Let's have a little fun!

Being lucky enough to live in East and West Texas in my life, I have observed a few similarities, and a few differences.

Here's a little taste of my running list:

West Texas has dust/East Texas...red dirt
West Texas...Mesquite trees/East Texas...Pine trees
West Texas...oil wells/East Texas...natural gas wells
West Texas...stock tanks/East Texas...ponds
West Texas...cattle ranches/East Texas...chicken farms
West Texas...town every 50 miles/East Texas...every 10 miles
West Texas...fire wood/East Texas...pulp wood
West Texas...Walmart/East Texas...Walmart
West Texas...14 point bucks/East Texas 11 point bucks
West Texas...dove and phesants/East Texas squirrels and racoons
.....actually squirrels and racoons....West Texas...road kill/East Texas...dinner

West Texas...Town & Country and Allsups/East Texas...Kidd Jones and Polks
West Texas...Concrete Slab/East Texas...Peir and Beam
West Texas...multiple RV sales lots/East Texas...multiple trailer home sales lots
West Texas...HEB Grocery Store/East Texas...Brookshire Bros.
West Texas..."heart"/East Texas..."speed"
West Texas...Tombstone/East Texas...Deliverance
West Texas...Football is king/East Texas...Football is king

Those of you that have experienced both, what have I missed?

this is gonna be fun  ;D
[/quote] NOW On too Football  ::::  I think the biggest differance in West Texas and East Texas is not so much the speed but the number of talented atheletes. They reload in East Texas and it takes a special class at West Texas schools. At the state game last year the speed of Carthage did shock Graham the first half, but as the Game went on dicapline and better fundamental play showed for Graham.Carthage and Graham lost about the same amount and look where they are and where Graham is.Next year it whouldnt surprise me for B-Wood not to make the playoffs and Carthage to be right back in it till the end.

Having coached in both EAST and WEST Texas, I would say that on a week to week basis, West Texas teams are better.  East Texas teams may have the best individual team most years, but they also don't have to buck up and play in a war every week.  Just my opinion.

Forgot about the Jack Rabbits, and Horny Toads, (and way back then) the evaporative A/C's.  Don't know if that was the norm for East Texas but still see some when I make it back home.

Evaporative A/C in E. TX--no way.  We pump the water OUT of the air here, and it's still humid.

    • Sure.  You reassign an employee and they leave voluntarily instead of being fired and being open to litigation.  The outcome is the same, but you are making my point.  The superintendent and AD and principal are all empowered to make personnel decisions.  Instead of accepting the decision made, you talk about lawyering up, no one else was reprimanded, railroad job.  I am old enough to remember when high school sports taught life lessons...accountability being chief among them.
    • I know absolutely nothing about the situation, but I do know head coaches of sports other than the AD have actual teaching assignments, and I know from my wife having worked in the sped department of multiple schools that it’s not uncommon at all for coaches to shirk those duties.  It could very well be that this was the case at BC.  Or not, I don’t know.  Just bringing this up to point out the fact that, although many coaches only want to worry about coaching, they generally have several other responsibilities at the school.  some of them neglect or ignore these duties entirely.  If he’s been written up for other issues before, it’s a dumb argument to say “he was punished for this and others were not”.  If he had a pile of write ups in his file and they did not then it makes sense that the punishments were different.
    • He wasn’t fired, he was reassigned and people get reassigned all the time. If he was actually fired, then you would have a point, but he wasn’t fired. Based on the information presented here no way this would stand if they fired him and he lawyered up.
    • I heard the assistant was going to get this job and assume it was referring to the old Vidor coach, Nate Smith.  I always thought he did more with less at Vidor and can't help but think he shares some responsibility in Vidor's recent success.
    • Classic Bridge City.  Always someone else's fault, refs/umpires cheated, AD with an agenda, yada, yada, yada.  As far as I can tell it's damn near impossible to get fired at these schools so when someone does get fired, it's usually something.  Drama at Bridge City is a constant.  The guy did a good job coaching basketball and I'm sure he'll continue that somewhere else.  Time to move on.
