Early Preseason ranking for upcoming Baseball season

Preseason Top 20

1. Cuero – 7 starters return from 32-4-1 Regional Semifinalist Team. Sr P/IF Jennings Boothe (.458), Jr CF Tyler Arndt (.438), Sr OF Troy Ruiz (.417), Sr C Jake Rangnow (.415), and Sr 2B Chance Harryman (.404) all made a 2008 All-State team. Return #2 and #3 pitchers Boothe (10-2, 0.97, 77 K’s) and Sr. P/SS Ross Goebel (7-1, 2.17).

2. Taylor – 7 starters return from 26-10-1 Regional Finalist Team. Sr P/OF Eric Brooks (2.18, 109 K’s) was an All-State Pitcher. Sr SS Dalton Marek, Sr 1B Jake Farr, and Jr C Dillon Pfluger are other key players. Return top 3 pitchers.

3. Longview Spring Hill – 8 starters return from 24-6 Area Round Team. Sr C Ryan Small (.441) was 2nd Team All-State Catcher and led 3A in doubles (20). Sr P Garrett Methvin (9-3, 1.71, 115 K’s) was 15-3A MVP. He and Sr P Jake Fudge (8-1, 1.48, 48 K’s) return as a strong 1-2 pitching punch.

4. Bullard – Return 5 starters from 19-8 Regional Quarterfinalist Team. Sr OF Charlie Moore (.455, 3 HRs) was 3rd Team All-State. 14-3A MVP Sr Jacob Whatley (10-2, 1.63, 85 K’s) and Jr Nick Rumbelow (9-2, 0.52, 101 K’s) are another powerful pitching duo.

5. Robstown – 5 starters return from 21-14 Regional Quarterfinalist Team in 4A. Sr OF Ryan Velasquez and Sr UTL Ruben Elizondo are key players. Return #2-#5 pitchers from ’08. Made the playoffs 20 consecutive years at 4A level.

6. Giddings – 7 starters return 22-11-1 Regional Semifinalist Team. Jr SS Ty Marlow (.495, 6 Hrs, 37 RBIs) was 3rd Team All-State. Jr P/OF Trey Masek and Sr P/1B Zach Berry were #1 and #2 pitchers in ’08.

7. Sinton – 6 starters return from 30-7 Regional Finalist Team. Sr P/SS Josh Rodriguez (.568 Avg, 6-1, 1.00 ERA) was 2nd Team All-State in an injury-shortened season. Jr SS Shane Segovia (.444. 5 HRs, 37 RBIs) should have impact at both the plate and on the mound.

8. Bellville – 8 starters return from 16-12 Area Round Team. Sr P/OF Joe Tallerine was the 23-3A MVP in ’08. Bellville had the best pitching staff in 23-3A and they return all their pitchers. Sr P/3B Garrett Huebner and Sr 1B/P Kyle Mueller were the #2 and #3 pitchers and Tallerine was the ace.

9. Texarkana Pleasant Grove – 5 starters return from 25-8 State Runner-Up Team. Sr P Michael Wacha (13-3) was an All-State Pitcher. Jr P/3B Jon Phillips returns as the #2 pitcher.

10. Pittsburg – Return 8 starters from 23-12 Regional Finalist Team. Sr P/OF Jared Duncan (.535, 10 HRs) was a 1st Team All-State OF. Pittsburg also returns 4 of its top 5 pitchers include their #1 and #2 pitcher.

11. Bridge City – Return 6 starters from 26-7 Regional Quarterfinalist Team. Jr P/IF Matt Hicks (7-3, 1.79, 107 K’s, .340. 5 HRs). Jr IF Joe Robertson (.426)

12. Celina – Return 9 starters from 18-7 team. 2nd Team All-State Sr P/SS Troy McCartney (.417, 5 HRs, 33 RBIs, 5-3, 1.37, 68 K’s). 3rd Team All-State Sr CCharley Waldrep (.377). Top 2 pitchers return in McCartney and Jr Ryan Merritt (4-3, 2.06, 75 K’s).

13. Princeton – Return everyone from 14-9 Bi-District Team. Sr C Nick Naudin (9-3A Offensive MVP). So IP/P Josh Molina. #1 Pitcher Sr Jake Abbott.

14. Kennedale – Return 6 starters from 24-4 Regional Semifinalist Team. Sr 1st Team All-State 3B Brady Capshaw (.578, 54 RBIs). Sr SS David Hays (.400). Capshaw returns as staff ace.

15. Prosper – Return 7 starters from 22-7 Area Round Team. All State 3rd Team Sr 3B Tucker Alexander (.485, 26 RBIs). Return top two pitcher in Sr Ryan Williams and Sr Clayton Woodruff.

16. Carthage – Return 7 starters from 23-9 Regional Quarterfinalist Team. Sr SS/P Michael Burchett (.370) 20-3A Co-Offensive MVP

17. Tyler Chapel Hill – Return 9 starters from 14-11 Team. Sr P/SS Dalton Clakely (4-2, 1.61, 54 K’s, .361 Avg). SR P/SS Tyler Clakley (5-3, 1.22, 68 K’s, .333 Avg). Sr P/IF Josh Holley transfer from Gladewater.

18. Decatur – Return 6 starters from 23-15 Regional Semifinalist Team. Sr P/3B Justin Tompkins (.383, 5 HRs, 36 RBIs, 7-4, 2.79, 61 K’s). Sr 2B 8-3A Defensive Player of the Year Brennan Moore (.370, 3 HRs, 38 Runs).

19. Andrews – Return 8 starters from 23-9 Regional Quarterfinalist. Sr P/IF Ryan Diaz (.378, 27 RBIs). Sr P Jesus Saldana (4-1, 2.26, .350 Avg).

20. Orangefield – Return 8 starters from 12-11-1 Team. 2nd Team All-State Sr C Jacob Felts (.500, 5 HRs, 29 RBIs), P/OF Jace Statum (.440 Avg, 6-4, 2.78, 94 K’s).

A lot of perennial powers left off that list just because some teams have a lot of starters back don't mean they will be top 20 caliber.

You're right there were some good teams left off the list, but why "hate" on a fellow OC team, if that's not what you meant then I'm sorry, just sounded like it...The kids from OF weren't the ones that voted on that...It is good recognition for that program and I think coach Bennett realizes that it's just a meaningless PRESEASON poll.

No no no. Could you imagine watching both on the same team???? (Felts and Parker) One catching and the other DH!! Switch off each game or so.

No, I wasn't hating on OF and I do wish them the best, I really have enjoyed seeing Statum and Felts grow into great ballplayers the last couple of years.
