Hard fought game by both sides. LCM has no reason to hang their heads, great ballclub that will do well in the post season.........

If ANYBODY had ANY doubts about Josh Deans capabilities though, they sure were answered tonight. Had good stuff and when one got loose, Babino went to work.  Bellow was Bellow !!!!! Great relief outing.

Need to stay hungry and finish this thing up. Its right there within reach...........

dean pitched a gem, his breaking stuff was good. kirby came in a closed the deal. the dogs are playing solid baseball, the defense is the best i've seen from the dogs in the past couple of years.

the offense might not be where they want it, but the pitching staff is going to keep the game close along with the defense.

Nederland outlasts Bears, 4-2

NEDERLAND — Behind five strong innings from starting pitcher Josh Dean and two dominate innings from Kirby Bellow, the Nederland Bulldogs held off the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears 4-2 on Monday night.

The Dogs scored four runs on for hits off LC-M's Shane Waddell in the first inning. Nederland would go on record three more hits but the only ones that mattered came in the first.

The Bears finally got to Dean in the fourth inning, as the senior right hander seemed to be running low on gas. Dean started the inning by striking out Matt Johnson for a second time but then Taylor Thompson reached first on an error. Two batters later, with two outs, Wade Estes drew a walk to give LC-M runners at first and second.

Scott Vaughan then singled in Thompson from second on a bloop fly ball to right field. Dean got out of that inning when he forced Waddell into a ground out to third, leaving two Bears stranded. LC-M left seven runners on base for the game, including one in each of the fifth and sixth innings.

After Thompson cut the game to 4-1 in the fourth, Stefan Cloeren got the Bears going in the fifth inning with a two-out double, LC-M's fifth and last hit of the ball game.

Cloeren moved to second on a walk and then two wild pitches from Dean brought the senior shortstop around to score, trimming the game to 4-2.

Dean started the sixth inning with walking LC-M's Stefan Leger, who led the inning off. That's when Nederland head coach Cody Robbins decided to bring in Kirby Bellow, who struck out the first two batters he faced and then induced a fly ball for the final out, leaving Leger stranded at first.

Bellow retired the Bears in order in the seventh, claiming two more strike out victims before completing his second save of the season. He struck out four total and did not allow a hit or a base runner in his two innings of work.

Dean received the win. He allowed five hits, walked three and struck out seven. Only one of the two runs on his watch were earned.

Dean and Bellow also had one hit apiece with both hits coming off LC-M reliever Taylor Thompson, who took over for Waddell after the third inning. Waddell suffered the loss. Although he continued to struggle with his location, Waddell's only trouble came in the first.

Jordan Pitts started the Dogs off in that inning with an infield single that went off Waddell's glove, tricking Vaughan at second base.

Pitts moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and then Nick Cardenas singled back up the box to score Pitts. Trey Terracina then reached on an error and moved to second after Jude Vidrine drew a walk.

Still with one out, Vidrine and Terracina (the decisive run) each scored on a single by Cody Laird.

With two outs, Trevin Sonnier provided the Dogs with their fourth hit of the inning but it proved to be fruitless, as Waddell caught Dean looking to end the inning.

Sonnier was the only player for either team to record multiple hits. He singled in the sixth inning with one out and then moved to second after Stephen Schlett drew a walk with two outs.

Nederland left both those runners stranded. The Dogs left six on base for the game.

Nederland struck out seven of the 10 batters who made a plate appearance on Monday. There were 11 victims overall and only two spots in the order that did not go down on strikes. Thompson, Waddell and Brown, who replaced Waddell in the lineup, were the only players to not strikeout. Thomson picked up the Bears first hit, which came in the second inning with one out. Wade Estes added a second hit in that inning but that one came with two outs and then Dean got a grounder to short to end the threat.

With the win, Nederland improves to 13-7 overall and a District 20-4A best 9-1 record. The Dogs, which have won eight straight, also completed the season sweep over the Bears with Monday's victory. Nederland will travel to Beaumont to face Central today at 4:30 p.m. and then will meet the Lions in Livingson on Friday.

LC-M, meanwhile, falls to 8-2 in league play and will play host to Livingston today and then head to Vidor on Friday.

The result of Monday's game may very well have decided the district champion, something Nederland has not done since 2005. There are just four games remaining on the season and Nederland has already beaten everyone left on its schedule.

Sports Junkie you must not have been a bulldogs fan long. they had a tougher district last year .Last season every team could beat each other.they also had a lot better pitching around the district.the 2006 team was better than this team and last year team was better Cody just didn't know how to play the kids.the 2005 was also better.you must have a child on this team.Oz en,Video and Central were a lot better last year because they had good pitching.Even Lumberton was better.We had Dayton in our districtand they were also better than Livingston.So you think about what you say before you open your mouth.
