2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS

SANTA FE INDIANS

2019 Record: 1-9 Overall; 1-6 District

7th Place in District 12-5A-II

 

The 2019 season was one of frustration for the Santa Fe Indians as the Indians, under first year coach Matthew Bentley, managed 1 victory.  To improve things, Bentley will count on a small group of team leaders (4 starters return on offense, 5 on defense) to help the Indians climb up the District 12-5A-II standings.

 

COACHING

Assistant Coaches: Eric Thompson (Offensive Coordinator), C.J. Cavness (Defensive Coordinator), Jason Harris (Special Teams Coordinator), Joey Cheatham (Varsity/Junior Varsity), Taylor Wulf (Varsity/Junior Varsity), Greg Watson (Varsity/Junior Varsity), Jimmy Fowler (Varsity/Junior Varsity), Sean McKinney (Varsity/Junior Varsity), Jared Faust (Freshmen), Andrew Whittington (Freshmen), Ronnie Wulf (Freshmen), Jonathan Burns (Freshmen)

 

OFFENSE

Four starters return to operate the Indian Triple Option offense including senior quarterback Trevor Trexler.  He will be joined by returning senior running back Tristan Cundiff and senior fullback Paul Hopkins.  Seniors Bruce Erekson, Brad Taylor and Tyler Trexler, as well sophomore Kyeler Thompson will lead the Santa Fe receiver corp.  Seniors Cody Wilson and Joey Gibbs will lead an offensive line which will also feature junior lineman Jarrod Recknor as well as senior Tristen Nabors.  Sophomore Anthony Arcidiacono, senior Brenton Boehm and junior Adam Rose will contribute on the line as well as in the passing game from the tight end position. 

 

DEFENSE

Five starters return to the Indian 4-2-5 base set in 2019.  Nabors will lead a defensive line which will also feature Hopkins, Wilson, Gibbs and Recknor.  Cundiff will lead a linebacker corp which will also feature Arcidiacono, Boehm and Rose.  Erekson, a 2nd team all-district pick in 2019 will anchor a secondary which will also include Trevor Trexler at safety  and Taylor, Thompson (2nd team all-district) and Tyler Trexler at the corner.

 

SPECIAL TEAMS

Special teams assignments will be finalized during preseason practice.
