  1. Obviously, we have Ozen, Central, Nederland, and Livingston getting in from 20-4A. What are the other districts that they will match up with in the first round? I assume one of them will be the Crosby district, but other than that I don't know. I'm hoping none of our teams gets a Wheatley/Yates/Jones type of first round game. Just trying to get an idea of what playoff games we'll be seeing. And while we're on the subject, how are they going to decide who gets second and third in the district? I remember in 2002 West Orange beat Nederland in a play-in game, but that was for a playoff spot, not just a seed. Could we maybe be seeing a coin flip a la Friday Night Lights? If anyone knows, help me out.
  2. Oh, he was there. He warmed up and sat pretty much at the end of the bench. He did not play.
  3. I don't know how you couldn't have been impressed with Ozen last night. This is the first time all year I've seen them play disciplined basketball on both offense and defense. They ran their offense until they got a layup or Franks had an open look and that kid was unconscious last night. Nederland did miss a ton of shots, but sometimes you gotta give a little credit to the defense. It's one thing to shoot over a 5'8 kid from Lumberton closing out on you. It's another to shoot over Willie Jefferson. Saveat took Torres and Hammond out of the game and dared someone else from Nederland to beat him. Didn't and not gonna happen.
  4. You cannot possibly be living in the same Golden Triangle as I do. Cody Becnel to LSU? Travis Hearne to Cincinnatti? The discussion of best player in Nederland history starts with Jaime Weaver and ends with Jaime Weaver. After him you gotta start talking about Corey Loupe, Rick Neely, Kody Becnel (ended up passing on your "scholarship to LSU" and opted to play at Lamar-Port Arthur), and you could probably throw in Chris Hammond.
  5. I don't necessarily know that there is a top 15 players in this district. As a whole the entire area is way down from past years on talent, but here are the top players I've seen from 20-4A (haven't seen LCM, Livingston, or Lumberton): 1. DC Frank- Easily most skilled, talented player around here, but he seems to have fallen in love with his jumper just a bit. Even so, he's still the best player in the district. 2. Gulley- Carries his team night in and night out. 3. Willie Jefferson- He's about as explosive of an athlete as you will find and there is no one around here who should be able to match up to him. If he would put it all together...wow. 4. Breon Johnson- Solid PG that (for the most part) just wins. 5. Chris Hammond- His scoring may be down and he's had a few down games, but this kids been proving he can play for three years now. He may be scoring less, but his squad looks to be winning more. 6. Travis Weathersbee- He's big, a pretty good athlete, and always plays within himself. I consider him the most SKILLED big man in the area. To the guy who listed the two PNG guards in the top 15...YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! 7. Williamson- He can pretty much do everything and he pretty much has to over at Vidor. How many boys are in this family? 8. Dionte Forney- Another big body with a lot of potential. It seems like lately the light has started to come on, but he's a sophomore so I expect some more ups and downs. 9. The freshman at Central (Smith?)- Hopefully the next great one from BMT. 10. Francisco Torres- He gets out in transition and gets to the goal about as good as anyone, but is a very streaky shooter in a bad way. With that said, anyone who drops 43 has gotta get some kinda respect.
