  1. It's that time of year again. Time for the Liberty faithful to start telling us all about how they are going to dominate this season. How many district games did the Panthers win last year....? I think they managed to beat Shepherd twice, but was that it? Maybe it's the same folks who pumped up the LHS football team with so much district championship talk earlier in the year. Now with the football team at 0-3 and out of the playoff race, I guess it's time to start talking about hoops... Good luck, Panthers.
  2. Final was indeed 55-44 Diboll. Jacks clinched it with a fumble recovery in the end zone with about 30 seconds left.
  3. Thanks for the info. Things should start looking up for the Wac pretty soon. Best of luck to them!
  4. Not to sound ignorant here, but who is Ben West? Where's he been previously?
  5. You know 'em and love 'em (or love to hate 'em ), but who do you say talks the most smack without having any reason to on this board? I'm not talking about the genuinely good teams -- this is about the fans whose teams who, for example, have not played a playoff game since Hitler was a corporal but are going to "win it all" this year?
  6. I just saw on the UIL website that 22-3A is getting a new school in its basketball district next season. Anybody out there know anything about Kingwood Park? Will they be able to knock off any of this year's Big 3 of Coldspring, Splendora, and Cleveland? If they're pulling from the same talent pool as Kingwood High, watch out, 3A....
  7. Silsbee destroyed Cleveland in bi-district, and Cleveland beat Coldspring by 14 once in their district. Looks like Silsbee ought to coast easily...
  8. It's in another thread further down. Beckville-Splendora Grapeland-Woodville Big Sandy-Coldspring
  9. Did anyone happen to get the final score of the Liberty-Shepherd game from Tuesday night? I heard that Liberty won, but I've been unable to find the score...
  10. Coldspring 61 Splendora 55 Splendora vs Cleveland for second place later in the week
  11. Coldspring 80, Cleveland 78 One of the best high school games I've ever witnessed. Cleveland hits a 3 with 30 seconds left to tie, and then Coldspring gets a layup with 5 seconds left to get the win. Back and forth game, lots of lead changes, playoff atmosphere -- this one was a classic.
  12. Coldspring (8-1) at Splendora (7-2) -- District title's on the line in this one. If Coldspring wins, they sew up the first-round bye. If Splendora wins, these two will play again later in the week to break the tie. Tarkington (5-4) at Cleveland (6-3) -- This one might as well be called a playoff game, since there's no tomorrow for the loser. If the Horns beat the Indians again (beat 'em by 14 a couple weeks back), then they will qualify as the league's third playoff representative. If Cleveland wins, then they will be third, unless Coldpsring beats Splendora. In that scenario, Cleveland and Splendora would have a playoff to decide who's the runner-up and who's third-place in the district. Shepherd (0-9) at Liberty (1-8) -- Liberty's one district win came in Shepherd. Can the Pirates return the favor? Either way, both these teams' seasons come to a merciful end Tuesday night.
  13. Cleveland (6-2) at Coldspring (7-1) -- Coldspring again is involved in the big game of the night. The Trojans clinched a playoff spot with their win over Tarkington Tuesday night. Cleveland needs a win to eliminate Tarkington and clinch a spot of their own. Cleveland handed Coldspring its only district loss two weeks ago, 84-70. Liberty (1-7) at Tarkington (4-4) -- Tarkington's playoff hopes depend upon three things: 1) They must beat Liberty, 2) Coldspring must beat Cleveland, and 3) The Horns must beat the Indians in Cleveland next Tuesday. Liberty showed signs of life with a narrow defeat in Splendora Tuesday night, but they are still out of the playoff picture and just playing out the season. Splendora (6-2) at Shepherd (0-8) -- The Wildcats get an apparently easy warm-up for their showdown with Coldspring next Tuesday, in which they will likely be playing for a share of the district title. Shepherd's seniors would love to win their last game on their home court, but it's going to take a pretty big upset to get it done.
  14. Liberty's gym is pretty darn loud. It's not all that big or fancy, but just a few people can make a serious racket in there.
  15. Tarkington (4-3) at Coldspring (6-1) -- The big game of the night. Coldspring will finish with three tough games in a row (Tarkington home, Cleveland home, and at Splendora). If the Trojans win this one, they will clinch one of the three playoff spots. Tarkington will be playing for their lives, as they hold their playoff fate in their own hands. The Horns still have a chance at the district title, but they must win out over Coldspring, Liberty and Cleveland to have a shot. Liberty (1-6) at Splendora (5-2) -- Liberty may have folded up their tents for the season after a 30-point shellacking on their own floor against Cleveland. Splendora has two cakewalks (at least in theory) against the Panthers and Shepherd before the finale against Coldspring. That game will likely have district title implications one way or another. Shepherd (0-7) at Cleveland (5-2) -- Cleveland appears to be hitting their stride after beating Splendora and blasting Liberty in their last two games. Shepherd's closest game in 22-3A was a 3-point loss to the Indians the first time around, though...
  16. Current Standings: Coldspring 5-1 Splendora 4-2 Tarkington 4-2 Cleveland 4-2 Liberty 1-5 Shepherd 0-6 Friday Night Games: Splendora (4-2) at Tarkington (4-2) -- Last time Splendora won a nail-biter over the Horns, 46-43, at home. Now they must go to the Prairie for another big game in the district race. Since a pair of tough losses to the Wildcats and Coldspring on back-to-back nights, Tarkington has reeled off three straight wins to get back into the race. Coldspring (5-1) at Shepherd (0-6) -- The two San Jacinto County schools go at it again. Coldspring won big last time, but the Pirates would love to throw a kink into the Trojans playoff hopes. Cleveland (4-2) at Liberty (1-5) -- Cleveland is due for another "down" night if they continue their trend of alternating good games and bad in district. Will they be down enough for the Panthers to have a shot?
  17. Thanks, 12! I worked hard to wrap my brain around that one! ;D
  18. WOS fans -- you've just gotta live with some ribbing right now. Your guys made it to Austin last year, and they were a big favorite to make a return trip (which still isn't out of the question, by the way). Of course there are going to be those who are happy to remind you of your slip-ups. Other folks -- You might be taking a little too much delight in the Mustangs' apparent underachievement. As I've said before, it's all about getting hot at the right time, and if WO-S gets into the playoffs, there's no telling what could happen. Experience is a big factor when it comes to postseason play.
  19. I feel pretty confident that if HJ outscores everybody they play in the playoffs, they have a pretty good shot at winning it all.
  20. Splendora 61 Cleveland 69 Tarkington 48 Shepherd 33 Liberty 73 Coldspring 89 Updated Standings: Coldspring 5-1 Splendora 4-2 Tarkington 4-2 Cleveland 4-2 Liberty 1-5 Shepherd 0-6
  21. If anyone's at these games, post us some scores and info on this thread tonight. Every night from here on out is a big night!
  22. [glow=red,2,300]Current Standings:[/glow] Coldspring 4-1 Splendora 4-1 Tarkington 3-2 Cleveland 3-2 Liberty 1-4 Shepherd 0-5 [glow=red,2,300]Tuesday Matchups:[/glow] Splendora (4-1) at Cleveland (3-2) -- First matchup was an 18-point Wildcat victory (52-34). Splendora gave up 67 points to Coldspring Friday night, which is way above their district average. Cleveland seems to play well every other game so far, and they lost Friday, so they're due for another good game. This week is big for the Wildcats, as they follow up the Cleveland trip with a visit to Tarkington on Friday. Liberty (1-4) at Coldspring (4-1) -- Trojans won by 3 in Liberty (71-68) to start district. Coldspring's win over Splendora Friday vaulted them back into a first-place tie. Panthers picked up first district win Friday night in Shepherd. Tarkington (3-2) at Shepherd (0-5) -- Tarkington picked up a huge win Friday night against Cleveland (72-58) to plant themsleves right in the midst of the playoff race. Shepherd is still looking for their first win, but could definitely play a big-time spoiler's role down the stretch.
