For the second straight season, the Port Neches-Groves Indians made their fans a little nervous by dropping the first two games of their district 20-4A.  But again, after the second loss the Indians would not lose another district game and would secure yet another trip to the playoffs for this storied high school football program.  This year, Coach Brandon Faircloth will be charged with one of his younger squads...only nine starters return from the 2011 squad, but he is ready to lead the Indians to another playoff appearance.

2012 Offense

Offense: Multiple/Spread
Returning starters: 4

The PN-G offense will see a number of new faces, primarily at the skilled positions as only four starters return from last year's squad.  Stepping in to run the Indian spread offense will be senior A.J. Smith, who although he has seen very little action on the varsity level (2-2, 19 yd in limited varsity play last year) is getting the interest of a few colleges.  Among those who will be stepping in to carry the running load will be senior Spencer Wommack ( 13 carries, 71 yd, 1 TD in 2011).  Leading the Indian receivers will be junior Logan Chipman (1st team all district, 33 catches, 353 yd, 4 TD in 2011).  He will be joined by junior receiver Jeremiah Rose and senior tight end Tim Clopton.  The Indians do return experience on the offensive line in senior Justin Reasons (2nd team all district in 2011) and juniors Alan Sorriano and Chris Mangini.

2012 Defense

Defense: 3-4
Returning starters: 5

The Indian defense will also return five starters on defense.  Up front, senior Josh Riley will be called upon to lead a line which should also include newcomers senior Steven Mangini and junior Austin Milan.  Returning starters Dalton Peveto and Logan Warlick will anchor a linebacker corp which will also include senior Dillard Youngblood.  Senior cornerback Kaleb Clark (2nd team all district in 2011) will team with fellow senior Dillon Hebert to provide the backbone of the Indian secondary.

2012 Key games

Port Neches-Groves will begin the regular season in Silsbee on August 31st with another 21-3A team, West Orange-Stark, visiting a week later.  The Indians will host Lumberton on September 28th to begin district 20-4A play.  Nederland crosses the railroad tracks for the annual Mid-County Madness game on October 19th.  The Indians will finish the regular season in Livingston on November 9th.

png should be decent defensively.if the d-line can gel they could be pretty darn good.the offense has a lot of ??? but the offensive line isnt one of them.they will be solid on the o-line.if a few skill players step up png will make its 4th straight playoff appearance.

Personally PNG will have a very balanced team on both sides of the ball. The D will be better than last years IMO. AJ is a very good QB and can sling the ball. Great receiving core to toss the ball too this year. Running back is small but very fast and quick. Should be another great season for the Indians.

Scooter, you are like a broken record. Since there are four teams from this district going to the playoffs, I'm willing to bet that PNG will be one of them. Would a friendly wager be in order? I'll bet you a platter of 50 Buffalo Wild Wings that PNG Makes the playoffs! How about it?

Yeah, and Coach Faircloth's first year here was going to be a "rebuilding" year.... ::)
talent was already in place, just wasnt utilized correctly before he got there.
Very true statement. Well.... Do we have a bet or not?

My prediction, 7-3. (Maybe 8-2)
That's about what I'm thinking.
What you thinking on Brenham's season?
Probably undefeated again in district. If you get one loss its by a fluke thing. Seems like ya'll have dominated your district for a while now. You know better than we do about the teams in your district. You always have those 2-3 teams that just keep it close.
Good luck this year, hope all stay healthy and injury free.

    • No chance in hell that this pos is found guilty.
    • After his silly conviction, President Trump has raised over 200 Million dollars!  The people are seeing through it!  Excellent!
    • Let’s see if joe biden’s words about no one is above the law, made after the rigged trial of President Trump, rings true with his po💩son.  Hopefully, but I’m not going to hold my breath, they put the sorry sob in prison.
    • I liked his no bull crap attitude. He was a man of very few words. Extremely strong and freaky athletic!!! As close as possible to being the best offensive lineman to ever play the game. I hope his family finds peace without him!!! RIP #73
    • Chester, a small town in NE Tyler County.  A town that is seeing growth with the addition of a national chain store and a new school being built.  If you travel 287 toward Dallas from the Golden Triangle you have probably passed through Chester.  Things tend to stay pretty consistent and it is your typical small town.   A trip to state is the buzz around town, and the talk before church services begin on Sunday.  This year’s graduating class will number 11.  We don’t have a radio station that covers the Yellowjackets.  We are never a lead story on any of the news stations that broadcast to our community. With all that said, there is a closeness and sense of pride in our community.  Every community rallies behind their kids as they progress into the playoffs.  We are proud of our boys as they have represented our community well and with class. We invite you to follow our boys as they go to state.  We welcome the greater SETX communities as honorary Yellowjackets.  Tune in, watch live or come to Round Rock personally and join us in supporting the Chester Yellowjackets.  Go ‘Jackets!!! ⚾️💜💛⚾️🟣🟡⚾️💜💛⚾️
