Talent can make an average coach look good
So, could below average talent make a good coach look bad?
initially......it could

Hopefully a good coach would establish a history of improvement.

Talent can make a coach look real real bad too. Look at the football coaches at Ozen all that talent and can't make the playoffs in their district? That makes the coaching look terrible IMO

Either they're lying or there are 80 treally desparate people looking for a job.

Really, well it is clear you did not go to HF, at least our Academic standards are good and most of our Kids
know the correct spelling for the word " really ".
Maybe I didn't, but mine was a typo - however, apparently you aren't familiar with capitalization rules - did you go to HF?

Rather than pointing out an obvious typo, Hornsfan86, you should've pointed at the misspelling of desperate. Even a dumb rube from Silsbee caught that.  ;)

Why is it so hard to believe that 80 coaches would apply for this job.  Up until recently, HF has always put a competitive team on the field. They may not have won but have been competitive until the last few years.  The right guy can turn the program around.  You've got to get all of the ends tied together to be successfull.  It is not going to be easy but it can be done.

I agree, this is an opportunity for a coach to get some great recognition for turning the HF program around and bringing them back to what they used to be

Anyone know the name of the applicants ? If so , please post!
The names of the applicants are considered a matter of public record and you can call administration to request them.  They can then give them to you, tell you they don't have them, or tell you they have them but don't want to give them to you.  If they choose the third option and you continue your request, they must ask the attorney general for a ruling and give a reason not to give you the names.  This process takes 4-6 weeks, and by then the hiring should be done.  II don't know if anyone has or wishes to actually request the names, just explaining what the process is.

Hope Price (former Barbers Hill) is on that list! Would be a really good fit. Bet Haynes from Hardin is on it, too.

Ex-Barbers Hill coach Price applies for H-F post
By RYAN S. CLARK

Former Mont Belvieu Barbers Hill coach Don Price is one of 90 applicants that have applied for the vacant athletic director/football coach position at Hamshire-Fannett, the district said this afternoon.

Price's tenure at Barbers Hill ended in November when he claimed the district accosted him to resign by agreeing to a $153,000 buyout with nearly a year and a half left on his contract. Price resigned from Barbers Hill with a 99-35 record. He was hired at the school in 1992.

Complete list on Beaumont Enterprise website right now.

Don Price is the obvoius hire off of that list.....

...but...

If HF wanted to get a younger commodity...there is a name on the list that in intriguing.  Nathan Barrier from Groesbeck ISD.  This guys is a prodigy.  Son of Nathan Barrier of Waco Robinson ISD.  Look Robinson's record up during the Sr Barrier's tenure coaching there....very very successful.  Ned has never been a head coach, but he is ready.  He knows football better than any coach I have ever been around.  One of the best, up and coming, offensive minds in the High School game today. He has family in the Hull Daisetta area and coached a few years there in the late 90's and early 2000's.  He also has alot of connections when it comes to assistants.  If he is hired, he will arrive with a very capable and knowledgeable staff, that can be guaranteed. He, at least, deserves a look.

To me, these are the only two real candidates on this list.  They are like night and day, but one thing is for sure, they would both be successful as the head coach at HF.

I have been an avid Don Price supporter through all of his stuff at BH, and even suggested him for this job earlier on when Mangan was first rumored to have been dismissed, but I must admit, Nathan Barrier makes me change my mind.  Barrier should be the man for the job.

Wow didn't think I would see this name on any list in the area:

Danny Malone, Fillmore Central Schools (Neb.)

He was PN-G's coach for 2 years from 89-91.  He had a great amount of success while in Port Neches, and from everything I've seen he's continued that in Nebraska.

And a great coach is adept at realistically assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the players and opponents then capitalizing on them.   Not so great coaches try to put a square peg in a round hole and wonder why it doesn't work.
Well what do you do if you have no pegs square or round but still alot of holes to fill??

    • We'll see. I don't trust us.
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
