1. Texas knocks out Tx State with 2 in the bottom on the 9th off of a bases loaded ground-rule double.  Good year for Tx State.  Congrats.
2. That's the game where instant replay was instituted in NCAA baseball if I remember correctly.  What a sham.
3.
He is responsible for the recruits, no doubt, but the young guys beat the recruiting trail a lil better. Not sure who the ties were but I remember 10/12 years ago alot of recruits coming from the Northeast. Can't blame Gilligan for slowing down on the travel trail it's just not as much fun when you get a lil older.
Then let's get someone who isn't worn out.  Losing ain't fun either.
4. Jim has done a great job for LU over the years.....but as they say  "what has he done for us lately?"  He's got a street named for him.  It's time to clean house.
5.
la la la la la la ! The fat lady is warming up!
She started warming up when Harrington went out.
6. Every team has the new bats..... Old bats or new....LU is still a bottom of the pack team in the SLC
7. Geezer....when is the last time you saw a spectacular infield play at the Beck??  I don't remember any this year.  I remember a short-stop that couldn't reach first from deep in the hole, and I remember a lot of average fielding.  What I don't remember is any ATHLETES out there.  I love LU baseball, but this has been 2 painful seasons in a row.  Weak hitting,  lackluster defense,  tentative running and the most conservative 3rd base coach I've ever seen.  I did get to see my first ever triple play in person.  Too bad it was LU's poor base running that caused it.  I hope next season brings changes.  But I doubt it.
8. To nobody's surprise, LU is absent from the 1st and 2nd teams.  Congrats to Jeff Abt and Blake Ford for making the 3rd team.  But is this what Lamar has sunk to?  I know injuries took a toll this year, but this is beginning to be a habit.  The talent just hasn't been being brought in, and the conference standings this year and last show it.
9.
I don't want to get too into it with the OP, but I'll offer a Texas State fan's assessment as to why this jump makes sense. 1. You already schedule body bag games with BCS teams, why not collect a higher paycheck? Sometimes 2-3 times the amount? 2. Consider your peers, academic wise. How do you like being associated with Nicholls St, Southeastern LA, Prison U, Stephen F Austin, TAMU-Corpus? Do you feel they are at LU's level for academics? Or would you rather be associated with Utah State, University of Idaho, San Jose State, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, University of Denver? A handful of these WAC schools are the best, second, or third best academic schools in their respective state. 3. To be frank, if you go WAC you would be choosing the worst FBS conference available (football wise). Some see this as a bad thing, but I see it as an opportunity. What better way to grow and transition your program than in a conference with schools who already aren't that much better than yourself? 4. TV opportunities and exposure are much greater in an FBS conference and judging by TV ratings of the FCS national championship, any one of the toilet bowls garners more attention than the game currently held in Frisco (and toilet bowls aren't incredibly hard to get into). 5. You'll see an increase in quality of OOC opponents coming to play you at home. At Texas State (since last Nov), we've already scheduled Texas Tech, Navy, Nevada, and Wyoming in San Marcos with much more to come! I think in Lamr and Sam Houston's cases, it's a matter of not being left behind. And while I am quick to harp on Prison U's desire, I completely understand it. I don't want to even think of the replacements the Southland selects should another school or two leave the conference for either budget reasons (LA) or conference realignment (SHSU/LU).
makes a lot of sense to me
10. 13-6 final.  Not a lot of offense for LU after the HUGE 1st inning.
11. Ford looked pretty good tonight.  Home plate ump was a little erratic the first few innings but seemed to find a strike zone.  Zentek looked great with a 2 run homer and 3 run double.    Too little,  too late??
12.
Gilligan will leave when Gilligan wants to
I assume you are right, but certainly a new AD will at least take a look at a once proud program that is now in the trenches and ask the question, right??  Again, I have the utmost respect for Gilligan and what he has done for LU.  But just as Tubbs' time has come and gone, you have to think maybe Gilligans has too.
13. In my opinion, this has been a poorly coached team for 2-3 years.  I know injuries have been devastating this year, but defense has been poor, there has been ZERO hitting (yeah, I know...it's the bats...those damned bats).  I just think it is time for a change.  I love what Gilligan has done....he IS Lamar baseball.  But the time has come to go in a different direction.    Recruiting has slipped dramatically.  How many all-conference players have we had in the last 3 years??  Bet you can count them on one hand.  It's time for a change.  Maybe a new AD won't be beholding to Gilligan and can objectively look at the program and see the downward spiral it is in.
14.
Doesn't look good for the home team, but with six games left, they might be able to squeeze into the tourney.
At this point, why would you even want them in the tourney?  I hope Tx State rolls through the topurney and then makes a great showing in the NCAA tourney.  If LU even gets in the conference tourney, they sure aren't going to luck out like last year.
15. The win was nice, but both of these teams are TERRIBLE at this point of the season.  They don't either deserve to be in the conference tourney.  And how about the triple play?  I guess the runner at third couldn't tell if the ball to second was caught in the air or one-hopped.  I don't blame him.  It was just a real unusual game.  I'm somewhat surprised LU pitching didn't do a little more retaliation in the 9th.  I think it would have been justified.
16. I had a hard time deciding if the NW pitcher was that good, or LU batters just really suck.  It looked to me like they didn't really give a damn.  I hate to think that they have quit on Gilligan.  It looked tonight like boith teams were fighting FOR last place in conference.  Both teams' performances were pretty embarrassing.
17. A championship caliber coach hasn't been Jerry's priority.   I hope Tidwell's and Simmon's is.   I'm not saying Gilligan is the problem, but he has to part of it.  This is his program...has been for over 30 yrs....and it is stagnant.   Where are the players?  Have you looked at the all-conference teams lately?  You have to go a long ways down the list to find many Cardinals.  With the exception of the usual above average pitcher or two, (all of which are injured this season) the talent isn't there.  And that IS Gilligan"s fault.  Talent wins games, and we don't have it.   When Gilligan does go, they need to look outside the program also. Ricklefsen is Gilligan's asst head coach, his top recruiter....and like I said, the talent ain't there.  Ricklefsen needs to be held responsible too.  He doesn't need the job handed to him.  They need to look far and wide for a top caliber coach, not just rubberstamp Ricklefsen.
18.
I mean is this what Lamar Baseball as come down too!!!lets barley get in the conference tourney and have hope of winning it and going to regionals, Lamar Baseball program shouldn't being regressing!!! it should be progressing, I really believe there should be a change Gilligan used to be one of the best coaches in the nation but I feel his time as come.... yes anything can happen but Lamar baseball shouldn't be in this situation they should be top 3 in the conference each and every yr!!!!
I agree.  Is it good enough now to squeak into the conference tournament, accidently win and then get immediately ousted from a regional now?  There was a day not too long ago when Lamar was expected to go to the NCAA.  Once we got there, the players EXPECTED  to win, if not the regional, at least a game or two.  Now we are scratching and clawing through conference in hopes of getting a 7 or 8 seed in the SLC tournament???  I for one wasn't impressed with last year's results, even though LU caught fire for one 4 day span and won the tourney.  That was obviously a fluke, and I would wager a month's salary, won't happen again.  I'm not necessarily saying Gilligan needs to go, but I certainly think it needs to be given strong consideration.  I am fully appreciative of all he has done for LU, but we are going backwards now.  It seems that almost every other team in the conference is moving forward with their program, and we, under Gilligans leadership are, at best, treading water.  We have a bunch of average  players.  The pitching corps was going to be our best chance at success, and it has been decimated by injury.  Gilligans fault?  I don't know, but he is the pitching guru. something has to change or we will be relegated to a bottom of the conference finish each year.
19.
Teams do it all the time. We aren't getting blown out everytime. The Red Sox were horrible at the beginning of the year but they are fine now. Still time to work it out. It won't be easy however.
No, the Cards aren't getting blown out.  They are finding ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.  And they seem to have almost perfected it.  I don't see them going anywhere even if they make the tourney.  There won't be the luck they had in last year's tourney.
20.
They have plenty of time it's very tight in the middle of the pack rightnow
I understand that...theoretically, but I haven't seen much to give me any hope.  They certainly aren't getting better each game.  I can't remember the last time I saw a 6 game conference losing streak....  and these were "middle of the pack" teams we lost to.
21. This season is shot....time to start preparing for next season.
22.

wow this is crazy with the pitchers, might have to change there off-season work out program.
Yeah let's just say this year's offseason program was much different than the past.
In what way?
