Guest mffl Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Pflugerville high has had their share of division-i prospects and this year is no different. 6-foot-3 guard, Demetris Smith is the latest Panther to commit to join a program in the Southland. Smith will once again suit up with a couple of old teammates. Smith will be the third player in the last two years to sign with the Cardinals of Lamar from Pflugerville high. "I went on a visit to Lamar and committed to them," said Smith. "They want me to come off of screens, shoot the three and score." It was more than just the campus and the surroundings that helped with his decision. "Two of my ex-teammates go there. Osas Ebomwonyi and Jonathan Garza are there and I want to go and help them out. The coaching staff is real cool and show how much they care about their players. I feel that I can go in there and help. I'm going to Lamar and do what I do and that's work hard. Smith has worked hard on and off the court and says his plans are simple for the remainder of the year. "I'm going to continue to work hard in the classroom and on the court. I need to keep up with my grades and finish school and then, get ready for college at Lamar." Smith says that Lamar wasn't the only Southland Conference program recruiting him. "UTSA, Sam Houston, and SFA recruited me. It took a few weeks after my visit to Lamar, but it seemed like the place I need to be." TexasHoops ANALYSIS: DEMETRIS is a bouncy and active player who keeps playing hard and pursuing the ball at all times. He has a nose for loose rebounds, tracks them down with his quick feet and is quick and explosive to the rim in traffic. He is a very good slasher who can get to the hole from 15 feet, has a nice mid-range shot and showed a developing and more consistent stroke from the 3 point line this summer. If he can complete his skill set and shot out beyond the 3 point arc, he becomes a tough player to defend with his overall athleticism and energetic style of play.
TexasTerror Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Any of you got further info on SHSU's verbal? Another day, another senior decides on his college future. Byron Randle 6'2 g (Friendswood HS 2010) has picked Sam Houston State as his college choice. This is a nice pick up for head coach Bob Marlin and his staff. Randle recently narrowed his choices to New Orleans, Santa Clara, Tulane, Nevada before opting to go with the Bearkats.

Guest coachacola Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 SLC commits from the Texas Hoops 2010 top 100 rankings: #20 Amos Olatayo (SFA) - is an exceptional athlete who can score at the rim or with his smooth jumper. He has a nice stroke from behind the 3 point line, gets good elevation on his shot and can create his shot and hit the mid-range jumper. He has an explosive first step to the rim, can really elevate in traffic and finish and is a quick leaper to finish versus bigger players. He has a good basketball body, can defend on the wing with his long body and goes to the boards well. #31 Darius Gardner (SFA) - is a true floor leader and savvy player who is always under control and running the show. He can really push the ball up court quickly, sees up the floor well and hits teammates in stride to create easy scoring opportunities. He will knock down the open 3 point shot but doesn’t look to score first, plays with a lot of energy and has very good and quick hands on the defensive end. He is a natural leader on the floor and keeps the team under control and playing with toughness. #43 Byron Randle (SHSU) - is a slashing and athletic scorer who can really get to the rim off the bounce and in the open floor. He has the size and strength to finish in the paint, goes to the hole under control and can dish it off to the big men in traffic. He is a good shooter with 3 point range, has a smooth and easy stroke and can create his shot and pull-up for the mid-range jumper. He is a good ball handler and passer, has a solid basketball build and has a good overall feel and understanding of the game. #56 Demetris Smith (LU) - is a bouncy and active player who keeps playing hard and pursuing the ball at all times. #71 Stuart Lagerson (UTA) - is an ever improving post man who has made major strides in his game over the last 12 months. He is very long and rangy and constantly changes shots in the paint. He is rail thin but has the skills and footwork to be a nice player with added weight and strength. He runs the floor well, is fundamentally sound in his rebounding and positioning on defense and appears to be soaking up the game with each time out on the floor. He is still two to three years away from reaching his potential as his offense develops and his body fills out but the last year shows he is a player to keep an eye on. #77 Darius Harris (LU) - is a quickly improving paint player who made huge strides in his game over the summer. He is a very adept scorer in the paint, finishes well around the rim, has a soft touch and moves to the open space to get easy finishes and putbacks. He works hard on the boards, holds his position well on the block and keeps his feet moving. He will challenge shots in the paint, runs the floor hard and works on defense. #98 Darius Richardson (UTA) - own threes in bunches, has a high release on his jumper and can catch and get his shot off quickly. He moves well without the ball, has a good understanding of the game on the offensive end and handles and passes it well from the wing. He has a strong body and will use it to compete on defense and on the boards. http://texashoops.rivals.com/viewrank.asp?ra_key=2057
Guest coachacola Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 ESPN has Nuno Muandumba coming to Lamar in 2010. With Hall, Nabors and Nwevo as the only seniors on the team then Coach Roc is probably done with the 2010 recruiting class. As others have already mentioned, Nuno Muandumba had citizenship problems and couldn't attend Lamar this year. He's now playing at Westwind Prep Academy along with a 7-footer from Bejing China. http://vanderbilt.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=976600
