dayton watches alot of pitches. bettter hope chance finds his control

He's been pretty solid since returning to the mound.

0.0 ERA in a long relief outing against King (6.2 innings) and 2 or 3 innings against K Park.

But yes, his control has been an issue.

Thats what good teams have to do is play as a team and do whatever it takes to win.  Good team win and the defense is playing really well right now.  From here on out playing the better teams in the district you will need different kids to step up every ballgame.

Patriots take the fifth, win over Broncs

Dayton pitcher Kameron Jones had a no hitter going until the bottom of the fifth inning against Goose Creek Memorial Tuesday.

Good times – for the Broncos. But not for long.

Dalton Going’s double to left field touched off a huge fifth inning that the Patriots rode to a 6-1 win over the Broncos.

GCM improved to 14-8 overall and 5-4 in District 19-4A play.

Going scored on a single by Pats’ designated hitter Alex Gonzalez to tie the game 1-1. Three batters later, Chance Czerwonka hit a three-run double to bring home Gonzalez, Jacob Wilburn and Andrew Valencia to make it 4-1 in favor of the Patriots.

Price Jacobs then hit a two-run homer to give the Patriots the 6-1 lead, the final runs of the game.

“Those (the Broncos) guys will shut down a good hitting team fast,” head coach Chris Rupp said. “I felt like after a couple times through, someone would get in there and hit a big one, and finally, Dalton (Going) got that double, then it was like it was contagious.

“Then Chance (Czerwonka) picked it up, with the bases loaded, and got a big double. That kind of opened it up. That was huge for us.”

Czerwonka gets credit as the winning pitcher after allowing one earned run and throwing eight strikeouts.

“The thing about those runs, too, is that they gave Chance (Czerwonka) a big lift. He was sitting there, pitching his tail off in a 1-0 ballgame, and if you pitch that well, you’ve got to win. We’re in the position we are now because we’ve lost some close games and wasted some good pitching performances.

“Boy, it was looking pretty bleak there for a while. Good hitters will figure it out eventually, and fortunately, that’s what we did.”

Friday the Patriots will hit the road to take on the Crosby Cougars.

“We need to go to Crosby, and steal one there,” Rupp said. “If we can do that, it will be a big help there.”
