  1. Accidental outs occur occasionally. i.e. bases loaded, 2 outs, dropped 3rd strike, catcher (with ball) accidently steps on home plate while throwing wildly to 1st. 3rd out occurred as soon as catcher touches home plate whether intentional or not, everything that happens after that is moot. What constitutes an obvious appeal? 3B has already stepped on the base to get the out and has to quickly get the ball to 2B to get R2. What action did 3B have to make show an obvious appeal? IMHO is the play that happen, F5 was not attempting to put R1 out, for she had tured to watch the catch. Her immediate plan was to tag R2 who was attempting to advance to 3rd. I had not received any indication from the player or coach that there was an appeal being made on R1. Did hear coach ask BU for appeal at 2nd, which he granted and called the runner out. Did she leave early? I don't know, she was not my relm of responsibility. What constitutes an obvious appeal? Easy. "Blue, fielder with ball, or coach asking and fielder with ball touching the base or runner in question. This was only done on the play at 2nd. I guess I'm still missing something here. You stated that everyone in the park was aware of it. You want an appeal made on R1 at 3B, meanwhile R2 gets to scamper back into 2B while the "appeal" at 3B gets confirmation from the umpire. That definitely does not give the defense, as you put it, an advantage. But it does give an advantage to the offense who committed the boneheaded play to begin with (no offense to the guilty parties).

  3. Under definitions section: A play on a rule violation on which an umpire may not make a decision until requested by a manager, coach or player. In our stitch we had two runners involved. BU has responsibility on tag up for runner at 2B and PU had the responsibility for tag up for runner at 3B. [R1 at 3rd, R2 at 2nd.] Before the ball was touched, as PU I knew R1 left waaaay early. What R2 did, not my responsibility. Once the ball was caught, F7 threw towards 3rd. R1 was advancing toward HP, R2 toward 3B. F5 catches the ball, while in contact with the base awaiting the runner advancing from 2nd. Seeing R2 retreating to 2B F5 throws the ball to F4, who beat the throw, but is appealed by player, base touched and runner declared out by BU. At this point both teams leave the field, without any appeal being made on the runner from 3rd. Entire team entered the dugout, so R1 out. Just because a ball is thrown to a base means nothing. In my opinion in this stitch, they were attempting to get R2 out on the advance. We cannot assume. If I call her out without an appeal, I have given the defensive an advantage. Are you saying that if R1 realized her mistake and returned to 3rd, after the bag was tagged by the 3B, that you would have called her safe pending a proper appeal? Obviously I'm missing something here, seems pretty straightforward. Why would an APPEAL need to be made on the runner (R1) who left early from 3B? How is that any different than: same situation, line drive caught by 3B, R1 going on contact. 3B steps on 3rd for the DP. No appeal needed. Happens all the time.
  4. NOOOO!! Don't agree with me COOP. My post was intended to be loaded with sarcasm. With more of a southward forecast, that means all those South TX/Houston hillbillies are going to cram our evacuation routes again. You know someone is going to hit the recurve button again as soon as their evacuation begins, as with Rita. >
  5. Whew! That's a relief! Taking more of a Rita ANTICIPATED track.
  6. Just heard the LSU football game got moved from 4PM Sat to 10AM Sat. North bound Contraflow to begin after the game. Wow! That will be one big post-game tailgate party.
  7. This site is pretty cool: [Hidden Content] Gives an animated model that shows the influences for each model.
  8. Speechless for a change? ;D No. He just started his first "."
  9. GT Shockers Gold won 5-4 over GA Blitz. Scored winning run in bottom of 7th with a 2 out rally. Next game at 6:00 Wed vs TX Blaze Gold.
  10. Link to brackets: [Hidden Content] Local teams/players bracket schedule: GT Shockers 9:00AM Tue vs CA Lady Sharks TX Eclipse 4:00PM Tue vs CA Cruisers Good luck teams!!
  11. GT Shockers (McCain) Finished at 2-2. Won first 2 bracket games then put into losers bracket by LA United Gold. Hit 4 homeruns. Kayla Adams 2 and Regan Richard 2
  12. Looks like they ended up with a 9th place finish. The majority of this team has remained intact for several years. The unity showed on the field this week. Great job Rowdie!
  13. So what is the official ASA rule as to which tournament you may play in? Territorial tournaments are open to teams outside your territory after the deadline if you don't max out your tournament? Regional tournaments only allow teams from within your Region, no exceptions? An AZ team came out of an Eastern Territory.
  14. And therein lies the STUPID part East TX! Again I'll say that I got what I wanted out of it, some local games, but I also left feeling guilty for participating in this event. Who knows, if the local teams had not played, maybe the event would have petered out before Beaumont's name was tarnished.
  15. We carted the UIC (not TD) around from complex to complex for him to get things straightened out. Actually his job was made real tough by the schedule that was presented to him by the TD. He was actually having to do the TD's work by rearranging the schedule and do it on the fly so that he could get the umpires in the right place. Yes, there were some umpire scheduling problems, but he was never given a schedule that wasn't screwed up. And yes Livesoftball, I agree, the earlier comments about the "Gate Fee Honor System" was the mother of all STUPID comments! All in all, I got out of the tournament what I wanted, play some games in my own backyard on an open weekend. I just feel for the teams who came in from out of town to play in this.
  16. I am glad you girls can see how all the hard work paid off. One mentally tough group of young ladies. Best of luck the rest of the way!
  17. From the perspective of a coach who had a team playing in it (Note: I will only speak for the 18U side, although I did hear some horror stories from the other age divisions): No complaints about the umpires in my games. The fields were horrible. I don't know who or if someone was going to maintain the fields, but it didn't happen. Sand 3 inches deep, home plate protruding 3 inches above playing fields (only 1 that I saw, and that's 1 too many), no 200' fences, lights not working and no netting protecting the fans from foul balls 75 minute Pool games which made the games end so late on Friday (Saturday AM). Should have been 60 minute pool games, which is what most teams are accustomed to playing, particularly in a Large weekend tournament. Last pool game would have started around 8:30 Friday night instead of 12:30 Sat AM. Our 1st pool opponent (New Mexico Crush) was a no show. Another opponent was quickly reassigned to play us without delay. As TD, I think I would have called the New Mexico Crush and verify that were going to show before I prepared the schedules (I am assuming that they had not paid in advance). TD was not prepared for teams not showing. You better have a game plan and tools ready for no shows. What is an "Honor System" for gate fees? Never saw any signs directing you to where to pay or that it was on an "Honor System". That's about the stupidist thing I've ever heard of. No thought, planning or checking of original brackets. I caught several instances where Losers from the Winners bracket were scheduled to play in the losers bracket before their game ever took place. I informed the TD of the error to save him some major grief later on and was chastised as a being a troublemaker. One team was never placed in the bracket. They ended up having to begin their play in the losers bracket. No tournament official updated the bracket. I updated it when I could. MC Elite Sicotte ('nuff said) By far the poorest/strangest tournament I have ever played in East TX did not share whatever it was he was drinking with the praticipating coaches
  18. GT Shockers beat Alvin No Fear Gold 13-1. Play again around 11AM Saturday.
  19. I wanna meet the ones doing 7 a day in this heat. You umpires are tough. I get worn out and overheated just sittin' on a bucket cussin' yall for 1:10
  20. There are a lot of coaches that have their personal funds tied up into this tournament. That along with trying to pickup players for player shortages means we , the teams, need some answers today. If we are paying $200 to play, $30 for umpires, and $10 at the gate I would expect water in the dugouts, field crews, and happy well qualified umpires. Upsetting the umpires is my job on the field.Just kidding. If this tournament is not going to happen we need to know today so we can get our money back. Have you ever paid close attention what you dump out a water cooler after a tournament or watch what goes on with a water cooler during games (particularly with younger age groups). You've got hands getting ice, wet rags, neck coolers, etc. going in and out of them. I know this and I still drink out of them cause its cold, wet and refreshing at the time. I'll deal with the potential squirts later. As far as the costs for this tournament, I had nothing planned for this weekend anyways and its at home. Beats finding some pickup tournament in Houston that costs about $2000 total travel and accomodations for my team.
  21. Knock yourself out! I'm not trying to filter out what's posted, just trying to have a thread to give the players some recognition without having to read through pages upon pages of other posts, related or unrelated. Makes it a little easier on everyone to see how the players are doing. This thread we're on now would be a great place to expound on their accomplishments. Or, for that matter, each team could start their own thread related to their team, it's accomplishments, schedule, stats, results, etc.
