[size=12pt]2011 was a season of vast improvement for the Cleveland Indians which allowed Coach Clayton Maple and his men to meet the goal of returning to the Class 3A playoffs.  This year's Indian squad will be looking to get several on the offensive ball up to speed and will likely rely on a veteran defense to make the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Returning starters: 2[/b]

Change will be coming as Cleveland will join the list of teams operating from the spread offense.  Only two starters return to tool the new offense. Junior Chris Taylor (43 carries, 313 yards, 3 TD in 2011) will step in to be the trigger man for the new offense.  Junior Josh Kelly will return to anchor the offensive line.

Unlike the inexperience on offense, the Indian defense will return nearly intact as eight players return from last year's squad.  Leading things up front will be junior linemen Kevin Strong (2nd team all district pick in 2011) and Todd Daniels will lead things up front. Junior Shannon Stuckey (2nd team all district pick in 2011) and senior Jesus Selvera will be featured in the Indian linebacker corp.  An experienced secondary will be key as junior Deon Baldwin (2nd team all district pick in 2011) will be joined by senior Deon Fleeks, junior Donte Dixon and junior Jaquincy Pillot.

Indian fans are in for a treat as they open in the 2012 season at Provot Umphrey Stadium at Lamar University when they face Kirbyville on August 30th.  Cleveland begins their district slate against Tarkington on September 28th.  Key district games include Huffman Hargrave on October 12th and Coldspring-Oakhurst on November 2nd.  The Indians end the regular season in Shepherd on November 9th.

They had a good season last year, is Cleveland football on it's way back? Still have 2 very tough teams in their district to contend with in Coldspring and Huffman.
