Here's last year's ranking for Lamar:

81.    LAMAR (14 Points)..........4 Recruits..........3.5 Talent Rating Average Per Recruit..........Southland Conference.......... (4) Kenny Dawkins, 5'9, PG, Arizona Western (JC) AZ; (4)  Ashton Hall, 6'6, WF, Angelina (JC) TX; (3) Justin Nabors, 6'6, PF, Northeast Mississippi (JC) MS; (3) Brandon McThay, 5'10, PG, Kilgore (JC) TX.

Dawkins was a 4 and he played great.

Hall was also a 4 but due to his injury and slow start he didn't make much of an impact.

Nabors was a 3 and he played great.

McThay was a 3 and he played good.

Brown's not listed for some reason, but that's a 3.5 rating average last year.  But those are all JC recruits.  This year Roc got 2 HS players, and Williams will have 3 years eligibility but will be coming off a major injury.  On the paper this group is disappointing compared to the last few years, but it's possible this group has more upside.

This upcoming recruiting year will be very important.  Lamar's key players will be seniors this year, especially up front, so we'll see how well Roc reloads the team.

That far down is not going to get the job done. people are going to grow restless unless a quality team is put on the floor soon. Coach Roc we all have faith in you, but ina couple of years you'll start hearing grumblings unless LU wins a conference championchip(s)

Tougher road through the west, but are you really going to put stock in these recruiting rankings? Fun to look at, critique, etc...but seriously? You Lamar guys put too much stock into them -- whether you are ranked top 3 or 100+...

i gave up on these recruiting sites long ago.not a good indicator for future success.lamar has been getting better every year but just a little better.im ready to make that jump to mid-major powerhouse but its going to take time.lamar will only be as good as there big men allow them.brown, nwevo, worell, custer and nabors are the keys to our season.dawkins, mcthay, mahoney, williams, and miles will give us excellent guard play.hall, moten and harper will be servicable on the wings.

Seriously, we used to own theses recruiting rankings but look where it brought us. Last year it was good, and we have a good group of guys coming. Brandon Moton can score the basketball with the best of them. He should replace Dhop and CT's shooting. I hear the staff has big expectations for Anthony Miles, the guy is a true scorer supposedly. I don't know much about Charlie Harper or Skyler Williams but we should be fine.

I see Jay Brown doing big things for Lamar next year.

Texas Terror, it is the first part of June. What would you have the forum discuss if not recruiting classes?

SHSU is already gearing up to discuss some football and still looking back at the baseball season that was. We even have an athlete participating in the NCAA championships in track and field -- though, we won't get much talk there (as much as I try).

For Lamar, you guys have anything and everything Cardinal football to discuss. So many subjects, coaching staffs, possible opponents, upgrades to Cardinal Stadium, etc. Figured you'd talk about that left and right.

The MLB draft this week with some possible Lamar Cards.

Well hoopinsider_cooper says Tic Price is joining the staff, but my friend works out with the conditioning coach at LU and Roc was in this guys gym the other day and told my friend that he has high hopes for this season and Miles will be a stud and Jay Brown came on strong this past year during conference and will have more PT with LS gone. And everybody knows J. Nabors is going to step in and give it his all just like Sanders would. I'm looking forward to this year. Still wondering who this third assistant is going to be though.

TexasTerror, right now Woodard is hiring coaches, I'm sure the announcements will be coming during this month and the approval of the construction plans haven't been publicly announced yet...

I guess you are correct. Anyone know when the public meeting of Coach Woodard is? After that gathering we should have a lot more football talk on the forum.

As for the coach staff my OPINION is to have a mix of high school coaching and men with college coaching experience.

Four men I'd love Lamar to visit are 1. Craig Stump 2. Coach Long 3. Coach Peirce 4. Coach Foreman.

Killing the discussion like that? What happened to speculation on this board? You guys are no fun! This is going to be a long off-season unless official news comes out, eh?

Since Lamar's first official football game is still 2 years away there's not much football to talk about yet.  I find talking about assistant coaches boring.  I'm anxious to see all the drawings for the stadium renovations and the new field house.  Will they or will they not have VIP suites?

Until then, talking about basketball recruiting rankings is always fun and controversial.  How good will the new guys be?  This might be a better team than last year's team.  Todd, Barrow and DHop spent the first few months in a slump and didn't start playing well until the end of the season.  Roc just needs a couple of guys to step in and take up the slack.

More importantly, the defense sucked last year, so if Roc can improve the defense then this will be a better team, even if they're not as good offensively.  One other thing, did they move the 3-point line out farther this year?  How will that affect Lamar and everyone else?

Well the the 3 point line sure won't affect KD... he can nail 'em from anywhere.  ;)

And i mean what kind of speculation can we make about assistants... i mean know one really knows this guy so we don't know what kind of guys he's going to go after and I've only heard 2 names from this area being mentioned for an AC job and 1 off this board. Recruiting will get much more talk... and I'm sure there will be some walk-ons who could of been college material... Rim, didn't you say you knew a guy who planned on walking on and was offered by Nicholls out of HS?

Yep, saw his dad tonight. If he takes after his dad athletic ability and his mental toughness, Lamar will land a very good walk-on.

WOS is losing students at about the same rate that Charles Barkley loses $$$ in Vegas.  Pearce (or Peirce?) and Foreman would do fine at Lamar.  Particularly Toby as WR coach, and up the ladder.  Don't forget Coach Crouch and Coach Thompson.  They aren't too old, as some will argue.  They can coach.

Coach Thompson has left WO-S once but I don't see him leaving again. He'll probably be the next HC at WO-S once Coach Hooks retires. If he ever does.  ;D
