PN-G vs. Lumberton Game Thread

Recommended Posts

Tonights game was a good game for lumberton. Taylor G. scored off an assist by mark brackin. The score at half time was 1-0. The next goal was an own goal by one of lumbertons defenders. Taylor G had another finish up off of johnathon bells shot that shot down from the crossbar. Mark Murrill had a gorgeous shot from about 25 yards out and floated it in the upper left corner. Brent Waldrup dribbled one pretty much all the way to the goal for a 4-1 lead. The whole bench came in with about 5 left in the match. The field was in HORRIBLE shape. Standing water was everywhere on the field. Great win for lumberton.

Lumberton boys 4, Port Neches-Groves 1

NEDERLAND -- Returning MVP Brent Waldrep and defending 20-4A champion Lumberton came calling and took the midfield away from Port Neches-Groves, forcing the issue and winning 4-1 Tuesday at Prather Field.

The Raiders (2-4 and 2-0) of coach Chad Luttrell outshot PN-G, 14-6, and took a 1-0 halftime lead thanks to a goal by Taylor Granato which got past a diving Steven Baque, who managed 10 saves for the Indians.

Waldrep showed his dominance on the night's final goal, taking the ball some 50 yards out and zooming clear toward the penalty box before beating Baque 1 on 1 with a shot into the corner of the goal. That 4-1 lead arrived with 10 minutes to play.

PN-G (3-2-1 and 1-1) tied the game at 1-1 eight minutes into the second half when junior midfielder Justice Lloyd was credited for a goal after his shot deflected off a Lumberton defender. Two minutes later, Lumberton regained the lead when Waldrep and Mark Morrell teamed up to place the Tribe out of position. Granato's fastbreak goal bumped it up to 3-1 two minutes later.

"We had a difficult time with their speed," Indians second-year head coach Don Sandell said. "Their goals were legit. Lumberton was beating us to the ball in the midfield. We lost to a good team."

The Indians will play Ozen on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in South Park's Greenie Stadium.
