1. Saw a lot of local kids playing this past weekend with some Houston teams. Saw some during a rainstorm so I couldn't catch the team name: Bekah Flores (Lumberton) - Hit A Way Katelynn Thompson (Legacy) - Houston Power Mollie Randle (Ozen) - Hit A Way Caitlin Dykes (PNG) - Hit A Way Madison Werner (Vidor) - Hit A Way Keira Bridges (Ozen) - ? Jessica Bronstad (Woodville?) - TX Ice? Tiffany Robinson (Lumberton) - ?
2. Don't pick him he is already hurting enough right now. Just checdking on him---his mind seems to be working ok based on his poll posting. Sorry. They only hurt when I change threads.
3. The coach of this new team is going to start selecting who will be on Nederland Varsity? If you are playing the best 9, as was previously stated, and 3 or 4 of those girls are seniors that will never play HS ball again, how again will that benefit Nederland HS for next season? In HS ball the coach can DEMAND when players practice and play. Several of these kids never played select ball because they did not want to make the commitment to the same stringent year round demands. How has that changed? How will animosities affect the HS team next year when players that did not attend practices or tournaments end up as a HS starter? 2nd place in state last year and a successful season this year. Now abandoning that successful philosophy and beginning with an unproven plan?
4. BINGO! Not to mention the after effects it will have on players if this "project" fails. Will area travel coaches ever be willing to take a chance on selecting those underclass players in the future? Do the younger select teams avoid recruiting Ned players? You're right SS, none of these players currently play for our organization but one of them did play for me for quite awhile. So, if one is needed, I do have a legitimate right to have an opinion on this issue simply because I continue to follow my former players in hopes of seeing them succeed. So yes, I have my concerns and they may be unfounded. Although it is just precious to hear a 17 or 18 year old say "We are old enough to know .." when referring to a bunch of other teenagers, as a parent, I would like to see the "plan" before I placed my eggs in that basket. If my daughter were an underclassman in a similar situation, I would tend to believe that the Senior players were looking for an easy summer of ball. There is still enough time to get into some exposure tournaments and even the ASA Gold qualifier in San Antonio, but time is quickly ticking down on those. The IFA Nationals in Beaumont this summer may not be a possiblility if any of these girls were already on an IFA roster that was completed in the fall.
5. Good luck with all that! I posted something recently in which I unintentionally irritated some people concerning giving credit to the players. That is a double edged sword. Players, particularly those who have done well for themselves, in return should give credit to their coaches. Whether you intended it or not, your statements reek of arrogance. Appears to be a slap in the face to every former coach you have ever had. If you feel like your former coaches did not get you up to your highest potential, then why didn't your make the change years ago. Obviously it wasn't immaturity that kept you from making that decision, based on your comments that "we are old enough to know..." If your excuse WAS immaturity, then how can you ask a bunch of other 15-18 year olds to make a decision that may affect their future? I pity the coach that has to move in and coach a group of kids that are "old enough to know..." Although it appears coaching is not needed.
6. That is the biggest mistake I saw from the 6U and 8U coaches in our league. Maybe the other way gets them ready for The Highlands slow pitch league that #13 spoke so highly of. I don't care if it is getting you ready for live pitch or not, it's just easier for anybody to hit it on a line as opposed to an arc.
7. I never really understood having "select" 6U and 8U teams. You are missing a very vital piece of the puzzle at that age.......pitching. On the other hand, pitting your team up against better competition may help the coaches learn what the team needs to work on. Might and probably will get pounded a few times, but if the coaches, parents and players are committed enough, you are bound to improve. I wonder at that age who has the hardest time dealing with getting pounded in a game, the adults or the kids? I think the kids, with their short attention spans, will go back to eating grass, digging holes, etc. long before the parents get back into their routine. The kids are just waiting to do what they are told to do next........enjoy those days!
8. Try this site: [Hidden Content] I saw 3 local tournaments:

5/28 Tomball

6/5 Deer Park

6/12 Spring

10. In your honor, I've temporarily changed my screen name. Don't know what all the fuss was about. I'm married, it's not like I haven't been called that before! Welcome back. Even the bashee welcomes me back. Thanks idiot2 Mc Quite welcome. :-* Now, where were we........

12. Maybe because they are 7-1 instead of 8-0. Or maybe the coach doesn't feel that their 7 district wins were their best efforts. Could also be that her initial goals have been met and its time to raise the bar. Sounds like a pretty good motivator to me to make a good team even better.
13. Think we had a "You make the call" on something similar to this situation before. What I gathered from that thread is that a fielder should be in contact with 3rd base yelling appeal at some point before she receives the throw. Then apply the tag to the runner tagging from 2B. Then let the umpires and coaches figure it out.
14. But remember that BEER was illegal in his day!
15. Didn't like the idea at first. Looking at his stats, he only has 3 seasons in the .260's, the other 6 other years below .250 and was previously mentioned, strikes out close to 200 times a season. However, he consistantly drives in and scores 100+ runs. Can the Astros offer him better protection around him in the batting order than the Reds to give him a chance to see better pitches? I don't think the quality starting pitching is out there to acquire to help them much. Gave away most of their young talent for Tejada last year. Time to start growing their own pitching as they had done so well in the past.
16. ...But they can help you hit it harder and further! I'd vote NO to A-Rod in the HOF, but of course you are letting in several who just didn't get caught. Yes he was man enough to admit it, but only now after he was busted. Of course he lied in his interview with Couric when she asked him if he was a user, but if he had told the truth, he would have been a cheat and STUPID! Also, do we asterik Babe Ruth? He partook illegal substances many times, although not necessarily performance ehhancers. He could hit a curve ball with a major hangover.

18. Strictly a business decision ($) on the new management. They had a good product for sell and found a buyer. The parents/players must decide if the character and ethics of a coach are acceptable to them. FYI, TX Peppers Gold are not a part (and haven't been a part for a long time) of the TX Peppers organization. If you want to irritate them, congratulate members of the TX Peppers organization on their selection of coach for their Gold team. I'm sure MC Elite Gold is glad that there is no longer an MC Elite (Sicotte).
19. and I have a well ventilated beach front home on Bolivar Peninsula to sell you with a sub-prime mortgage.
20. From the Peppers Gold web site: Texas Peppers News New Era with Peppers Gold The Texas Peppers Gold are now managed by Glenn Sicotte. We want to wish Glenn and his coaches all the best. After many years of success in helping so many girls achieve their dream of playing collegiate softball, the founder of the original Peppers Gold, Jimmy Gaskins, has chosen to retire. Thank you goes out to all the supporters of Peppers Gold over the years. It's going to be a tough act to follow, but we feel Coach Sicotte is up for the challenge Even though Jimmy is no longer affiliated with Texas Peppers Gold, he asks that everyone in the world of JO Girls Fastpitch to welcome Glenn Sicotte and his coaching staff. Now...go out there and carry on the Peppers Gold tradition!
21. Just now getting first significant rain and wind here in Beaumont. Just saw a flash and heard the first transformer blow.
22. The 6 models shown on Weather Underground landfalls are now all north of Corpus with 3 of them north of Port Lavaca.
23. Provided she had not yet touched home, she could return to 3rd and her leaving early could no longer be appealed. I didn't mean to imply that the F5 had to "announce" the appeal, just that it is obvious to the umpire. This situation involves DAMan's judgement that the throw to 3rd was not made to appeal R1 leaving early. I hate to throw the J word out there, but it really is as simple as that. Interpretation of the rule book is not an issue here. Nor is the size of the defensive coaches problem. That doesn't seem right. Not disagreeing in the context of the appeal, just doesn't seem "right" to the defense. An out is an out, at least I thought it was. I never knew intent was a consideration. By that definition: runners at 1st and 2nd, batter hits looping liner over pitcher's head, SS runs over and catches the ball as she steps on second base. Throws to first for the tag of runner going back to first. Lead runner returns to second and is safe because there was not yet a specific appeal on her and the SS was not intending to force her out when she "inadvertently" touched the bag? It appears that is the case. Fielder must show "intent" to make the out. Umpire must judge what is going on inside the fielders head as to whether or not they knew by touching the base that the runner left early. Arguing with 2 umpires, I think I'm about to get tossed off this thread! ;D
24. They all appear a little more north. All 2:00 models I've seen are well north of Brownsville.
25. Had R1 returned to 3rd after the 3B had thrown the ball to 2nd would R1 still have been considered safe? Or would the defensive team have the opportunity to appeal that the base had been tagged, albeit unintentionally and/or without an announced appeal, before R1 returned and therefore R1 would be considered out? I don't think I would be alone in saying that the defensive coach would/should have a HUGE problem if an out on R1 was not awarded somewhere in the mix.
