What's wrong with the Baseball academy?

Recommended Posts

I heard the Fair was cancelled because Ford Park is being used as a "FEMA Staging Ground". I wonder if this includes the ballfields too.

My brother is bring my niece in from austin for a state softball tourney this weekend there telling them its a go unless they change at the last minute

We played in the first tourney to make at Ford this fall. It had a total of 6 teams LOL 11 & 12. I hear that alot of the teams are upset with the fact that just because the ONE in charge of tourneys wanted to go Nations that it was cut and dry.  Also that the people in charge of the tourneys has teams that are playing in these same tourneys. Not saying they would get SPECIAL treatment but that is alot of the fear! We are going to Houston playing in USSA tourneys that have 6 to 12 teams in every age.

I feel the low fall turn out at Ford Park had a lot to do with Ike. Not only Ike but many people evacuated for Gustav, which the two storms put a huge financial strain on the area. Another factor;  Louisana has not switched to Nations ,they are still USSSA .Therefor, Ford Park  lost the usual Louisana teams that come over from Lakecharles area. Hopefully spring will  be a different story, it is very nice to play locally most of the time.

no doubt that switching to nations is the reason.. We are playing in alvin against 15 other teams in AA.  Who ever made that decision needs to look harder. They had built up to be one of the premier places to play in all of Tx. now?  I would like to see them list at least half of their tourn. with usssa. and we could see the difference my team is not going nations unless we have to.

Ron Mathis (former director with USSSA) went to Nations Baseball and told all of the tournament directors if they hosted a USSSA tournament than he would not award them with a World Series or State tournament. Most teams are in Nations baseball and some are playing both. Don't look for Morgan to host a USSSA tournament. He makes a lot of money getting the State and World Series tournaments.

I dont think Morgan likes the idea of losing money, the guys in houston that are hosting usssa tournaments are loving life right now because they have never been able to host state tournaments and have never had this many teams.  It looks like their will still be as many tourn. just in different places.  I will be shocked if morgan doesnt host any usssa's after not having any nations make this fall.

Well Im shocked the spring schedule for the academy came out and no usssa tourn's just nations.  I would guess the tourn sizes will be smaller. We'll see i quess.

It shouldn't be smaller tournaments...... there are more teams signed up with Nations than USSSA in the Beaumont and Houston area.  We should still see the same amount of teams as before and probably more since the county is finally fixing the fields at Ford Park.  They would be nice to play on this year.  I just wish they had fields big enough for my son, we will travel every weekend.....

I thought there was talk of building or modifying some of the existing fields for older division tourneys. Anyone else hear that?

They still are talking about doing this......the problem is with the county (Jefferson County anyway) it takes time, and with the current economic situation most if not all governmental bodies are looking at reducing cost right now.  If they had this approved right now it would take at least a year to two before they could be able to play on.  My sone will be in high school by then and we will still be traveling to Houston to play select.  They looked at modifying the existing fields but there is not enough room but for one field.  There are some fields going in in Lumberton that will allow the 13-15 yr olds to play at home and I cannot wait until they have a schedule posted there.

That is good to hear. Lumberton is definitely closer than Houston.

Yes , we would play. Another local option would be a good thing. I would post some tournaments soon, as many teams are planning their entire spring / summer schedules. I will leave some weekends open if this is for real. I manage a 12u team.

    • We'll see. I don't trust us.
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
