Cardinal Relays crank up Friday

The 35th annual Bridge City Cardinal Relays will highlight this week’s Southeast Texas high school track action.

Teams in the field include the host Cardinals, Little Cypress-Mauriceville, Orangefield, West Orange-Stark, Vidor, Deweyville, Beaumont Kelly, Lumberton and Hamshire-Fannett.

The scratch meeting will be held at 1 p.m. and the field events along with the boys and girls 3,200-meter runs will begin at 2 p.m.

The running finals will take place right after the field events are complete.

The following track and field high school athletes have recorded the best performances to date in their respective events among Golden Triangle tracksters in 2008:

BOYS

100 meters: Jeffery Thomas, Central, 10.56.

200 meters: Aaron McCrary, Nederland, 22.53.

400 meters: Justin Krautz, Nederland, 49.72.

800 meters: Justin Krautz, 2:03.0.
