For the record..... the officials were from the Houston Chapter at Vidor's request.  They were as horrible as the Vidor fans have described.  Mostly terrible "no calls" on both sides. Obviously, the Houston chapter didn't send their "A" team!  (insert your own disparaging comment here!) The Pirates are small and inexperienced but they will definately get after you and play hard to the end. They will continue to improve throughout the year.  Kudos to both teams for keeping their cool on the field with some "trying" circumstances inflicted by rogue zebras!

Well put Swampy.... I must say the Ref was atleast 85 and slower than frozen molasses and the side judge on Vidor's side line was so adhd that it was almost funny... I do not think he saw a snap the entire night he was always looking at either the scoreboard or the ref...

Vidors offense is horrible ! You guys were down by 17 in the 4th Qtr and tried to do long sustaining drives and all you were doing was eating up the clock
I guess it depends on who is running the clock or not running the clock or when to start a play, end a half, figure out if it was a fumble or not, blow the whistle to kill the play, no lets pick it up run in for a score, no start the clock, no dont start the clock, is it time for my viagra yet, did i leave my keys in the car, its definatly past my bed time.  I think you get it.  Since we have played both WOS and BC.  Make your stupid predicions before that butt kicking comes your way.   >:( I'll get this figured out >:(  If the post looks ADHD thats the point Card.

Vidor fans have made more excuses than i have ever seen or herd in my life. just cause there embarrassed that they got blown out by a little 3 a team. the officials where terrible for BC too y'all just aren't paying attention when y'all guys where holding ours not to say we weren't holding either. Another thing BC's secondary is the strongest part of our defense so we wont mind if teams try an throw on us. Vidor threw like 8 passes maybe one was completed 2 picked off.
Look there are a couple fans from every team that make excuses no matter what! When you start a post with Vidor fans that covers the whole fan base. Look back through my post and find where I blamed an official for our loss. Quote the person that made the excuse and debate him.

Evidently there are some fans, BC and Vidor, that don't realize that the Slot T offense that Vidor runs is first and foremost a run oriented offense.  Throwing the ball is not going to happen more than a very few times a game.  It is a ball control type offense and is not conducive to playing catchup when the other team opens a two or more score lead.
It helps when your defense can keep the other team's offense off the field and can come up with a few 3 and outs.
Vidor would have had to basically change offensive philosophy mid-game and that usually doesn't work so well.  You saw the results, one completion, two ints. including the late pick six.  (Although the first int. was an ill conceived halfback pass and was not thrown by the QB).
Would a more balanced, but still run-oriented attack work better?,  I think it definitely would and I would be surprised if the coaches don't work on the passing game a little more.
However, don't look for the spread to be instituted at Vidor.
Finally, last night, it wasn't the offense that was the problem, I believe it had almost 300 yards.  You have to be able to stop the other team and get your offense the ball.
Very well said! Offense has not been our problem the last couple years it has been defence. Just look at the offencive numbers versus what the defence gives up, Bottom line is no matter what offence you run if you cant stop the other team more than they stop you your gonna lose.

Very well said Riggins and Bridge City took full advantage of that.  Defense wins championships and we just dont spend any time over the last couple of years to get that part of the game up to the Slot T offense we run.  If we can get our defense  going the slot T the way we run it will be fine.

If you can't pass the ball, you can't defend it either... The refs blew calls on both sides of the ball, and the tackling was horrible. We are a very young team as well. BC came to play and put it to us, point blank. Vidor got to the playoffs last year for the first time in how long?.... I'm just saying it's time for a new playbook.

PS I quit playing football in high school because of Mathews coaching style...

Vidor runs the wing t? Correct if I'm wrong
Vidor runs the slot-t. Just not very successfully against Bridge City it seems.
I know everyone is hammering the offence and I think we should open it up a little more but lets be real here. When we play teams that wont punt the ball from midfield because they are confident that they can get a first down on our defence you tell me where the problem is. This is the same offence that racked up pretty good point and yardage totals last year and we had the same problem we couldnt stop anyone.

I don't Blame the lose on the refs I think BC played a great game.. They played good D and opened the play book up unlike vidor.. :ALSO (IMO) I think that there needs to be some sort of weight limit to REFS on the field for their safety.. Correct me if I'm wrong But don't college refs and pro refs go through some sort of physical test?? I think the UIL or whoever needs to adopt that..!

Bridge City, Menard thump Vidor

Gabriel Pruett CNHI

BRIDGE CITY — BRIDGE CITY — Bridge City coach Cris Stump told a lot of reporters and fans this offseason Matt Menard would do fine as the new quarterback of the Cardinals.

Menard keeps on making Stump look like a smart man.

Menard and the Cardinals dismantled the visiting Vidor Pirates Friday 31-13 at Larry B. Ward Stadium.

“He is pretty good,” Stump said of Menard. “Nobody was believing me when I said he can do it and now he is making me look pretty smart.”

Menard rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown and was 8-for-15 passing for 134 yards with a 31-touchdown strike to Cameron Dishon.

“That’s a big win,” Menard said. “ It has been a long time since we were 2-0. It feels great to bring Bridge City back the way it used to be and how it should be.”

The Cardinals got off to a quick start Friday with two touchdowns before the end of the first quarter.

The first touchdown did not take long as Menard ran the opening kickoff back 49 yards down to the Pirates’ 41-yard line. Four plays later Hunter Clark found the endzone from 25 yards out and Devin Bertrand made it 7-0 with a PAT.

Bridge City struck again on its next possession for a second touchdown. Dishon hauled in a 31-yard touchdown reception from Menard. Dishon was untouched down the middle of the field until he dove for the endzone. Bertrand’s kick made it 14-0.

Dishon had five catches for 105 yards in the game.

“Cameron makes it pretty easy to be a quarterback,” Menard said. “What makes it even easier is our offensive line. Those guys give me great protection. I never feel hurried in the game.”

Vidor’s rushing style proved to be effective all night, yet it meant the clock continued to roll in the second half as Bridge City led 17-7 at the break.

Menard scored the Cardinals’ first touchdown of the second half, this time as a running back.

Colby Carpenter was under center with Menard behind him as a running back. Menard was too tough to bring down and scored from a yard out. Bertrand made it 24-7.

Vidor started its next drive with 6:14 left in the third and did not score until 11:20 remained in the game.

The drive was 15 plays and ended with Brentyn Clark scoring from five yards out. Jacob Jeanise kicked the PAT to make it 24-14.

Josh Ozio all locked up the game for Bridge City with a 48-yard interception return with 59 seconds left on the clock.

Clark had scored the Pirates’ first touchdown. It came in the second quarter and was a 10-yard run. Clark led the Pirates with 94 yards rushing.

Even though Vidor rushed for 294 yards, the Cardinals defense was flying around the field and hitting harder than any Bridge City team seen in the last four years.

“Our defense is hitting people and the best part is they are young,” Menard said. “They are young and now they will keep building on this win. I am glad I’m on their side because I don’t want to go up against those guys.”

David Smallwood also found rushing success against Bridge City with 12 carries for 79 yards.

The Cardinals travel to face Beaumont Kelly next week while the Pirates are on the road at Kirbyville. The Wildcats defeated the Newton Eagles, 41-6 Friday night.

last year we ran the slot t extremely well we averaged more than 300 yrds a game. this year is a little different im afraid. the offence needs to be changed to something that can be run by the kids this year. last year we had HUGE line, and the 3 out of the 5 top backs in the district! thats why we ended up in the playoffs last year. with only 3 returning starters, they are trying to run the same way we did last year and im afriad it aint gonna work. idk i might be wrong but thats just what i think

well everyone knows the slot t is a run first system and, it works when you have the right personal to run it. Last year Vidor had the perfect personal for the slot t. This year Vidor does not have the size for the system and they will get pushed around most of the year. If you watch most teams that have a solid program they run a system to fit there personal. The option system that Vidor did for so many years would not be a bad system for the team you dont have to block the down lineman the qb reads the tackle then the end. All i know is dont expect much out of the Pirates this year and by the way did anyone else see the nose tackle for Vidor maybe 140 soaking wet. I bet png and all the other teams in district are licking there chops seeing that

Yeah, Vidor's nose tackle is the smallest varsity player at that position,(or any defensive/offensive line position), that I have ever seen, I estimated his weight to be 135-140 also.
