  1. Shepherd lost to Tarkington. Evidently, there is no such thing as an easy opponent as far as they are concerned. Splendora may not be as good as they have been the past couple of years, but this week, they don't have to be. Wildcats 38, Pirates 6
  2. Maybe "crying" wasn't the correct word to use, but boy, have I heard too many times about how inferior the Wildcats are athletically from people inside the Splendora program. I'm just saying that after a while, it gets old. We get the picture already - they don't think their boys are athletic...
  3. I wish I had a dollar for every time over the years I've heard someone from Splendora cry about how much more "athleticism" and "speed" that all their opponents have... Is that supposed to motivate their kids somehow?
  4. Just how much of an increase IS that for the JHS coaches? How many classes had they been teaching in the past?
  5. Jasper will be tough again. It seems that every year, Hudson is going to have "the best team they've ever had" or something like that, and then they beat somebody big in predistrict to really get everyone jacked up, but then flame out in district or the first round of the playoffs. This whole district has the potential to be tough, so it should be interesting...
  6. Between Nacogdoches and San Augustine. Good luck, Coach Enloe! The talent level HAS to be higher for you up there...
  7. My earlier post was intended to be a knock on Coach Sutherland by any means. Totally on the contrary, I was trying to say how impressed I was with 1) HJ's staff, who was able to keep things under control when their season was 7 seconds away from being over, and 2) Coach Sutherland's trust in the guys who work with him I am thoroughly impressed and envious. Best of luck the rest of the way, Hawks. I'll be there Friday night to watch you guys again.
  8. What a game... Let me say that I'm not affiliated with HJ -- this is the first time I saw them play since last year at the state tournament. I did notice during the last timeout that HJ's assistant coach was drawing up the final play. This really struck me as interesting that a coach with as much of a history of success as Coach Sutherland would allow one of his assistants to be literally holding the fate of the entire season in his hands. I was sitting on Navasota's side, and you could almost feel the life draining out of their fans as that last timeout was happening. Great play, great execution, and great win, Hawks. Bottom line -- great job of coaching by the HJ staff, and great job of maintaining composure by the Hawk players. Those guys flat-out get it done. In a game like that, you go back to so many little things, like what if Navasota doesn't miss the front end of a one-and-one on their last possession? Also, was Navasota's big man on the floor for the final play? (Someone who was there can maybe correct me, but I don't remember him being out there, and if he wasn't in the game, his shot-blocking presence and rebounding ability could've been big as it came down.)
  9. I saw OF beat Coldspring Friday, and I left impressed with the way they play ball. #11 was unbelievable in the first half -- it seemed like every time he touched the ball it turned into points for Orangefield. The Bobcats are playing as good a brand of team ball as anyone I've seen this season. Don't count them out against Navasota. Besides, the notion of an Orangefield-HJ rematch is very interesting...
  10. How is it that so many people are painting Orangefield as an underdog on here?? It's been widely established on another thread that no 22-3A team stands a chance against 21-3A, right?
  11. Did nobody from Liberty attend this game? I know the Shepherd folks don't check in here, but I thought somebody from Liberty would know this score...
  12. Didn't this thread start off as a chance for the 21-3A fans to hammer the 22-3A fans? How'd it become the "I love/hate Jason Vela" thread?
  13. not that it has any bearing on anything, but did anyone catch the final score of the Liberty-Shepherd game Tuesday night?
  14. Especially now that there are seven teams in Liberty's district. (I'm pretty sure LHS finished ahead of Shepherd last year, anyway...) BUT -- they are playing better ball this year than last year, and anything can happen.
  15. If Kirbyville doesn't win this one, then the upcoming district schedule looks pretty bleak for them.
  16. I'm thinking something about pride coming before a fall.... Silsbee had to feel pretty sick last year watching HJ win it all and knowing that they had the Hawks dead-to-rights in Huntsville last year. I would imagine they're pretty hungry. Great win over TCH, but don't think for a second that 21-3A is going to be a cakewalk.
  17. Coldspring 63 Liberty 59 (OT) Lib: Jeremiah Brown 17, Steven Guillory 16
  18. Liberty beats Hemphill Coldspring beats Leggett, 69-36 Liberty vs Coldspring, Friday at 2:00
  19. Did anyone ever get a final on this game from last Friday?
  20. Does anyone know anything about the new Kingwood school joining the district. I understand they'll only have freshmen and sophomores, but will they be competitive in this district?
  21. OldTimer -- I'd like to publicly apologize to you. Your posts are always well thought-out and fair, and I shouldn't be downing your guys based upon the posts of a few other people. The posts on the previous page of this thread about the Brown kid being "unstoppable" just sounded too much like some of the talk I heard prior to last season on this board. I'd like to see the Panthers do well -- Coach Jackson is a good man. I guess I just prefer to see a team get it done on the hardwood before all the talk about how good they are comes along. Again, I'm sorry for painting all Liberty fans with one large brushstroke. Best of luck this season, and I look forward to reading more of your posts.
  22. Liberty's folks can't talk any more smack about the district title or even about making the playoffs, but they can enjoy two weeks of wins over Tarkington and Shepherd before heading into the offseason.
