[Hidden Content] Highly touted Texan chooses Rebels February 12, 2011 Chase Parham Staff Writer Cameron Dishon had plenty of information available for three of the four schools he considered making his collegiate home. The Beaumont (Bridge City), Texas, outfielder and 2012 baseball prospect's brother, Johnny Dishon, appeared in 78 career games at LSU before being drafted in the 42nd round by the Milwaukee Brewers. His stepbrother, Tim Ferguson, lettered three years at Ole Miss and was a top-10 round pick by the Kansas City Royals. Dishon's stepfather, Chip Ferguson, played at Rice, and the pressbox at the Owls' home stadium - Reckling Park -- bears his name. So, when Cameron Dishon began to hear from Rice, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas A&M, opinions were easy to find. However, the decision was left up to Dishon and he made it Saturday, following in his stepbrother's footsteps and committing to the Rebels. The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder visited Ole Miss this weekend and informed the UM coaching staff before leaving campus. "It was just a great visit and really fun," Dishon said. "I was looking at the other schools, but the offer was good and now by committing early, I don't have to worry. I can just play the game. "I know my stepbrother loved it there and thinks it was a great experience. I've been to some series and know it's first class." Dishon was recently named to Perfect Game's Top Prospect Team, and the scouting service rates him a 9.5 out of 10. He is a 6.5 runner in the 60-yard dash and hits line drive to all fields. He plays with the Southeast Texas Sun Devils during the summer, a team operated by Chip Ferguson. Current Rebel Tanner Mathis also played with the Sun Devils. During the visit, Dishon took all the tours and saw the academic facilities and the athletic facilities, but it was the way the coaching staff approached him that made the biggest impression. "They just did everything so well," Dishon said. "They made sure I understood all parts of being there, and it was a lot of fun. I was comfortable and really loved it. "I didn't know for sure what I was going to do before the visit, but by the end I knew it was exactly what I want."

Vidor Coach Jeff Mathews Apologizes
ftbbbl101 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I totally agree. Coach Mathews is a passionate coach and emotions run high. Totally agree with apologizing being a big part of being a role model. Mathews is a great guy. But, as Gabe said, I thought nothing more than a coach arguing a call in any sport. Best of luck to Coach Mathews and the Pirates the remainder of the season. -
Should be an interesting game. If I remember correctly, we haven't played Jeff's alma mater since the old days when BC and WO-S were both in 4A. I could be wrong about that though. I'm looking for a strong ground game from our guys. If the line is opening decent holes, it will be a long night for the Cardinals. It all starts with the O-line. First game jitters are over. Our defense should be settled in and ready to apply some hurt this Friday. Looking forward to it, and hoping for an injury-free game on both sides. If we play like the team I know we are capable of being, I call Vidor by 17.
Vidor's Offensive Coordinator, Dwayne DuBois, is also a Bridge City Alumni. It is great to have local guys stay in the area and coach. It must be fun for coaches to go back to their hometowns and coach where they once played. Should be a good night for the "CARDINALS". ;)

Great post MIF. It is so frustrating to read all the bashing of an organization that does so much for the young men who play Baseball for the Sun Devils. Thanks for all you.
