Can someone explain in layman's terms exactly what a power rating is & What it means...I got a general idea,but not sure on some of it...I need the great football minds out there and I know they are many.. ;D

When it comes down to it, it is just a ranking.  They use the word "power" to try and intimate that their rankings are somehow more accurate.  But on one site I saw, the phrase power ranking when in actuality was the same vote of the site staff like we have here.  That poll needed some more "power" as they had a school in one of their polls which was not even in the right classification.

I was thinking the single most factor came from strength of schedule over a period of time tacked on to a perticular coaches winning % + the number of starters returning.

Some do use a mathematical formula that claims gives them more accuracy, but in the end it is just like a vote, a guess.
