HOOPSGIVING CLASSIC: PREVIEW PDF Print E-mail

Rcs Sports inaugural "HoopsGiving Classic" presented by Nike  Wednesday, November 21, 2012 @  Second Baptist HS.  In conjunction with the holiday spirit, this event brings in the Thanksgiving season with a six pack of very competitive showdowns.

All fans are asked to bring new or laundered coats, jackets, or blankets to the front entrance of Second Baptist HS during the "HoopsGiving Classic".  These items will be donated to the George McClellan Foundation and distributed next month in a city-wide project titled, "Covering the Community".  There are a countless amount of students in our area who will be entering the Winter months without a proper fitted coat.  Plus, there will be dozens of families who have slept near space heaters or with ovens turned on at night.  This is a very dangerous practice which have resulted in catastrophes.  Your donated coats or quilts will keep students warm and help save lives!  For more info or to donate items, call Erwin McGowan 713-385-8693, send an email to:  [email protected]

1pm  Second Baptist (7-1)  vs  Cleveland (TX)
The host Second Baptist Eagles will tip off the event against the area's #2 ranked 3A squad.  Cleveland is located about 40 minutes north of Houston.  The Indians' football team was eliminated from the playoffs this past weekend.  That means the hoop squad should be in full throttle.  This is the perfect tone setter for an afternoon of fantastic basketball.
Rcs Prediction:  Cleveland by 9

2:30  St John's (2-0)  vs  HCYA (7-1)
Heralded junior Justise Winslow leads the defending State Champs against the Home Schooled State Champs feat. Justin Jackson.  This landmark game will pit Greater Houston's #1 and #2 eleventh graders against each other for the first time.  Surely you don't want to miss this showdown!
Rcs Prediction:  St John's by 4

4pm  Clear Springs (0-2)  vs  Dallas Triple A  Academy (2-0)
The top 1A team in Texas will travel to Houston and test their talents against the very balanced and productive Clear Springs Chargers featuring Texas A&M Corpus Christi recruit Jeff Beverly on the block.  He has missed the first two games against Manvel and Spring HS with an injury, and is set to make his season debut.  This game will also provided a platform for the nation's #5 soph King McClure and Jared Evans to go head to head.
Rcs Prediction:  Clear Springs by 2

5:30  North Shore (2-0)  vs  Westfield (5-1)
In addition to Baylor recruit, Jonathan Motley, North Shore has pretty good chemistry and is consensually one of the Top 5A teams in Texas.  Westfield earned 3rd place at the McDonald's Texas Invitational this past weekend.  This very talented roster includes Kansas State bound Wesley Iwundu and James Harrison (New Orleans).
Rcs Prediction:  North Shore by 1

7pm  Westside  (4-2)  vs  Episcopal (1-0)
Episcopal is one of the state's top 3 private school teams.  Floor general Ken Williams Jr (signed with S. Alabama) is the spark-plug for the Knights.  Plus a pair of front court members - Brandon Williams (UT-Arlington) and Kendall Ramlal (SFA) have inked with D1 schools as well.  Westside is fresh off a 2nd place finish in the Silver Bracket of the McDonald's Texas Invitational.  The trophy was earned despite District 20-5A MVP Robert Hatter Jr, yet to play this season (hand injury).  This proves the Wolves are much more than a 1-man-band.
Rcs Prediction:  Episcopal by 7

8:30  Yates (1-1)  vs  Beaumont Ozen (2-0)
This game features the state's #1 3A team who are seeking to bounce back to their winning ways after the recent loss vs #1 Travis HS.  JC Washington is averaging 18.5ppg / 13.5rpg for the Lions.  The Panthers are unbeaten, quick and welcomes the addition of three key football players after their season ended this past weekend.  Both teams have majority underclassmen players on their roster.  There will be a very interesting battle between Greater Houston's top sophomore point guards, Jo Jo Anderson (Yates) vs Jordan Hunter (Ozen).
Rcs Prediction:  Yates by 16
