GALENA PARK YELLOWJACKETS

2018 Record: 4-6 Overall, 2-5 District

6th Place in District 9-5A-I

 

2018 was a big of a struggle for the Galena Park Yellowjackets as the Yellowjackets struggled to a 4-6 record and were left on the outside looking in the 9-5A-I playoff picture.  New coach Spiro Amarantos, a Galena Park alum who comes over from Porter, is looking for to ushering in a new beginning at his alma mater.  However, he realizes that there are some unanswered questions and hopes to answer those questions with twelve returning starters in an effort to push the Yellowjackets into the playoffs.

Assistant Coaches: Ronnie Wigham (Offensive Coordinator), Chris Morales (Defensive Coordinator), John Simms, Steven Botello, Jeff King, Charles Foster, Ronnie Jones, Noe Pena, Justin McNeese, Noe Vela, Chip Houston

Offense:

Eight starters return to the Galena Park spread offense in 2019.  Senior running back Eli Quintero (2nd team all-district) will join the leading candidate at quarterback (which could be Amarion Kelly) in the Yellowjacket backfield.  Senior receivers Patrick Hernandez and Caleb Aparecio will lead the Galena Park receiver corp.  Senior Richard Martinez (2nd team all-district) will lead an offensive line which will also feature junior Ivan Martinez and senior Antonio Alanis.

Defense:

Four starters return to the Galena Park 4-3 defense in 2019.  Junior defensive end Brice Hernandez will lead the Yellowjacket front line.  Senior linebacker Ricardo Garcia returns to lead the Galena Park linebacker corp.  Senior Austin Altwein and junior Antonio Zamora will anchor the Yellowjacket secondary.

Special Teams:

The place kicking and punting duties will be sorted out during summer practice.  Kelly will be the primary kick returner in 2019.

Oct. 25 - Goose Creek Memorial, 7:00 pm*

Nov. 1 - at Porter, 7:00 pm*

Nov. 8 - Houston Wisdom, 7:00 pm*
