Buna has a tough hill to climb tonight against EC. I will say this though, that coach over their in Buna has done a nice job of making that program relevant again.

In my opinion, EC is just too much for Buna. EC wins a very competitive game, pulling away in the final 4 minutes. EC by 12.

Good luck to both programs tonight!

Whitmire is a very underrated coach! His kids always play hard, and are always prepared. Good luck to Buna!

EC is the more complete team and should come away with a hard fought win tonight. However, Buna definitely has what it takes to come up with the upset, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if they go home with the W tonight.

As for the future, Buna is here to stay. Kudos to Whitmire for        resurrecting that program from utter shame just a few years ago. They have 2 freshmen playing major minutes (one of which is arguably their best player), and they will return most of the team, including most of the starters next season (only losing 3 seniors I believe). They also have some good talent at the junior high and freshmen levels that will be moving up over the next couple years.

I believe 23 3A will be the premier basketball district in the state for years to come, with Buna, EC and Kountze battling it out every year. As I said, Buna is here to stay, and we all know that Kountze and EC aren't going away either.

I predict Buna to win the district outright and make a strong push for the state tourney next season.

Have you seen Kountze junior high and JV programs? They are going away and going away fast. They have two underclassmen on the varsity but those two are not capable enough of carrying that JV team, anywhere. It's been a long 20 year or so run, but it's finally come to an end.

Buna, EC, Hardin will be tough going forward. You only had 1 senior on that Hardin team and they were loaded with freshmen and soph.

I have not seen Kountze's underclassmen programs, but I have heard that the future is not bright for Kountze basketball. I guess it is just hard to imagine. I'm not saying that Kountze won't go downhill as expected, I'm just saying that I will believe it when it actually happens. They somehow seem to always find a way to reload, just like Newton in football.

Buna and EC will be fun to watch for sure though. Don't know much about Hardin.....

Kountze will be fine. It will be a down year for Kountze standards. a 20 win season and 2 or 3 rounds deep in the playoffs is what the lions should accomplish next season.  (As long as everybody plays)

That's more along the lines of what I was thinking..... Like I said before, they always reload somehow. I'm sure their ride will come to an end some day, and that may be sometime within the next 4 yrs or it may not be for another 20 yrs, idk. But like I said, I'll have to see it to believe it.

I think it will be like after 07 State championship team A couple of down years and then a state champion contender will emerge

The 08'-10' Kountze teams beat us (Buna) by 40-60 points every time we played them during that span of "down years" LOL. Those were some dark days for Buna basketball....

EC has a very bright future with the players coming up! The 8th grade group has more talent than I've seen an EC class have, and they are very unselfish for the talent level. The freshman group this year is very solid with #21 Davis being the future of EC, he will be very good in the years to come! Look to see a lot from him the next few years.

    • We'll see. I don't trust us.
    • Starting pitching has been shaky the last few weeks due to some injuries outside of Hagen Smith.  He goes tomorrow, so y’all should be fine
    • Manchin may get it but any mention of the radical left that wanted to get rid of the filibuster and end almost 220 years of history because the Democrats are mad?  The House and Senate are obviously different legislative bodies with entirely different election processes and rules for a reason. The House can vote on laws with a simple majority vote. The Senate put rules in place that it would make it much tougher to pass laws. Laws should be difficult to pass. The Senate is often the holdup of the right and left. It takes 60 votes to break the filibuster so any law will almost certainly require agreement at least in part, from opposing sides of an issue. Because they can’t get laws passed, the radical left is like a baby having a tantrum and wants to change over 200 years of history and make it potentially ridiculously easy to pass laws. I have seen current poll maps and it is possible for the Republicans to sweep into complete power in November but by the tiniest margin. That would possibly mean that a single vote margin in both houses could enact what you might call the radical right laws. There would be nothing that the Democrats could do to stop any legislation whatsoever if the left (they are all radical, minus Manchin) got their filibuster rule changed.  That is where the current filibuster comes into play as any new law would require several Democrats to agree with the majority Republicans and vice versa.  Do you want the potential for your radical right to have free rein as the radical left wants by killing the filibuster or is the radical left just as (if not more) dangerous? Let’s see if we have a history in this area? Oh yeah, the Democrats changed the rules in the Senate to allow federal judges to not have to overcome the filibuster. Obama was not getting his federal judge nominations passed and being angry, they changed the rules instead of nominating more moderate justices. They were warned that it would come back to bite them. They didn’t care and chose the nuclear option to change the rules. Oops! Any guess how Trump got all of his Supreme Court nominees passed against strong Democrat opposition? The Democrats got rid of the filibuster for federal judges after another tantrum   So when you are so worried about the radical right, are you equally concerned in what the radical left is always doing by changing rules and history which were put into place just for situations like we are in? So while Manchin gets it, what about his other 50 colleagues (49 + Harris)?  What concerns you more, Abbott and Paxton or the Democrats who want to make it to where if the Republicans do take over, they can go wild… at least in your mind?
    • MODS please remove that ISD twitter link! I had no idea it would copy the whole posting. I only highlighted the portion about the venue change. Sorry about that!
