WO-S' Robinson, Franks make All-State unit

Van Wade

The Orange Leader

West Orange-Stark defensive end Kevin Robinson and recevier/return man Trey Franks were selected to the Second Team Texas Sportswriter’s Association All-State Class 3A Team that was announced on Wednesday.

It marked yet another honor for Robinson, who was a First Team All-Stater on the Texas Sports Editor’s Team released earlier this month. Robinson was also the recent winner of the Willie Ray Smith Award as Southeast Texas’ top defensive player.

Robinson led the Mustangs with 107 tackles, the first defensive end to ever do so in school history. He also notched seven sacks, 10 quarterback pressures. He caused four fumbles, recovering two and also blocked five kicks.

Franks was selected as a kick returner. He averaged 16.8 yards a punt return and had a touchdown and also averaged 33 yards a kickoff return and brought one of those back for a score. He was WO-S’ leading reveiver for the season, catching 34 passes for 605 yards and five TDs.

The Mustangs also had two Honorable Mention selections in defensive lineman Stephen Cook and linebacker Robert Jiles.

The only other District 21-3A player to make the squad was Hamshire-Fannett guard Sequoia Harry.

Carthage running back Dwight Smith grabbed offensive player of the year honors

The 220-pound Smith, who led Carthage to the Division I state championship, rushed for 2,820 yards with 41 touchdowns. He rushed for 1,345 yards in the playoffs with 23 touchdowns, including 267 yards and five scores in the title win over Celina.

Giddings defensive back Xavier Daniels earned defensive player of the year honors. The 170-pound Daniels had 85 tackles and 15 interceptions.

Prosper’s Kent Scott grabbed coach of the year honors.

Several Southeast Texas products made the Class 2A TSWA list.

Newton linebacker Mike Jenkins made the Third Team along with Kirbyville offensive tackle Robert Burge.

Making honormable mention for Kirbyville was quarterback Aaron Hazlewood; wide receiver Randy Musgrove and offensive tackle Frank McMickell. Also making the list were Newton running back LaRay Alford and wide receiver Stephen Alfred; Anahuac running back Deoir McNeil, defensive lineman Robert Boykins and linebacker Cameron Mitchell; and Hardin running back Mitchell Villemez and linebacker John Stelly.

    • No chance in hell that this pos is found guilty.
    • After his silly conviction, President Trump has raised over 200 Million dollars!  The people are seeing through it!  Excellent!
    • Let’s see if joe biden’s words about no one is above the law, made after the rigged trial of President Trump, rings true with his po💩son.  Hopefully, but I’m not going to hold my breath, they put the sorry sob in prison.
    • I liked his no bull crap attitude. He was a man of very few words. Extremely strong and freaky athletic!!! As close as possible to being the best offensive lineman to ever play the game. I hope his family finds peace without him!!! RIP #73
    • Chester, a small town in NE Tyler County.  A town that is seeing growth with the addition of a national chain store and a new school being built.  If you travel 287 toward Dallas from the Golden Triangle you have probably passed through Chester.  Things tend to stay pretty consistent and it is your typical small town.   A trip to state is the buzz around town, and the talk before church services begin on Sunday.  This year’s graduating class will number 11.  We don’t have a radio station that covers the Yellowjackets.  We are never a lead story on any of the news stations that broadcast to our community. With all that said, there is a closeness and sense of pride in our community.  Every community rallies behind their kids as they progress into the playoffs.  We are proud of our boys as they have represented our community well and with class. We invite you to follow our boys as they go to state.  We welcome the greater SETX communities as honorary Yellowjackets.  Tune in, watch live or come to Round Rock personally and join us in supporting the Chester Yellowjackets.  Go ‘Jackets!!! ⚾️💜💛⚾️🟣🟡⚾️💜💛⚾️
