  1. I have seen two events that I can recall both when I played for Jasper between 74' and 75' number 1. we couldnt find a kicker for the kick off to save our lives, but we had one person Oscar who was doing real well in practice so he won the job....It was the opening kickoff of the game (cant remember who we were playing) but Oscar tee's the ball up breaks the huddle and procedes to kick the living daylight out of the ball only to miss it on the up swing of his foot but catch it on the downswing with the back of his foot. the ball went several yards backward and I remember the the stadium announcer saying "onside kick attempt by Jasper" from that day the kicker was known as "onside Oscar" number 2. I was playing on the kickoff recieving team and fielded a short kick. Well I got hit so hard that my helment twisted and my nose was sticking out of my ear hole. Coach Watkins (when the coaches were the medical staff also) come up and asks me how many fingers he was holding up. of couse I couldnt see any fingers due to the fact that my nose was now sticking out of my ear hole....I ended up going to the hosptal were they had to cut the helment off

  6. COOP COOP COOP Looks is something you loose when you get old. Newton WILL make a run in 2A
  7. Just wanted to say the Eagles will give anybody a run for their money. Friday was the first game for the Newton Eagles and there were some glitches but the Eagles are a "lunch Pail" working team. By lunch pail , Its a hard working no frills type of team. Newton is going to run at you , nothing to fancey, but the stop us if you can mentality. I will say Crockett has a good looking team. There were some pretty stout younge men across the line from Newton. Crocketts QB #2 Dustin Wyble will give teams a fit. He is a very agile and quick QB with a decent throwing arm. Their HB #4 willie Carter and WR # 7 were both with speed. IMOP I beleive the tell of the tape was at half time when the coaches made the ajustments to Crocketts running game. With all the experiance of the Coaches they picked the right formula to stop Crocketts running offence. Newton looked great with the quick pitches to #2 Justin McLemore and #3 Trevion Ethridge and with the double threat of Darrell Jenkins #7 QB Newtons offence started really clicking . Hats off to the offence line for the holes produced during the game. A special hats of to the WR's who held their blocks on the CB to make a short run into a long gain. Defence was the name of the game the second half.....there were some RIDDEL prints from Newton on some Crocketts chests. The Defence came out with some extra pep in their step. All you saw the second half was swarming purple knocking anything in white on the ground. special teams with kicker #21 James Burch played great, with one block extra point try it was clearly made up with great kick offs and punts. Overall Newton will go far in the playoffs, with some tough teams yet to play in the non-district : Jasper, Silsbee, Carthage you can bet the Eagles will be on top of the heap at playoff time and remember ALERT SHAMELESS ADVERTISMENT FOLLOWS: if you cant go to the game listen right here on SETXsports.com for all your Newton Eagle Football every friday pre-game show starting at 7:00
  8. thats what I was told by a school admistator that Jasper will not have a JV team per say...they will all be freshmen, and they might not have that when coach lauve moves more freshmen and sophmores up to varsity
  9. ETBU is right why all the petty bickering, man it is getting old to go on any forum and see WO-S did this or BH did this or a WO-S fan said this or a BH fans said this. Give it a break or take it elsewhere.
  10. was talking with one of the admin people of Jasper indicated that this may be the last week that Jasper could have a under Varsity team due to alot of the freshmen and sophamores moving up to varsity. didnt realize that against Livingston Jasper dressed out 25 players
  11. Man Jody are you nuts , crazy, or just plain dont know nothing about football. get a life and dont bother coming to the Jasper game to get ya'lls butts whooped......Ok I always wanted to be rude crude and socially un-acceptable. Just messen Jody,,,it will be a 10 victory but with Jasper on the winning end

  13. I also did graduate in the Ummmm 70's but from Jasper and I do remember how those two towns would go all out 100 percent for football. Newton will go a long way in the playoffs and just could bring another title to the Piney Woods of East Texas
