What has happened to Jasper?

Recommended Posts

All the talk was about how great Jasper was going to be after their late season success last year in the playoffs along with how great they were in 7 on 7!  With the Bailey kid playing QB and all those hard summer workouts we kept hearing about and how committed everyone was I felt that this was definitely a promising year for the Bulldogs!

When I saw that Carthage had hung 40 on the 'Dogs in the first half it made me stop and wonder.

What has happened to Jasper football?

It seemed after the hard-breaking loss to 2A Kirbyville during Week 1 along with the hurricane the following week that they have lost their desire to win.  What's up?  Just curious.

Can they turn it around these next two weeks?

hasnt this one been beat to death already.  the jasper experts have already determined that all the blame falls on the coaches.  just as they have in png, lcm, hemphill, west sabine,,,and anywhere else where the experts think they have nfl caliber players with great heart and desire, when in all actuallity they have very average players with very average heart and desire. but good luck to jasper and all the other schools this weekend may they all travel safely.  remember children are our greatest resource.

Carthage is very good, they could easily go along way in the Playoffs.

I realize that Carthage is good.  Very good at that.  I was just wondering about Jasper.  Is there mutiny?  Can Jasper still make the playoffs with two more wins?  I hope they do.

Jasper has officially become a baseball school!!  I think we should go so far as to name our baseball coach as the AD.  Football has become a waste of money in jasper those resources could be better used in our baseball program or soccer program or track even tennis.  Jasper fans should notice the difference in attitude and character between the two programs.

Jasper was a "baseball" school long before it was a football school.  And yes, it is now looking good for Jasper baseball again.  By the way, Coach Mixon's father played on some of those great Jasper baseball teams back in the sixtys.

And who knows what truly has happened to the Jasper program?  Certainly, Gilmer, Carthage, Diboll, and Kirbyville are very good teams.  That does not change Jasper fans expectations.  They expect to win no matter who they play, just as they did almost EVERY year for twenty years under their last long tenure coach.  Or like Newton has done under Barbay since almost forever.  Or like Kirbyville is now doing under Alvarez.

I certainly hope that Coach Brooks gets whatever it is straightened out.  He has paid his dues and deserves to do well.

I see Jasper as a very good 2nd rd team in the playoffs. They should beat Rusk this week and that will seal up their playoff spot. When Jasper almost beat K Ville, I knew they had a special group of guys. They have just got off track a bit this yr. Coach Brooks and all the Jasper coaching staff will make sure their ready for the playoffs.  Good luck Bulldogs

Go Eagles

Yes if they beat Rusk this week they are in.

Will that give Jasper the tie breaker even if they lose to Center next week?

They won't lose to Center.  Center is "trash."

Did not Rusk and Center play a pretty close game?  If Center is "trash", where would that place Rusk?

Center has played some competitive games.  Jasper must take EVERY game seriously or someone will hand it to them.

Please let's not start making differences between the programs. Jasper is big enough to support all of its sports programs.

Center beat Rusk 14-7

There has been a discrepancy of the reporting on this score.  It was first reported widely that Center beat Rusk 14-7, but later reports had it Rusk winning 14-8.  From other posts it appears this is the correct score.

Either way, judging from the score it would appear that both teams will be equally tough for Jasper.

Rusk beat Center.  Both teams are not good.  Jasper should roll!  They will enjoy not playing a Carthage, a Diboll, a Kirbyville, or a Gilmer!

If Jasper beats Center next week they are in the playoffs for sure.

Go Dogs!  A team can have all the problems in the world, then suddenly correct things for the playoffs.  It is time for the Dogs to do that.  What they did tonight against Rusk certainly seemed to be right on target!

With both Bailey and Spikes at WR it is no longer true that they do not have ATHLETES at those positions.  Of course, next week they may move Spikes to QB.  ;) ;D

I don't know that there is much wrong with the Dogs that needs correcting as much as we have just met up with better teams.  I don't care for our offensive play calling but better teams make you look bad no matter what plays you run.  I think we have a great shot at competing in the 1st couple rounds of the playoffs again this year (although Chapel Hill appears to be loaded).

    • We'll see. I don't trust us.
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
