1. Barbers Hill has high hopes, strong team By Dave Rogers The Baytown Sun Published December 8, 2009 MONT BELVIEU — John Chancellor has high hopes for this Barbers Hill’s girls basketball team and they don’t all hinge on 6-foot-4 Kendall Shaw. “If teams double up on Kendall, we’ve got the shooters around her that can make you pay,” he said. “We don’t have any one person for another team to focus on.” The Lady Eagles open District 19-4A play tonight when they host Crosby at 7 p.m. Goose Creek Memorial plays its league opener at C.E. King, also at 7 p.m. Barbers Hill is coming off a 26-10 season in which Chancellor’s team finished in a three-way tie for the league title, then won a two-round seeding tournament for the top playoff berth. The Lady Eagles defeated Little Cypress-Mauriceville in bidistrict and fell to Manor in the area round. All nine of Barbers Hill’s varsity players are returning, each with at least a season of varsity experience. Morgan Anderson, Jill Coon, Jordan Cobb and cousins Jasmine Carter and Paris Carter are the team’s seniors, with Jenna Silva and Carli Manchaca juniors and Shannon Evans and Shaw the sophomores. Chancellor said he expects to start a lineup of Shaw, Evans, Cobb, Carter and Carter against the Lady Cougars tonight, but added that with the exception of Shaw, Jasmine Carter is his tallest player at 5-9 “and there’s no (talent) drop-off for any of our players.” “The biggest change this year is we don’t have any drop when we sub,” he said. “That’s where we’ve been able to make our runs on people. Because we have more depth, we wear people down.” The blueprint has worked to the tune of a 7-2 record so far this season. Barbers Hill’s only two losses have come to 5A teams Channelview and The Woodlands. In play at the Montgomery tournament last Thursday and Saturday, Barbers Hill beat Willis and New Caney handily and lost to The Woodlands. Shaw has been labeled one of the top sophomore players in the nation after attending an exposure camp in Atlanta in October. Chancellor, the son of former Houston Comets coach and current LSU women’s coach Van Chancellor, won’t disagree. “Kendall worked real hard in the off-season and has gotten a lot stronger and her footwork is a lot better,” the BH coach said. “She’s becoming a real force in the paint. “And she’s become more of a focal point for us. We’re definitely going to try to go inside first and outside second.” But Shaw isn’t alone in putting in hard work. “As a group, all our players came in in tremendous shape, quicker and faster,” Chancellor said. “I think it shows.” Kingwood Park and C.E. King wound up in the three-way tie for the district title with Barbers Hill last year. “Kingwood Park returned everybody and they’re picked to win district this year,” said the Eagles coach. “C.E. King will always be tough and Crosby has a real big post player and some young guards and they’re going to be pretty good. “You can’t count out Dayton. They’re always running and pressing. And Goose Creek Memorial won the Nederland tournament. Our district will be pretty tough. There are no easy games.” In other games scheduled tonight, Sterling’s boys host Spring Woods while the Lady Rangers host Clear Brook. Lee’s boys host Worthing while the GCM boys host Houston Davis. Caney Creek’s boys play at Barbers Hill. Anahuac’s girls are at Deweyville.

 3.

The Coaching at Dayton was awesome this year! The only think that I would have questioned was riding the Soph. QB that deep in the playoffs. He is a good QB ,but didn't seem to have the composure/vision that the starter had. Ploche (Sorry if I killed the spelling in the name)in my opinion should have been taking all of the snaps in this game. On the other hand though the Soph. QB should be battle tested and will be something to watch for the next two years.  It just seemed like Ploche talent was under utilized in such a big game.
Brenham this is in no way discrediting what you did Saturday, you deserve to keep playing. I am posting the this for the coaching nay sayers. Quote from TXHSA Magazine: For the many fans in the stands that disagreed with Coach Stewart about things that did or did not happen, it may be that things went on not everyone knew about. “Tony Hill got hurt in the first quarter, and we think he may have some ACL damage, so we couldn’t put him on defense anymore. That hurt us on the running game because Tony is pretty tough in the middle. Payton Ploch hurt the shoulder of his right arm and couldn’t throw much so we couldn’t put him at quarterback much. We tried massage and heating it up – the back of his shoulder blade. So, those things happen during a ball game and sometimes things just go bad.”
Thanks for the Info. this is the stuff that goes on during the game that we the fans can't see. Like I said it had me scratching my head because I have watched quite a few Bronco games and it didn't seem like anything Stewart would do. After the blocked punt when they brought Payton in for the first score I thought that was a good move. Nothing against the soph. you guys will have a fine QB coming up and for him to even function at that level of the playoffs is just awesome in itself. Congrats to the Bronco's on a fine season and making folks appreciate 19-4A
I can hear the chant's from BH now...fire stewart, Fire Stewart, FIRE Stewart, FIRE STEWART, FIRE STEWART, FIRE STEWART, FIRE STEWART, FIRE STEWART, FIRE STEWART ;D
Calm down little Indian my post was just an observation Stewart can out Coach most of the programs in this area in his sleep. The man has skills ;D

 6. Goodluck Bronco's I'll be there to mix in a little BLUE with all of that PURPLE. Go Bronco's!!
 7. I just read that BH has a 6'8" Player :o that has to be the tallest player in BH history
 8. Sterling usually plays BH pretty good. Should be a tight game BH takes this one at home.
 9. Dayton in a slober nocker ;D
 10. Man this is going to be a good one. I'm behind the Cougs and think they can pull it out!

I will agree that BH just got rid of a great person, but it was and is time for a change. The BH football program has become stagnate and needs some fresh air in order to breathe and believe again. Some seem so shocked that this happened. Do you keep up with sports much? 10 years as a head football coach is a life time and whether it was the right thing to do or not someone took a chance to see if they can make BH better! No one knows if it was the right or wrong thing to do at this point, but we all have our opinions. This is not a game that we are talking about here it is BH! Some are willing to hang out and watch 5 more losing seasons and blame it on the level of athletes that we have at the Hill. It’s common sense that when something seems broke you fix the constant in the equation. I think Price did everything in his power to adjust, move folks around, try more aggressive play calling. Price did want BH to win, but when you start to lose the respect from the community, then the kids you are fighting a losing battle. Coach Price was a victim of circumstance, but on the other hand he benefited from coaching a BH as well. I’m curious what will happen at the next school he coaches at (I assume he will). Personally I think any program will benefit from his hire and will become more successful.
No one said he WAS a board member, the post read something like "for all we know he could be". It's not hard to assume he's known about this for a while, just go back and read some of his posts during the season. The real touch of class was the morning after the PNG loss, he started the thread of "who will be the next Ad / coach at BH. Probably not word for word but you get the jest. We do need to move on, just quit trying to spin what really went on. There are a lot of people still upset about it. You guys are happy you got what you wanted. But remember "you got what you wanted".
My bad I mis read your post. I understand folks being upset, it sucks and there is no was to sugar coat something like this. I didn't know Price personally, but if I did I'm sure I wouldn't have like the decision.

 20.
You are correct BHFan, Coach Price will move on and be a head coach again very soon.  I will state as others have said though, this decision was not about football.  There are a few members on the board who openly despise Coach Price.  Also, Poole has done just about everything in his power to rid BH of anyone with the last  name of Price.  I will not be suprised if Coach Price is more succesfull at his new job than he was at BH.
I have heard the same thing about them not likeing Coach Price. I'm just wondering if the dislike is valid. Why don't they like him?
 21. I think the board will do the right thing and go out and hire the best candidate! Maybe I'm in a dream world (No eye rolls from the readers please)  ;D ;D I'm not one to believe in conspiracy theories and inner circles and that someone is out to get Price and all that believe in him. The writing has been a on the wall for the last couple of years. This is not about this season it is about the last decade. Price has had a great record up until the move to 4A, but if you analyze the success it coincides with 1.) A good group of kids, 2.) Big school in 3A, 3.) One of the weakest districts in 3A. Now just about all three of those factors have turned. To me its one thing to win when you have the numbers then another when you don’t. Schools struggle with this all of the time, but there are coaches out there that can do well in any situation. I can’t help to look at PNG as an example and I’m sure there are hundreds of PNG like situations. I’m also sure that there are hundreds of schools that end up in a worse situations.  To me the board made a decision for BH to try and make BH football a better program. Now it’s up to them to make it happen. Before anyone jumps me just know that I do not like to see anyone lose there job, but knowing this is a coaching job it almost like working construction, at some point the job will be over. Coach Price will move on and be successful and I hope he lands something better than what he had.
 22. Great  season PNG! Be glad that you have an outstanding coach!!
 23. Hey 82 when you find out let me know! Penny is not deserving of being ran through the mud IMHO. Does anyone have any prove or is this the Price "Inner Circle" passing rumors? Penny is an Icon of BH and is a big part of BH tradition. If you have some prove spill it if not shut it :-* I have heard a ton of rumors myself about Mr. Price that border on unethical, but that doesn't mean they are true! I wouldn't run his name in the dirt either because of hear say. Price is gone and a new chapter is coming to BH! It might be good and it might be bad ,but its coming :-\ My Opinion is that BH gave Coach Price 10 great years and he gave BH 10 great years can't we just leave it at that?
 24.
I think BHFAN or GCMlittle daddy should apply for the job since they are such authorities on the subject of football. That hire would guarantee the Hill success I'm sure. ;)
Daddy and I would take state the first year! It really wouldn't be fair to all of the other 4A clubs though :-*
