WEST HARDIN OILERS

2018 Record: 4-6 Overall, 2-3 District

4th Place in District 12-2A-II

 

The West Hardin Oilers has one of their more successful seasons in recent history as they qualified for the playoffs for this first time since 2008.  New head coach George Taylor, formerly an assistant at Goose Creek Memorial, looks to take the Oilers to even greater heights.  9 returning starters on each side of the ball will greatly assist in the Oilers climbing the District 12-2A-II ladder.

Assistant Coaches: Kevin Anderson (Defensive Coordinator), Mike Tanton, Caleb Hardy, Trevor Morgan, Lin Ellis

Offense:

Nine starters return to the West Hardin offense, which will use multiple sets, in 2019.  Senior quarterback Jake Strahan (1st team offense in 2018) returns to trigger the Oiler attack.  Senior running back Keaton Castilaw (1st team all-district at wide receiver in 2018) and junior back Randon Kelley will share the West Hardin rushing duties.  Senior recievers Joe Leger and Trevor Creel will lead the Oiler receiver corp where they will be joined by senior tight end Russell Payne.  They will be operating behind a big offensive line which will feature seniors Isaac Murphy and Preston Price as well as juniors Ty Gazaway and Billy Messer.  Also seeing time will be senior Cody Brown and sophomores Bradley Thompson and Josiah Berry.

Defense:

Nine starters also return to the West Hardin defense in 2019.  Up front, Defensive end Payne (1st team all-district in 2018) will lead the Oiler defensive line along with linemen Gazaway, Messer and Price. Also contributing big on the line with be senior Cody Brown, who returns from injury in 2018, and sophomores Bradley Thompson and Josiah Berry.

Special Teams:

The kicking and punting duties will be determined over summer workouts while Castilaw will be the Oilers' primary returner.
