with SELU 27-24

When you announce concrete plans to increase stadium capacity to 30k, then we'll start talking because there is no way you will continue to average 15k+ per home game.  Texas State will never get out of the shadows of UT.  Lamar and Sam simply don't have the fan support or population level needed.  UTSA.....maybe, if San Antonio shows they care, which to this point, they haven't. If the WAC continues with its rumored expansion plan, the Sun Belch may no longer be the doormat of FBS.  Seriously?  Games with Montana, Montana State, Louisiana Tech, Texas State, UTSA, San Jose State.....this is going to be a better fit for you than the Southland.  I would encourage all of you to look at McNeese.  They average more "real" fans than ULM and ULL.  They beat ULM and ULL when they play them.  They participate in a football playoff instead of hoping to be rewarded with a game in the New Orleans Bowl.  It CAN work in FCS and does work in FCS.  The grass isn't always greener on the other side my friends. As for reality......Hope to see some of you in Hammond this weekend where we'll show you what the SLC is like when there's tape on you.  You, just like Texas State, don't even dominate in the SLC and you think you are worthy of moving up to the next level.  Get a grip.  Win some games, win some championships, actually SELL OUT your stadium on a consistant basis, and then talk like you deserve it.
pwdonaldson, quite a post there being new to the site and all. Where do I start? All the FBS talk is a little much for a startup program like Lamar. No one is talking about the game with SE Louisiana? Well we have this site and bigredinsider.com which is another Lamar fan site. I've seen a few comments about the game. Myself, I think we better improve in all phases of the team; offense, defense, special teams and even coaching. No one get mad about that comment as a staff they have only coached together 2 games so I hope there can be improvement. You state SE has tape on us, well we have tape on the Lions and the starting QB and his backup. I hear there are a few new twist on offense SE will be seeing for the first time. How much does your stadium hold? No one here has stated we don't want to be is the same conference as you. Heck, now all our sports well play in the Eastern Division of the SLC. Some like TexasTerror says it is the weaker of the two divisions. Guess we'll see. You mention attendance at Lamar, well I got it from a good source we are almost sold out for the SHSU game and that game is in 3 wks. You have no factual information to state we won't continue to average 15k. McNeese averages about 12k in attendance and I think we'll only be second to them and if we didn't have to reduce capacity from 17,500 to 16,000 to comply with Federal Disability Rights Laws we might average more. There is about 400,000 in and around SE Texas. Beaumont itself has over 100,000 so there is enough to support a move to FBS if that is what the administration sees best for the Lamar athletic program. Like I've stated earlier we are 5-6 years from making that type of decision in my opinion. However, I promise you if we do have "concrete" plans of going FBS it will be before renovation of the stadium to hold 30,000 occurs because money doesn't fall off trees so there will need to be a joint (administration/athletic/community) effort to raise the money for that endeavor. No one knows what the future hold in regard to conference realignment. Heck, one week UT was going to the Pac 10 and the next they are staying in the Big 12. So, if someone states what conference Lamar "could" end up in they are not being truthful. Back to McNeese, they are about 60 miles from the Lamar campus so we know about McNeese. My brother played for McNeese in the early 90's under Coach Bobby Keasler. They average about 12k per home game. Yes, they beat ULL about 3 years ago. This is our first year playing football since 1989 so how can we win championships when we haven't played? If you are talking about other sports. Let me think, volleyball won conference a couple years ago, baseball won the SLC tournament and went to regionals, women's basketball won both the conference regular season and the SLC tournament and will be even stronger this year. A lot of letterman return for Coach Tidwell. Golf, Lamar is always pretty good and have the most conference titles of any school in the SLC. Cross Country we are one of the best in the southwest region. Men's basketball was co-champions three years ago although it seems like forever. Women's tennis is pretty good as we have the SLC POY. Women's soccer is improving yearly and I'm interested in how they are going to do this season in SLC play. Finally, our "reality check" at SE Louisiana. You got tape on us and we have tape on you. We have to play better in all phases of the game to win Saturday. Sorry if it hurt your feelings that we haven't talked about the game with SE Louisiana as much as you would like. IMO, the talk about FBS needs to wait a few years but that is for Lamar alumni/students/fan's/administration to decide not a poster from another SLC school.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks for setting the record straight BigRed360. Lamar has plenty to be proud of in it's athletic department.

 25.
UTSA is starting football from scratch with the absolute goal of going FBS ASAP!  They have two advantages over LU in that they are located in a major metropolitan area and they have the Alamodome at their disposal.  I'm not sure the Alamodome is a "big" advantage, but it is much larger and meets FBS standards whereas PU must be expanded and will never have that large of seating capacity.  That said, I think LU can match or beat UTSA in in every other aspect.  If Woodard puts together a 1st class program that is sucessful and generates excitement among students and the fan base, then success will breed success.  I hope that Dr. Simmons will explore every opportunity and thinks big.  If it turns out LU can't go FBS whether that is outside there control or not, then I hope the goal is to be the best FCS school in the nation.
UTSA and to an Extent TxSt have very little in common with LU other than being members of the Southland. UTSA is in the UT system that means it has a larger portion of funding set aside for it in the state budget than LU does. It's not really fair but it's politics and the UT and A&M grads control Austin. I know that the state doesn't fund athletics but when you have more money coming to your academics from state sources you can use more of your student generated revenue for things like Athletics. The thought that state budgets don't affect athletics in Texas is absurd. Another big difference, Enrollment and Alumni, Both UTSA and TxSt have about 30000 students and that means a significant amount of alumni too. LU has 14,000 and really only about 12,000 when you subtract the online masters students, we have roughly 70,000 living alumni. We don't size up with those schools as far as money goes. TxSt and UTSA represent what economies of scale can do for a university. Furthermore UTSA is in a large media market and TxSt is in between two large media markets. They can both leverage their positions. This is directed at other post I have seen: The thought that the Southland is the worst in collegiate athletics is preposterous. The Southland is certainly not the best but also far from the worse, it could be the worst if both UTSA and TxSt jump ship too soon though. All along I have said that I'm not advocating a small minded approach for the school. I'm advocating a common sense approach, and understanding. Everyone, please understand our unique situation and don't hold it against us.
