  1. One more thing for you UT fans since we are talking about mascots. The Inola mascot is the Longhorns. ;^(
  2. If it was 35 years ago, the race track was directly across the street from the house I lived in at that time. We used to walk across the street and lean or sit on the railings of the track as the horses ran by. We would also walk around the stables and look at the horses. It is a small world. I bet some of my older siblings may know of the Rutherfords. I seem to recall that the Rutherfords were an athletic family. I actually went to school with a Keith Rutherford for several years, but that was in Claremore. For reference, I am 40 years old, almost 41 and I have six older brothers and sisters. If you are still in contact with any of them, ask if they know of the Peaster family in Claremore. My dad used to own a TV, appliance, and satellite dish business in Claremore. He still owns a mini-storage in town.
  3. I have heard of some Rutherford's from Inola, but I don't think I know any of them. I may very well have passed their place many times along highway 88 as Claremore is north of Inola. Was their ranch close to Tiawah? Was the race track the newer one east of Claremore or was it a long time ago when it was in town at the old farigrounds?
  4. Of course, Inola is 10 miles from Claremore. I have some Inola friends. How do you know of Inola?
  5. My high school is out of state. It is the Claremore Zebras (red & white).
  6. What if after the midnight bells ring and Prince Charming is making his rounds, and the glass slipper actually fits the Lumberton shoe? What are you all going to say then. I will be attending the game with cautious optimism. I hope the Raiders win, but would not be surprised if it got ugly either.
  7. They all can't go to in-state schools because there are too many athletes in Texas. I'm from Oklahoma and am a huge OU fan, and have to say that Oklahoma doesn't have the quantity of athletes that Texas does because of population. Therefore, we must go out-of-state to recruit. Also, some in-state kids just don't want to go to the in-state schools. Texas and A&M will always get their share of great athletes. Most often the college coaches make or break a team by their ability to teach and motivate.
  8. I think the lack of football at any school is wrong, whether it is in Texas or Oklahoma. Boomer Sooner!
  9. I'd have to run for a seat in either the House or Senate and write legislation to impeach.
  10. I disagree. I think each sport contributes to create a well-rounded athlete. I played football, wrestling, track, and baseball in high school. Why do some professional football players take ballet or some other extracurricular activity? It helps with footwork, strengthening other muscles that you don't use in football. Wrestling was my main sport but I loved football the most. Wrestling got me in better conditiong shape than anything else could ever do. Also, I don't think a coach or athletic director has the right to require a student to participate in an extracurricular activity for a particular sport when it is not the season for said sport. If a kid wants to play another sport he should be able to.
  11. I'll be there to see some good wrestling.
  12. Hey Zedd, It was good talking to you last week. I will try to make it to the matches on Saturday. I can't promise anything though since my wife wants to visit my sister this weekend in Friendswood.
  13. I too would like to see much more interest in this area. I still keep up with wrestling back home in Oklahoma. My brother is the head coach at the #1 ranked team in Class 4A. Myself and two of my brothers wrestled and my oldest brother has a heavy interest watching and keeping up with my other brother's team. We wrestled ever since we were old enough to participate. My son is going to start wrestling this year in the youth club in Beaumont, but they haven't started practices yet. The will be working out at the West Brook wrestling room. You may have heard of it being from Ney York, but my brother's team will be wrestling in the biggest high school tournament in the country called the "Beast of the East" at the University of Delaware in Newark, DE on December 16th anad 17th. Sixty four of the best teams in the country will be there. It oughta be a good thing to see.
  14. Zedd, Evidently you are in the know for wrestling in this area, and seemingly Texas in general. What is your wrestling background? I know wrestling in the northern counties of Texas, especially Amarillo and border area to Oklahoma have had wrestling for years. It is just surprising to me that it has never filtered down to the rest of the state until recent years.
  15. Not many outside of the houston metro area. In Beaumont there is Central and Westbrook. It sure would be nice for other schools to add it to their athletic programs. I have to tell you, there is not a tougher sport than wrestling.
  16. I know the rules weight is an issue in Oklahoma as well. My brother is the head coach at the #1 ranked class 4A team in Oklahoma and they will most likely be affected by the new rules. I am not really familiar with the new rules though.
  17. I know wrestling is not big in this part of the country yet, but it is somewhat disappointing that there aren't more schools that are incorporating wrestling into their athletic programs. I guess I got spoiled on it in Oklahoma since I started when I was 5 years old and nearly every fields a team. I think that more schools will get wrestling when the youth programs start to develop in areas where it is lacking. Beaumont has a youth program that is on the ground floor, and has the potential to really get going. My son is seven and will be starting to wrestle this year and I hope by the time he gets older that Lumberton will have a team.
  18. Anyone have a feel for how well Central or West Brook will be this year?
  19. Lumberton pulls it out with under 2 minutes left.
