  1. Out of curiosity, I am wondering what good it will do to stop sports.I guess they can still go to classes and be stuffed into rooms with 20 other people but they can't go outside into the open air and play games? It seems like if it is so bad that a baseball game is dangerous, then school should be out of the question. I am not a doctor but it seems like I would rather pitch a ball to you and see if you can hit it and run the bases and take my chances there rather than sit two feet away from you for a couple of hours in a closed room. If it gets so bad that they need to shut down schools then do it. Cancelling games while 98% of students are still in class is ridiculous.
  2. Yep. Each hunting license in those counties can kill one mature buck and one spike. Anything else is a lease restriction. It seems like leases that allowed two mature deer per gun/membership would still allow such but it would have to be from another family member's tag. It is the same number of deer so I don't see where it hurts the "per gun" rule. Each lease will have to sort that out.
  3. Here is part of my opinion on deer hunting. When you shoot a deer, you are either hunting for horns or hunting for meat. Does definitely need to be killed and they are overpopulating a lot of areas, especially in east Texas. If someone is dropping the hammer simply for meat, then kill does. If you are hunting for horns, why would you kill a deer with tiny horns? Certainly people aren't going to mount the head of a buck with a small rack. I hunt on a 970-ish acre lease in east Texas. I think our members have killed something like 65 does on that small lease in the last four years. We have seem more and killed bigger bucks than we have ever seen on this lease since we have been managing it more closely by letting the bucks grow and taking out all of the does. We are sure getting a lot of meat without having to kill baby bucks. So kill does if you want meat (or even if you don't want meat-give it away) and let the bucks grow up. Now let the baby killers start flaming me. ;D
  4. Maybe. It is going to be 10 people in five boats or is it going to be 10 posters with some bringing friends/relatives and maybe have 8 boats? I think you can have a decent tournament that is really just for fun with a few boats. A maximum of five (especially with a no show bringing it to four) may be a different issue. I have fished a tournament with seven boats and it was fun and still competitive.
  5. X2 It may come to that but for now, it seems to be overreaction. Maybe they are giving an out to schools that voluntarily don't compete in order to keep them from forfeiting.
  6. I don't officially know the answer but with LCM being 2-0 against PNG, it would seem that LCM would have to be 2nd..... assuming both win their last games which is very likely.
  7. No kidding. When someone predicts the same thing year after year and it finally happens (if ever), then the person will say, "See, I told you so". ;D
  8. I think it should have been done 25 years ago. It is ashame that it needed to be done by law but just looking at the east Texas deer herd explains why it was needed. Killing half year old and one and a half year old deer is nonsense but the standard on many of the area leases. If someone wants meat, kill a couple of does or save the money from the lease dues and buy a few ribeyes.
  9. Bad reputation? ??? I personally think this was no where near an item that would need to be locked. For a moderator to make that statement makes me lose respect for that position I did not say that there was currently a bad reputation. I just took exception to the threat to lock this without due cause. Okay, now I understand. Next time we think about locking a thread, we will run it by you to see if it fits under "due cause". Thanks. ;D
  10. Makes me wish I had some to test it out. ;D
  11. From pure athletic ability, probably Brad Sullivan. The was fast, could run with moves and had a very good arm. He was simply an awesome high school quarterback. From a speed standpoint (especially for a quarterback), if you ever let Sullivan have an open lane, he was gone. There were very few people that could catch him in the open. I don't think he had the size to move on to a major college but for high school he was tops. Dustin Hood had about the best passing arm that I have seen in the last twenty years in Nederland. He didn't have the run ability but from a drop back passer, he was almost unbeatable and had huge numbers to back it up. Under the current spread type offenses I think Sullivan would be great with his more complete package of speed, running ability and passing ability. Both were just very good athletes and were equally adept at baseball. Possibly Nederland's best ever quarterbacks got Div I scholarships...but for baseball.
  12. From recent forum history, I think one of the softball threads might be appropriate. ;D
  13. I have no clue what happened so I won't comment on the incident but will about laws and situations. You say there was no fight but I don't see where that matters. The officer has the right to stop and detain someone involved in a disturbance or that may have been involved in a fight. With that right the officer can investigate what happened. Maybe nothing happened but that does not stop a police officer from lawfully investigating it assuming that he had enough information that a fight or other crime "may" have been committed or in other words, reasonable suspicion. When an officer has the right of detention, it is not voluntary. In fact, walking away from an officer that has attempted to lawfully detain you can be the criminal offense of Evading Detention if the person is trying to keep the officer from stopping him. The officer can then lawfully use force if necessary. An officer grabbing onto a person that is walking from a lawful detention is probably going to be ruled as justified force. The officer may have been rude or maybe the officer could have had more tact but that doesn't make what the officer did improper or illegal (assuming that is what happened). If an officer attempts a lawful detention by grabbing a person, that gives no right for the person to strike the officer. A person might not like being grabbed but the person should not be walking away "if" the officer told the person to stop or tried to detain him. Did any of that happen? I have no idea. Just commenting on some aspects of the laws and what officers can lawfully do. When I see people commenting that the officer "had no right", I am wondering if they know what they are talking about.
  14. ... and you're hunting with it?
  15. Then Gabe woke up and it was time to get ready for work.
  16. .... and Sabine Pass is not the same as the Sabine Coast Guard station and it is not the same as the Pleasure Island causeway and it is not the same as Pleasure Island Marina........ They usually put high tide for the coast but you can look and see the tides for farther inland. The farther you go away from the coast, the longer the lag time. If high tide is 1:30PM at the Sabine Pass jetties (probably what you see in the paper) then it might be 3:30PM at the Pleasure Island Marina. Simply looking at the Sabine Pass tides won't give you the entire picture.
  17. I voted either but I think I have vacation already set up on May 30.
  18. I hope that you didn't mind the modification to the poll to add "either". Hopefully a few people can do either weekend. If forced to choose a date when actually they are available on both, it might skew the real results and look like several people choose one date when they are really good for either.
  19. I would prefer saltwater simply due to travel time. Bass fishing is fun though and I like the ambiance of the lakes.
  20. I think as long as one person in the boat is a member of sextsports.com, it is good to go.
  21. In about 4 months I have to start practicing seriously again for archery season for whitetails.
  22. I think that as part of the national stimulus plan (since we have already paid the taxes or will be taxed for it in the future), we need to update all school stadiums in the area. No need to add an additional burden on local taxpayers for money that we have already sent in or will be taxed for in the future. Why spend millions on a study to see what the mating prospects are for the Gypsy Moth when it could go to something that will benefit the local communities?
  23. That must be nice. You are a cop. You find dope. Then you turn it over to another agency to file the charges and write the report. I need to figure out how to do that. ???
