Im thinking they are about equal this year and its gonna be a great game... i just hope they can both bring home the two trophies in December.

Why is this even a thread? I would like to see his sons take over Newton's talent though if he ever decides to call it quits, but i doubt thats anytime soon

I wish Newton and Kirbyville could choose to move back up to 3A, because there is a big talent difference in teams like Newton, Kirbyville, and Daingerfield. these teams are forced to play inferior teams for such a long stretch of the season during district and the early playoffs that I dont think they ever live up to their potential. Just my opinion... and if no one thinks these teams could face 3A talent then they should look ten years back when it was Newton vs Daingerfield in the 3A dII title game.

The number 11 you are talking about is Kelvin Bennett I believe. One of the fastest high school players I have ever seen by far, and still loves contact.

Silsbee by a bunch... This would be a fun game to watch JJ run around and put on a performance... a man among boys.

There has not been much talk about Barbay's team. Undefeated and number 4 in the state. Is it because everyone just simply expects nothing less? Win after win, they are putting together one of those special seasons. It seems like every year they are locked and loaded with special talent. Gotta love a school with that much tradition and a program that dependable.

watch out what you wish for. I do agree though. I wish I could have seen them play each other too. Jasper vs Newton would feature a LOT of talent on the field at one time

After thinking about it, Newton is coming off of an off week, so I doubt they will be as polished as they were 2 weeks ago. That being said, instead of a 40 point win it may be more like 14 or 20 point win.

It may be a close game, but Nederland has more depth athletically and they should win... but thats just my opinion

Yeah that silsbee game being close may have hurt them, but in a couple of weeks people will realize that Silsbee is really a good team with athletes everywhere. Barely beating silsbee is not anything to be ashamed of. Jasper needs some votes... its not like anybody else behind Gilmer could have played them any closer.

Diboll is very fast on the offense side of the ball but their defense looks more like spectators than anything else. Jasper should win by a lot but i see the final score being something like 62-30.

I sympathize for Woodville. At least they always have a good baseball team.

I dont know many players, but Newton's middle linebacker (#23) is really impressive and seems to be really smart on the field. He is only a freshman i think, so he probably isnt the best this year, but he will definitely be one to watch in the future.
