  1. I do not know why a game would be scheduled that early unless there is a long travel time or no lights, with another possibility that this week alot of teams are playing 3 games and they want the kids to be rested for the game tomorrow. Also if you think Tuesday is a school night and it would be good to have early games for the kids so they do not spend the rest of the week tired and trying to catch up. Football is Friday only the kids have the whole weekend to recover. Only good reasons me as a coach can think of.
  2. As a high school coach its great for us bc for some reason that idea of hr's has drifted into the high school game. We stress defense and then hitting and we r very successful. Dunn prob needs to work harder in the offseason, but if you would have seen him a few yrs back he had a cannon. He prob needs to get arm strength back bc poor offseason. He was a high school qb at New Caney who had the chance to play pro football or baseball and choose the one where your career can be longer than 5-8yrs. Kinda sounds like a prison sentence lol.
  3. To some extent, only difference mainly is the amount of weight being lifted. In football you may lift heavy weight and low reps in baseball you lift lighter amounts and get heavier in ladder form. I never have been injured due to lifting but I have sen the gus who did not lift get injured more often. You should still get stronger in baseball, during the season cut back a little on reps and weight but the main goal is maintain and possibly gain a lil strength.
  4. Guys lifting weights should be done yr round. The fact is they are not going to get hurt lifting weights when done right while playing ball. I lifted atleast 3 times a week while in high school and college and it made me a millions times better. Weights are a neccessity not an option in my opinion. When done right the kids will benefit from it.
  5. Dunn is not that bad of a defensive prescence especially when he played rf. That man has a cannon. Baseball in America has gone to offense, there are not many 5 tool players anymore. It has gotten to where we throw the non athletic kid that cn hit in the outfield (i.e. Carlos Lee, Manny, Berkman for a lil while, Bonds at the end of his career.....the list can go on. We no longer see the athletes of old but guys focused around hitting and there games are not well rounded anymore. There seems to be a select few guys in the pros that hit and play defense well. I mean ppl think Jeter is a great SS, he leads the league in errors for a SS most of the time. A nation that looked up to Babe Ruth had no place other to go than to this point. Tampa Bay proved the fact last year good defense and timely hitting with a little pitching gets you to the series. I am just a young guy looking at the mindset of guys my age in the pros, what would I know. lol
  6. The Classic goes into their season, and that could be a problem with their teams. You think this is the way these guys make their living and they are risking injury if they do this. We have seen them get banged up out there already. I love the Classic but it needs to change somehow with scheduling or something to get the real Team USA in it.
  7. When I got to college I added velocity I threw consistantly upper 80's to low 90's and could reach back and throw mid 90's. Kids in high school need to work on hitting spots then start adding velocity. 92-95 right down the middle will get crushed later on down the road.
  8. Velocity...smelocity..." Hit a spot, get an out"......and I quote. That is what every coach loves to hear right there. In baseball alone you don't have to be throwing 90 to be a great pitcher you need to mix it up and keep hitters off balance. I threw mid 80's in high school way back when in 4a and it proved to be successful enough to let me play college ball.
  9. You never know their coach may be playing for a playoff spot. He may throw his ace in games that he is supposed to win, and throw the #2 or 3 against teams that the game could go either way. I am not from either place, just a former baseball player and someone who loves the game. Whatever the case goodluck to both teams. Evadale seems to be putting the pieces together early which makes them a dangerous team to play.
  10. This surgery is the best surgery to have for a pitcher. Most come back throwing harder than they did before. It will be a hard road ahead, but with some hard work and dedication it could pay off big for him in the long run. Keep your head and fight through the pain, hope of hearing about ya in the future.
  11. Sabine Pass run ruling Leggett by the 5th
  12. Yeah we went from having one of the best farm system pitching to crap when Tim came along. Now we have to wheel and deal to get some players by signing free agents, and try to get it back to where it should be.
  13. Yes I said classless. I have been on both sides as a coach and an umpire. Yes West Sabie was stealing and squeezing up atleast 12 and that is just disrespecting baseball. I have been around the game 22 yrs, which is not that long I know, but there are hidden rules of the game. One of them is do not steal or squeeze up more than 8-10 runs. It will come back to get the Coach and the bad thing is the kids will suffer. The kids from West Sabine were good people, nothing against them Diamond. Diamond you were right he inherited a very good team, when it comes down to it he is young and later it will come back to haunt him. Oh I heard you guys got a great Assisstant this yr., maybe he can take over the head spot.
  14. He is better offensively, defensively, and can call a better game than Towels and Quintero. Why would we not want a person like this. Ausmus not getting that out of his staff is what I am still wondering myself. Maybe Ausmus was just not assertive enough or the young guys were not willing to learn I dunno. All I know is I would take Ausmus as pitching coach. Maybe they could just put him in the bullpen as the bullpen coach. Who knows with the Astros, we didn't make a move on Peavy the yr he had 20 wins we took Jason Jennings I believe. All I want is a good GM.
  15. Pudge is a great stick and defensive presence. No ragging on Ausmus please, he has the ability to manage a ball club right now. I believe that is what they were stating by saying his veteran experience. He should have worked with the catchers bc the Stros pitching staff shakes off the young guys too much. Maybe Pudge will be the guy who gives our pitchers some confidence that he can run the game behind the plate. Maybe we won't trade him if he is producing like we always do.
  16. Any given day any team can win. I love baseball and respect it enough not to say this team or that team will win. Buna should win this game but the fact is you when it comes down to it you never know what will happen. If Buna thinks they are gonna win by throwing their gloves out there it could be an interesting night. Kountze is a team that will make others pay for mistakes. If Buna plays like they are capable they should go home with a win, if they don't Kountze can pull out an upset. All I can say to both teams is keep your mind on the game and let your play do your talking. "Walk tall and Carry a Big Stick"
  17. I tell u this much, a good weight program will put weight on you. When I was a Jr. in high school I weighed 155, when I came back my sr. yr. I weighed 190. My summer consisted of me waking up taking Creatine and Ripped Fuel, lifting weights for an hr., and then I worked at a pool so I swam atleast 2-3 hrs a day. My coach ask me when I came back if I took steroids, but all I did was work my butt off because I wanted to get better and play college ball which I did. Yes drugs are very prevelant but just because you heard doesn't mean its true. I am now a coach and if I had the funds I would test every athlete. Some schools actually are and its awesome. There is alot of pressure in sports and our kids think the outlet to these things are drugs and alcohol.
  18. That is a sad story. Fans and media humiliating him like they did shows nothing but the fact America is getting worse. We have resorted to disrespecting people to make ourselves feel better and become popular with our peers around us. This could ultimately be the demise of our nation.
  19. I don't care much for McGinnis. I umpired a game and he squeezed up 12 or 13 runs on a team last yr. It was a classless move in my book. I am not trying to be mean but a lot of kids are losing the sense of wining and losing with class. I don't mean to be offensive to anyone but have some dignity for the kids on the losing side of the ball.
  20. That is the sign of good teams take advantage of the other teams mistakes. Timely hitting proves to be the thing that wins games. Alot of people saydefense wins games but timely hitting provides to be the thing that wins a game. I remember Scott Kazmir in high school would lose a game 1 to 0 due to a wild pitch because his team could not score a run. I believe both teams will be strong at the end of the yr. Does West Sabine still have the same coach?
  21. What happened in this game bad pitching, errors or just a great display of hitting? Just curious bc I know both teams had great pitching last yr.
